Update the JTAG to 14719 so that your Live console and JTAG are the same version :)
Ok I would have done that but freeboot didn't have an option/folder for 14719 I was looking for it when doing it. Will have a look on Google for a newer version.
Does this mean now when a new dash comes out ill have to update to avoid this in future?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,584 ✭✭✭TouchingVirus

I would imagine so. Avatar and system information is stored on the Hard Drive. You're moving from 14719 on live kernel to 14717 on the JTAG while trying to use the same Avatar/System files; it's a recipe for disaster. If swapping drives, make sure to keep them the same version.

Anyone know when the next dash is due out? I'm thinking about updating mine to 14717 tonight, which usually means the new one will land tomorrow

I would imagine August at the very earliest, but probably September/October before Blops 2 :)

I would say the new dashboard would coincide with the release of the Demon, the current dashboard is 14719 btw ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭Myrddin

Just finished this minute doing 14719 anyway, cheers lads. xebuild once again providing nothing but brilliance.

Dashlaunch curiously has gone back in revision numbers, I done my last dash with 2.33 & now for 14719 you need a revised version of 2.31

Anyway, all is done. Flashed the new updflash, installed the avatar update, reinstalled dashlaunch & boom - FSD loads up right where it should. Quick & painless :)

Sorry to drag up an old topic.
tried to update my jtag to 15574.
    using xbuild GUI
    I selected my orgional nand,
    build type was "freeboot(jtag)
    Jasper 512mb (I think I should have selected 16mb)
    put my cd key in
kernal version was set to 15574
Xell-reloaded selected(I think this was wrong)
and I tried to select "current/retail SMC" it gave me an error to select another one, so I went with "normal SMC hack"

    updated with the updflash.bin
power cycled it, turned on via eject drive. so i think I have fubared Xelleous.
will I have to connect it to my nand reader to put xellous back on

Sounds like a wrong switch was used somewhere in the building of the image. That happened me before with one of those GUI based things, never again. I've used the manual command line method ever since & never had a single issue.

I had to connect a nand reader to mine to flash the old image back on yeah.

If you can't boot Xellous it's back to the nand reader for you.

I have to admit to using jRunner for the last while to manage updates, quite the nifty program :D

yea I think I will see if there is still a cmd version of the most current xebuild, never had any luck with the gui's either..

Oh it's a lot more than that. It'll build your image, flash your coolrunner, read and write your nand, allow you download new/old dashboards without Xbins - It's pretty much the only app I use anymore :)

Lenny - you'll be using a combination of nandpro 2.0b and nandpro 2.0d in addition to the old working dash you have for this job. Hook up the console power and then connect the reader to your USB port.

Copy the 12625 bin file to the nandpro 2.0b folder, call it nand.bin. Copy the appropriate Xellous version for your wiring (regular or AUD_CLAMP) and call it free60.bin. Open up a command prompt window, go to the 2.0b folder and do the following:
    nandpro nand.bin: -r16 kv.bin 1 1
    nandpro free60.bin: -w16 kv.bin 1 1

Copy free60.bin to the 2.0d folder and use that to write to your nand.
    nandpro usb: -w2 free60.bin 0

Plug out the power, leave for 30 seconds, hook up the AV & power cable and power on via eject. You should have Xell. Then you can use the command line tool or jRunner to build a new image. If that fails, just write the 12625 dash file you have to get up and running again and go from there :)

It'll do both and act as a CPU key store, and if you hook your console up to it it'll connect to your console after you boot Xell and read your CPU key itself. Magic I tells ya, magic!

Well that might be dead handy, as I recently suffered a hdd failure & lost every single thing I had pertaining to my two jtags. Right now I've no record of cpu keys, previous verified builds, nothing :(

Duuude :( Dropbox in future man, it's the only place for that stuff :) If your two JTAGs still work all you need is the config and KV and you can build an image from any other dump :)

Yep both are working perfectly, so I presume all I need to do from both is take nand dumps, extract the kv, & config and I'm ok?

hey, thanks for the info TV. I've been pulling out my hair for ages wondering what i was doing wrong & trying other methods.. and I had the hdmi cable plugged in. the ultimate wreck the head.

the part that confuses me on the xbuild gui is which option to select "xell" "xellous" "xell-reloaded"
I can send you over my free60.bin from the cd/cd key
and the smc hack(unsure which one to select, that you used?)aud_clamp is it?
maybe it'd be just easier if you compile a 15574 update for me?

You'll be wanting Xellous or Xell-Reloaded. You'll never learn if I just do it for you but I can give you the free60.bin file to make things easier :)

    Cheers TV,

Dropbox account opened & in use. Will take nand dumps from both consoles over the weekend.

What do I do from there, just use something like 360FlashTool to extract the KV & config? From there I'm safe enough. I'll drop box those bad boys too.

Scary having a jtag there when all your history & builds for it are lost :(

OK, just re read the start of this topic again, you used thbe aux clamp method.
so used the xebuild gui. it was the smc selection that I had selected what was wrong. seem to have just updated to 15574 there. the avatars are working ok too, no need to fix that.
the xbox startup guide is a wreck the head!
lucky I have the spi reader too. its come in handy enough times!
thanks so much for typing up the commands TV. I'm gonna save them to a notepad for future referance

If you don't want to work with the command line, you should get jrunner and keep your current nand and cpukey safe, then when a new dashboard rolls out just open the dump and put in the CPU key select JTAG choose dashboard then create image.

Copy updflash.bin to USB stick connect to Xbox and power on with eject to boot to xellous Xbox will update and voila you'll be on the latest dashboard it's much safe than playing around with commands.

