I sense in this deal we pushed for it ?
I see Carrolls value going up if he does really well
And i see him doing really well considering how West Ham will play

Its a gamble,But how can he not score with West Ham

I think this deal is slightly different to the ones we got screwed in with Aquilani.

I don't think Carroll's value will drop in the next year, it may increase if he does well.

He is also going to a team that plays to his strengths where he will be a guaranteed starter.

If West Ham stay up, I'd say it will be fairly certain that he will stay there.

I'd say a deal for a new striker is done already.

Could be good also as if he does play well and get his confidence up we can keep him if we want

I have a feeling a striker has been lined up for a while. We have 24 hours this time to find one

My point is in relation to the agreed optional buy option. Lets say it is set at £15m. If Andy bangs in the goals, West Ham will exercise the option when we could have got the same or more on the open market after his loan. If he doesn't do well they just won't buy him and we are stuck back with him. It has zero advantages for us? I honestly don't know another club who does deals with these optional buy clause, it's ridiculous.

But if we have already agreed a fee with West Ham, it won't really matter how well he does for them his value won't increase?

In fairness Melion, you're a good poster but at this stage your constant agenda with Llyod is more predictable than anything else on this thread.

You've said your bit and its gone far beyond being something constructive to any discussion in here. It's getting tiresome.

Lloyd has the clubs best interest at heart, even if he does dip his posts in a bit of hyperbole from time to time imo. Your making him out to be far worse than he is.

How do you figure that? We save £4 m wages on a third choice striker who scored S F A goals last season and who's market value is currently £12m. If he plays well his value goes up, if he doesn't it won't drop much.

    Simples!

    Optional,Not a guaranteed agreement /?
Does that mean we have control
    He scores 25 league goals
West ham say yes please, here's 15m
We say no thanks,Newcastle now offering 22m

    Can we do this?

I wouldn't get your hopes up of signing a 'goalscorer' to replace Carroll.

That's not to say if I were in Rodgers' shoes, I would not buy one, far from it. I would, as most here would, buy someone who can finish. I won't pretend to have seen much of Welliton but the type of player Kess describes him as is what I would be looking for.

But did Rodgers not say he wanted goals to come from all areas of the strikeforce as opposed to a single forward (I'm paraphrasing here)? I do see the rational side of this - rather than putting your eggs all in one basket and then see the 'goalscorer' crocked. By that token buying say (and this is hypothetical), Dempsey and Walcott over Huntelaar does have its merits.

Having said that, if you are going by that route, you buy prolific players. Walcott's record isn't bad, but his pace is by far and away his main attribute. You have that threat already in Sterling and Assaidi. It would make much more sense to buy Dries Mertens or someone of his ilk. Someone with a record of scoring a high figure from a wide forward position, not an average one. And there will be those out there

What would my ultimate preference be? Get rid of Adam and Cole, and get a reliable CF (And Dempsey if possible). But, if Rodgers works by the logic I considered higher up, and I suspect he will, it has to be 2 goalscoring guys. And I wouldn't peg Walcott as one.

    Yes.

Not the way I would see it. An option to buy at an agreed price would mean we have already accepted to do a deal at an agreed price next season if they want. Same as the Aquilani deals.

On the flipside, he scores 8 goals and west ham say no thanks and he's back with us,with less value.

It must be John Henry making these deals or something.

Liverpool couldn't score goals last season and are already struggling this season.

If he doesn't sign a goalscorer it may well cost him his job.

The 23-year-old has moved to the Boleyn Ground from Liverpool for the remainder of the 2012/13 Barclays Premier League campaign, with the Hammers having the option to complete a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee next summer.

It's up to them whether they exercise that option. If Andy bangs in 25 goals and they meet the agreed buy option price we can't say no thanks.
