Agree with you there but I find Gervinho's end product to be worse than Walcott's. Gerv has a habit of just putting his head down and running the ball out of play at least Theo usually gets his crosses away (even if they're not the best crosses a lot of the time).

yeah, he always goes for the byline & tries a cutback, he get a corner an odd time though :pac:

Last thing I'll say on the CB situation, IMO Koscielny and Mertesacker are our best pairing but with Vermaelen now captain he's gonna be started when fit. Don't understand the decision myself. :pac:

He's a proper leader. Takes responsibilty and is hungry for the club to succeed. We need someone like him on the pitch.

We've been crying for someone like Vermaelen on the pitch for many a year now.
When he makes a challenge, even if it looks like he could get seriously injured, he never once pulls out.
    Tough, tough cookie.

Yeah i'd rather see Cazorla stay in the middle. Thought Oxlade-Chamberlain did fine yesterday, would rather see him starting ahead of Gervinho or Walcott.

Good article on Zonal Marking re our set-up yesterday. He referred to it as a Dortmund style 4-2-3-1 in possession and 4-4-1-1 without the ball, with Cazorla staying up close to Giroud to initiate a counter if the chance arose, as it did for Poldi's opener.

If Jack does come back in and gets the middle slot in the 4-2-3-1 possession formation, I could see Santi moving right but remaining the man who stays uptop in the 4-4-1-1 defensive system, as Jack is a much better tackler than the little Spaniard. Or would that be too hard to implement... hard to know, but these are nice problems to have worrying Le Boss in fairness.

just to say, I know we were fúcking shíte yesterday, but that was as good a midfield performance as I've seen against Liverpool in quite a while.

Diaby and Arteta were ridiculously good, and Cazorla was effortlessly making things happen.

the organisation and work ethic seems like night and day compared to previous seasons; especially at set pieces. it really was like a wall, and we were restricted to speculative efforts.

it's kind of sad that with a world class striker, you'd most definitely have a great shout for the title this year. Giroud has a lot to live up to, but if he can get even 15 goals and a few assists, i think there's enough in Podolski and the rest of the midfield to supplement it.

Cazorla is a dream. you've found your Cesc replacement, no question.

but it is that defence which could get you to towards a shot at the title. you'd have lost to a stupid Stoke or Sunderland goal in the previous weeks and be on 3 points right now if it wasn't for that solidity.

who'd have thought all of that in the midst of the VP debacle?

    Yeah.

    Damn RVP anyway.

That's his best attribute alright. That impact on the pitchside looked sore as hell yesterday, but he got up, dusted himself down and kept plugging away for the team. What a battler!

It's easy to scissor tackle someones legs on the sideline, far harder to get up and get on with it.;)

If we get through this month with say only one loss and a couple of wins and still look defensively sound
Can we mount a challenge or am I running with myself

I just not that impressed with utd there midfield is shocking and city seems to be conceding easy too

We can certainly challenge, wouldn't be too hopefull of winning it though.

Most realistic goal this season is to get much closer to 1st than we finished last season points-wise and hopefully try and nab one of the 3 cups we're in with the domestic ones being the most likely, obviously.

To win the new U/21 league and a good run in the Next Gen Series would be great for the younger generation too, there's some big talents in the current flock with a good few of them looking like they could have a long-term future at the club

This is my view too. Unless Giroud gets us 30+ goals we wont be winning it but should be closer than last year.

Next summer will be vital. If we can keep the squad together, lose the excess and replace them so we're not short on numbers, I'd be much more confidant next season.

You never can tell, some players just cant stop when they hit the right form, I just have the feeling he will turn out very good.

That's a rather exclusive club to get 30+ goals.:)
But the great thing this season, we won't be reliant on one man to get the majority of goals.
I do wish Giroud could've gotten off the mark by now, as he is the main striker, but that's not what's important, what's important is he settles down and gets involved a bit more, and the midfield hopefully will look for him a bit more.

If he had finished off the Diaby through ball yesterday it would have been an awesome goal. I think Southampton is ideal for him to get off the mark. Team should be full of confidence going into that game and he seems like a confident fella himself so I don't think it will be long before we see him banging a few in. If he keeps trying they will come.

I think talk of a league title is far to optimistic. Very good midfield but I think you'll struggle with scoring. Good game against us on yesterday but you didnt create many chances, can't even think of any when it was 0-0 and I think that will be your downfall.

Most then welcome to argue otherwise instead of throwing the toys out of the pram.

Giroud missed 2 sitters, Gibbs nearly scored, the 2 goals themselves and of course that's only our strike forces 3rd game together, away from home at Anfield. I'm not to worried about creating chances tbh, I don't think Chamberlain will be that ineffective going forward normally either. Whether or not we take those chances is a bigger question.

Beating an open team like Liverpool is different to winning a lot of the 20+ matches a season we'll have against teams who only want to defend, as seen in the first two matches.

Yea scoring those chances would be more accurate probably. For the first goal yesterday we only had two players in our own half when we gave it away, I just can't see most teams in the league leaving them that exposed against you. At emirates a lot of teams will barely struggle to have two players in the other half. As they say to win the league you have to beat the smaller teams, just not sure Arsenal have the fire power to consistently do that.

Way too early to be making such pronouncements. You could already see in the game against Liverpool that the new signings were becoming more aware of each other.

On paper at least there is plenty of goals in the side. If you go down through the sides individual goal scoring records Cazorla, Walcott, Gervinho should be able to provide 20 between them at least. If Podolski and Giroud can find their form for Arsenal they should be getting near 20 each. Arteta, Diaby, Vermaelen and Santos should be able to chip in a few too... it all depends on them been givin the time to click. If the new signings can find their form there's a more goals in the side than last season.
