We are discussing Ryan. A man who would lie about his marathon time, it was him that came to that. Ryan said he ran a sub 3 hour. That's not fisherman's tall stories, that speaks to his ethics.

"Could you trust a man who would lie about his marathon time 22 years ago? I'm Barack Obama and I approve of this message"

    LOL

Seriously though, your focus on this is laughable.

Ryan's claim to have run a marathon in less than three hours is at least more plausible than the following claim:

"There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Alabama, because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born. So don't tell me I don't have a claim on Selma, Alabama. Don't tell me I’m not coming home to Selma, Alabama." - Barack Obama

He claimed that he was conceived because of the trouble in Selma in 1964. The only problem is he was born in 1961!

Just clicked on this thread and people are discussing Paul Ryans marathon times and whether he lied about it or something, jesus wept, is this what it has come to....

While it's not major, per se, that a candidate for the 2nd most powerful office in the country can, casually and without blinking, just toss out an utterly unbelievable and totally unnecessary lie is something I'd like to be aware of.

Lying like that is on a pathological level. He didn't have to lie, but he did anyway.

    Speaks to his character.

In that case you must also be opposed to Obama.

Or do you need to see a list of his lies?

Wow. Your powers of observation must be extraordinary.

I'm opposed to Obama as well, genius.

No you didn't fix any post.

His Uncle and the Uncle's wife were over in 2010 and came to Kilkenny, they found the townsland where Paul Ryan's great great grandfather came from, cloghasty near Graignamanagh.
Paul Ryan’s ancestral roots have been traced back to James Ryan and Catherine Shea, who were married in the parish of Graignamanagh.

Like I said, speaks to his character. Pathological. Why the hell would you lie about something like this when you have just been selected VP and are the party's "truth-teller"? Issue of why discussed here

Laughable? There used to be an expression about the being type of men that would cheat at golf. Ryan has just shown himself to be a macho bull****ter. "Yeah, I go to the gym and benchpress a million pounds..."

Except Ryan claim is that he did 3hrs50 when he did 4.01 - this quote from Obama even has snopes.com unsure of the varacity of that comment.

    Finally.

The amount of weaseling and acceptance of (let say) mistruths and woulda coulda in those articles is telling. Thank you for that. Two blogs, and an 'Investors' journal. Some hard hitting journalism huh?

Liberal Media Agenda, the bogeyman under the bed. Just like "International Communism"...

My great great grandfather came from the East End of London - don't mean I have a Cockney connection. I have traced my family back to Yorkshire in the 16th century - doesn't mean I have a Yorkshire connection. I did actually live in London's East End for 6 years and Yorkshire for 4 years - still doesn't mean I have a family connection with these places. Has Paul Ryan ever set foot in Ireland given he is so quick to mention his connection in speeches?

Ah, tribalism. Alive and well. We get to 'claim' him now is that it. Biden is also of Irish descent, so what?

The point I was making is that Ryan is exactly the type of spoofer you would see on the Apprentice claiming to run marathons in less than 3 hours and go for pints with Ronan O'Gara.

Wait... he did claim to run marathons in less than 3 hours. Spoofer.

Oh come on dude, get a grip, you are clutching at straws here into making this an issue, there are really more important things to be discussing.

And for the record, EVERYONE lies, 100% guaranteed that every president and vice president has lied and exaggerated.
To call him pathological is a bit extreme, that would lump all politicians into the same box.

Would be better to concentrate on all the non truths coming from the republican convention this week, a seriously different level of reality down there.

This a thread about Ryan. Plenty of other threads with "important' things in them.

Sure. Nixon famously, and Clinton. But when backed into corners, and not like they were still in high school bragging about what they did at the weekend.

Don't you find it weird that Ryan indulges in barstool braggadocio when a radio mike is put in from of him after he has been selected as VP. He even relishes the "Holy Smokes" by responding "Yes, I was pretty fast when I was younger".

    Bizarre.

Won't be the last lie he'll get caught on in the next six weeks.

There is discussion of Ryan's lies during his speech here, other theads can cover Romney's "non truths" (lies?) and others.

No. It doesn't. The DNA I have have inherited from those distant ancestors is so diluted as to be negligible.

Take away any direct lineage and you no longer exist.

So in fact it is far from negligible when you are talking about direct ancestors, if you say they are insignificant and don't matter, well as i said, remove it and you would not exist.

Paul Ryan's great great grandfather from Kilkenny is significant as without him, Paul Ryan would not exist, he is the person who went to the USA which eventually led to a direct relative being a VP choice in the election.

Shocked to see Fox publish such an article. Though it's nowhere to be found on the frontpage. Still. I wonder what the fox and GOP faithful think of this. I think the only reason it's really visible is because it's trending. Still. Shocked.

Paul Ryan is far more intelligent than his counterpart.

Remember Biden is unable to count or spell, not sure which, he said there was three letters in the word 'jobs'.

Thankfully a Democrat said that and not a Republican...

Biden has a bad case of foot-in-mouth disease, but he is far from stupid. He is one of the most knowledgable people in Washington on US foreign policy.

Substitute "Ireland" for Kilkenny and this describes about 25% of the US population.

Why does this matter, again?

And to think the lefties scoff at Fox news imbalance.Anyone reading Karen Colemans piece in yesterdays independent comparing Ryan to Trevelyan with half a brain can see how intolerant the Irish liberal elite have become with anyone who dares oppose their World view.Ryan according to Dr.Mcquaide sorry Coleman is going to export the USs corn while the old die.

Sorry... this doesn't change the fact that fox news are quite possibly the WORST news channel in the western world. It doesn't change the sheer deluge of lies and misinformation they spew out on a continual basis.

Yes they OCCASIONALLY have the token, 'opposing view,' article from the likes of Juan Williams or the above as well as having the token 'democrat,' on 'the five,' but this doesn't really change or excuse who they are and what they do.

to be fair i havent given much credence to other networks either. some of the **** i see on msnbc is as bad as some of the **** i see on fox, and the way CNN covered the Treyvon Martin case was a disservice to themselves.

I dont give Fox any credence whatsoever no more than CNN,RTE,BBC,Sky because they are all simply driving their own agenda. In fact with regard to Europe and North America maybe Al Jazeera is the most reliable.Dont you find it extraordinary that it appears 10000 people marched in a Turkish city yesterday opposing its government support for the Sirian opposition not a word has appeared in the English speaking media. We are being brainwashed by governments and corporations at an appalling level.

    Interesting.

I found it to be a drooling and cartoon-ish anti-gun piece, with no understanding of the place of guns in American society but you picked up on John Kelly's views about Ryan/Trevelyan.