For every console I save the following:

    1) First 16MB of the nand
    2) The KV.bin
    3) The working free60.bin (Xell/Xellous/Xell-Reloaded)
    4) The working freeBOOT version from the time I do the console
    5) A text file with motherboard type, name/username, console number, CPU Key and DVD OSIG/key

Rar it up and only comes to be 28MB per console and upload it onto dropbox, job done.

What I'd do for your two JTAGs is just save the working nand using Flash360 twice and compare them to ensure they're the same. Save the CPU Key/DVD OSIG and Key in a text file - zip/rar that file with the nand backup and keep them safe on Dropbox for each console.

If needed you can extract the KV, the config and the first fifty blocks (0-0x4F) which is Xell for each from the full nand dump :)

Done, both consoles fully backed up & dropboxed. I went as far as to dropbox the launch.ini's {Dashlaunch} for both also.

16197 is the latest dash and is available on J-Runner. You need an xbox live Gold account to use it, and that means you've to connect to live which brings with it the inevitable console ban since you're a filthy homebrewer :)

What options are there for old school cmd line users? Just wait until the dash files are released I guess! Not interested in IE, have the Slim I got from you which is on XBL Gold...just mentioned IE to differentiate the dash version as I didn't know the code :o

Is a Jasper 512 a Big Block? What is the difference between BB & SB in Jaspers?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭Myrddin

Build Instructions (Updated for latest xeBuild v1.05):

For simplicity you need the following:

    1) Your CPU Key
    2) A copy of your nand (original or FreeBOOT) and SMC
    3) Dashboard Data (Google for "xxxxx Dashboard data" where XXXXX is the version number e.g. 12611, 13599, 14699, 16197
    4) xeBuild (xbins -> /XBOX 360/development/xeBuild/)

    Getting ready
Download xeBuild and extract it to a folder - say C:\xeBuild

Open your dashboard data zip file and extract the contents to C:\xeBuild\<version_number> e.g. for 16197.zip, extract the contents to C:\xeBuild\16197. The folder should already exist in C:\xeBuild anyway.

Edit C:\xeBuild\1blkey.txt. On the first line is a dummy key - replace it with DD88AD0C9ED669E7B56794FB68563EFA

Edit C:\xeBuild\mydata\options.ini. Scroll down until you see where the cpukey goes, paste it in there. You can also add the 1bl key to this file, it goes directly over the cpu key line. Both are filled with dummy codes, so just overwrite them with the 1bl key as provided, & your consoles cpu key. Close the text file then, saving any changes.

    Extracting KV and SMC_CONFIG.bin
Open up 360 Flash Tool v0.97 and click Settings->Options. Tick the box that says "Extract ibuild compatible files". Then open your nand and click extract on the bottom. Tick the box for 'config blocks' and 'Keyvault' and click OK. Choose a folder for these files. When extraction is done, go to that folder and there'll be a folder called freeBOOT, click into it, then into data and you will find two files - kv.bin and smc_config.bin. Copy these two files to C:\xeBuild\mydata.

Picking the right SMC (not for Xenon consoles)
This step is very important if your console is not a xenon - flashing the wrong SMC can end your JTAG If the nand file you used to extract the KV.bin and SMC_CONFIG.bin files in the previous step was taken from your previous dashboard updflash.bin, or was taken from a dump you took off your currently working JTAG, then use the same steps above but check the box labelled SMC. You'll find an SMC.bin in the same place you found KV/SMC_CONFIG.bin.

If you're using your original nand (not recommended unless you know your wiring scheme), then you will need to pick an SMC for the JTAG wiring in use. You can find SMC files for the AUD_CLAMP method of wiring (the preferred choice) in this file. Remember: Using the wrong SMC file can b0rk your JTAG, to play it super safe, take a dump of your nand using Flash360, and extract the SMC from that using 360 Flash Tool

    Copy smc.bin to C:\xeBuild\mydata

    Setup xebuild

Place an existing nand dump into the 'mydata' folder of xeBuild. This will allow xeBuild to determine various system variables. You need to rename the dump file to 'nanddump.bin' without the quotes.

    Build freeBOOT
Open a command prompt, go to C:\xeBuild and type the following

    Code:
    xebuild -t <image type> -c <model> -d mydata -f <dashboard> updflash.bin
<image> is either glitch, jtag or retail
<model> is either xenon, falcon, zephyr, jaspersb, jasper256, jasper512 etc etc
<mydata> is where your per-console files are, cpukey.txt etc
<dashboard> is the name of the folder holding the dashboard files (e.g. 16197)

xeBuild will build freeBOOT as updflash.bin - copy it to USB, boot to Xellous and flash it.

    Post-Install

Download the full system update - here
Check the version number in the filename matches your newly installed dashbaord version.
Extract to a USB stick (blank)
    Insert USB stick into console
Power console on, accept the update, the console will apply and then reboot.

    Links
Previous post detailing (with pictures) the steps above, with minor differences because that was dashboard 12625
Patched SMC files (AUD_CLAMP Wiring) for non-Xenon consoles

Quoted & updated slightly to conform to newest instructions.

Ah! I always forget there was a 16MB Jasper!

Quick one while your there, using the above guide, xebuild is only spitting out a 64MB file for my Jasper, while the nanddump.bin I'm using is 528MB...why is that :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,584 ✭✭✭TouchingVirus

Everything after 0xFFF (64MB) is user-memory space, has no OS files at all. If it spat out a 512MB file it would wipe your internal memory every time you went to upgrade your dash :)
