After all this if I have to look at Joe Cole in a Liverpool jersey I think I will punch the balls off myself .

My prediction of the day is Joe Cole in swap deal of something or other with Dempsey.

My point is in relation to the agreed optional buy option. Lets say it is set at £15m. If Andy bangs in the goals, West Ham will exercise the option when we could have got the same or more on the open market after his loan. If he doesn't do well they just won't buy him and we are stuck back with him. It has zero advantages for us? I honestly don't know another club who does deals with these optional buy clause, it's ridiculous.

I see your point but .....

    1. Carroll is not in BR's plans period. So him staying to fight for his place or try make an impact is pointless. Manager has his mind made up.

    2. A loan fee (whatever it is) and paying full wages, frees up between £4-£7 million on the books for a player that would not be featuring prominently under BR.

    3. Re: Option to Buy - it's not ideal but it's far from a horrible thing either. Carroll will be a big fish in a small pond at Upton Park. It is more likely than not given how Big Sam tries to "play", that he will be the focal point and do well. Add to that you have the injury to Rooney currently, which means the England strikeforce consists of Carroll, Defoe, Wellbeck and Sturridge. Given the latter 3 are not even 1st choice regulars, the chances are Carroll will be the focal point of the England attack too.

It's not merely about how he performs at West Ham, his England performances will have a bearing on his market value. I think he did very well at the Euros too and can see him doing well in the current qualification campaign.

All in all if a guaranteed £17m clause was in place it would be better. In the absence of it, BR has freed up a massive chunk of money off the wage bill and there is plenty of reason to believe Carrolls value will appreciate rather than depreciate over the coming season.

It's ironic that in many respects, BR is taking over a shambles to an extent left by Kenny/Comolli. The atrocious transfer dealings of that pair left a lot of high earning. overvalued, over-rated (by them) players i.e. a lot of expensive dead wood. BR is doing what he can to overhaul the process. Early signs are very positive in my opinion.

Was it an embarrassment when Kenny had, and used, a personal Twitter account when he was Academy Ambassador? What about when he was manager?

Sure, what I'm suggesting is that high profile employees who have a natural media interfacing capacity to their jobs shouldn't venture personal opinions as EVERTHING they say will be construed as representative of the club's position.

I mean, it's not controversial to suggest that many footballers would be better served by not being on twitter, right?

Stop talking about the players like they are under the same boss, they arent. You dodnt know how they could have developed, they are only in the door in terms of settling into the place and are sold again. What will you be saying in 18 months if the same happens to Rodgers and we have players like Borini who arent in the next managers plans?, will he be a failure too?

My point is not about Charlie Adam -- it is about how the owners have now realised that we overpaid significantly in previous windows, and are naturally reluctant to do so again.

    Some facts about Dempsey:
    29 years of age
    Last year of contract
Playing at one of the league's smaller clubs
On mutiny from his club so he can join us
Turned down a move to Villa, holding out for us
His club have already signed replacements in Berbatov and Petric

With all of the above in mind, we should be trying to get the price as low as possible -- not just spunk the cash again like we've previously done. If the sagas of Carroll, Adam, Downing etc have taught the owners anything, it's that clubs can get seriously bent over in the transfer market. It would be nice if we weren't the ones getting it in the arse, for once.

I have a gut feeling aul clint could be another regretful signing .
A good fantasy premier league player just like adam was.
I could be wrong though I dont see him spearheading an attack though . Hes more like suarez than ian rush . Ii think its an ian rush type player liverpool need.
For me sturridge would be a better fit for liverpool . All this supposed talk of liverpool waiting to get dempsey cheap could simply be liverpool not being interested.
Apart from a supposed website hack there has been no evidence iv seen to suggest otherwise.
I still think chicarito on loan would be perfect for liverpool with suarez and gerrard playing wide roles.
Maybe united would be reluctant but thus is a business after all . They both have american owners now that couldnt give a toss about shipbuilding in the diistant past .

The point is he didn't make them when employed by the club. The tweets people are talking about were made when he was employed as a Journalist and was just giving opinions on players. That has all stopped since he joined Liverpool.

    Opr

Ah, okay. So what I'm suggesting is actually what is happening. I'm an idiot, but glad to see fairly standard norms are being followed in this case. :)

In fairness Chang has tweeted nothing but LFC news since his appointment .

This whole debate started by a tweet that somebody allegedly seen a deleted twet by him .

It should be simply, really. Jen Chang should no longer have an individual personality on twitter or any other social media site. That should be one of the prices of taking up such a job. Because when he talks he is now considered a representative of the club.

This would be very, very standard practice in basically any industry as far as I understand. If people can think of examples to the contrary hit me with them - I do find it to be an interesting topic.

But some of his tweets are to tell his followers there there will be an LFC announcement soon, kind of like calling a press conference.

I doubt for one second that the club don't know what he's tweeting. There are lots of other club staff who follow him...

Oh definitely. Just you asked for an example so I gave you one. Once, while Kenny was manager, a friend asked me "does Kenny use his Twitter account?". I lied and said no because I was embarrassed. Jen Chang shouldn't be giving out personal opinion on Twitter no. However according to opr it's all sound since he got the job. Wasn't the case with Kenny.

The footballers themselves I don't mind being on Twitter. Let them at it.

Players prices can drop dramatically on the last day if the club want them gone. Carroll a perfect example of this.

Shaking the penny jar on the last day of a window to get a desperately needed player into the club is bloody amateurish stuff as far as im concerned. What if Dempsey gets the arse with the whole situation, still wants to join us but stays at Fulham and sees out his contract?, where does that leave us after we got rid of Carroll?. Two forwards and 2 youngsters for a whole season in 4 comps. Do you want the club to be scrounging around for 3rd choice loan deals that will have a big impact on a season?.

Any links to the EL group stage live draw? UEFA website not showing anything yet at least, was meant to start at 12.

What if we spent £12 million on Dempsey and he reverts to his pre-2011 form of single-figure goals in a season? What if the gamble doesn't pay off, and we don't finish top 4? What if next season, Agger or Lucas turn around and want a new contract, but we're not in a position to give them one because we don't have that extra £5 million in our accounts?

I've no problem with spending money on Dempsey. But when the circumstances are so heavily stacked in our favour, overpaying for him would make it officially the most ridiculous piece of business FSG -- and that's saying something.

Well we look like proper idiots getting rid of Carroll then if something wasnt tied up.

If Fulham are accepting 7m offers its unlikely they are asking for 12m off us.

What if our lack of ambition results in Agger and Lucas (or anyone else) handing in transfer requests?, we could play that all day.
