What is the average wage in Ireland?

I am just curious to know what is the average wage in Ireland? I read before in a newspaper (cant remember the name) that most workers here earn under 18,000 euros a year. I earn 22,000 and I struggle on this so I dont know how anyone can survive on 18,000 a year unless they are lucky enough to have a partner on a better wage or very generous relatives.

There must be some serious money made at top levels to skew this, because most people are on less than 25k a year.

Huge disparity between public wage and private wage levels

with irish public wages being on avaerage well in excess to anything in the private sector

there are of course some exceptions within this but as a rule public sector wages are higher....and have higher rates of pension benefits etc

In a specific industry? Doubt if it's everyone. I'd say the figure you quote would not be far off

While the vast majority of the population are on less than 25k the greedy pigs are slurping more than their fair share from the trough. 100k plus

This huge divide of rich and poor could leave the average figure well around the 40 mark. That doesn't make it the average salary though for the majority in this country though.

People are greedy pigs because they earn a good salary now? It couldn't be because they went to college, worked hard, put in long hours and are valued by their employers?

The median wage in Ireland is between US$20,000 and US$25,000. This is takes purchasing power parity into account so I'm not sure how you translate this into Euro.

Average weekly earnings = 688 pw

Average hourly earnings = 22 ph

That means average yearly earnings of 35,776.

Note that earnings data is not the same as household income data.

Household income include all forms of income, not just earned income, and of course many households have several earners.

Household income data is provided by the HBS and SILC surveys.

HBS 2009/10 household income data:

Average gross income, incl social transfers = 1027 pw

Tax = 141 pw (=14%, low tax economy)

Average disp income = 886 pw

NB: all figures averaged across all households, not per person.

I don't know anyone who makes less than 25k. The only time that occurred briefly to me or anyone I know was when we graduated and got crappy starter salaries, but within about 6 months we were all > 25k. These are typical wages in lreland.

Nobody makes less than 25k unless they are only 6 months in the job or it's sweeping the streets.

I know couples on 150k.

Many of my colleagues are on 75k.

None of my friends are on 25k, unless starting out in jobs.

The average hourly earnings in Ireland are 22 per hour.

Because people with a degree don't understand what average means; and that to get a €35k average one guy on €75k must be balanced by a bunch of €25k folks.
