Don't know how I missed it, but Joe Cole turned down a move to Spartak Moscow.

I've just remembered this comedic gem from Gerrard.
Joe Cole is better than Lionel Messi, claims Liverpool's Steven Gerrard
    • Captain excited about new era after 'horror' of last season
    • 'Anything Messi can do, Joe can do as well, if not better'

Steven Gerrard believes Liverpool are set for a bright new era under Roy Hodgson after the "horror" of last season – and claims that the new signing Joe Cole is better than Barcelona's Lionel Messi.

Gerrard, in an interview with Match of the Day magazine, said the new manager has already given Liverpool a lift after a disappointing seventh-place finish last season.

"It's a great club and after speaking with Roy Hodgson I'm really pleased to see his plans for the club. It's a new era now – we must forget about the horror of what happened last season and get this club back to where it belongs, which is the Champions League at the very least."

Gerrard said Cole, signed in July on a Bosman from Chelsea, has the ability to drive the team forward.

"[Lionel] Messi can do some amazing things, but anything he can do Joe can do as well, if not better. He used to shock us in training by doing footy tricks with a golf ball that most players can't even do with a football. I really fancy Joe for the [player of the year] award this season."

You are probably right but realise the absolute (self made) desperate situation we have put ourselves in, a situation that the selling club know to which I expect us to pay a massively over infalted price.

It's an indication just how much we've fallen in stature as a club under the last two managers that a team that were once one of our biggest rivals is now willing to loan us players.

Since when did Dempsey become a striker? I've seen people mention it a few times

ORLY? Figured a striker would be high up the pecking order.... do you know if we've someone else lined up, apart from that shambles of a loan deal for sturridge

Yeah we are signing a great young english talent from west ham who can hold up the ball, inter link play and can score goals from outside the box.

jesus f*cking christ lads will you all calm down and stop behaving like 5 year old girls. "OMG OMG he said this, he said that OMFG I'm like so outraged".

So Carroll is gone on loan - good. He is not good enough for Liverpool. I feel sorry for him but thats the way it is. Even if he goes on and scores 20 for WH he's not our style of player. We're not a long ball team and we're not gonna be playing that way. Sam will play exactly that way and build his team around him - good luck to them. I like Andy but I never felt confidence when I saw him in the lineup.
Adam is almost gone - Not a bad player but again I dont think was up to the standard we want. Hope he does well at stoke.
Hendo - not a bad player, maybe one for the future. I'd be happy to see him stay. But where is he going to play with Allen and Lucas in there? Never mind Gerrad and Sahin. When is going to get his chance? He might not over the next 2-3 years realistically. Allen is the same age and imo is a better player.

The usual crowd are up in arms like they know everything thats going on. We haven't a clue so stop talking sh*te and making assumptions. A lot of ITK reporters and twitter heads get things wrong - just look at the Sahin deal.

So far I think we've done pretty well in the transfer window so lets hope we get 1 or 2 good players in today - wait and see.

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Völler in Süddeutsche: "We have decided that @andre_schuerrle & L. Bender will not be sold"

So unless Chelsea have another target that means Sturridge is more than likely staying.

I find it absolutely shocking the lack of vision of some supporters at this club. Its the same retards that tried to hound Lucas out and its too bad Insua got the same sh1t.

Henderson and Carroll were bought with a vision in mind. They were bought with the notion that they had 10 years in them and if it didnt work out, maybe 3 years down the road they would get sold. They were bought to play and develop and grow into the team. We arent talking about seasoned 'travellers' in the game, both of them left boyhood clubs. If they came up through our ranks we would be creaming ourselves over them. Instead, we seem to be hunting them out the door like vermin.

    Different regime, different vision.

Henderson for me will be no loss, as others have said Shelvey, 3 years his junior, is ahead of him and will stay ahead of him in the pecking order as are Allen, Gerrard and a fit Lucas... Sahin probably will be too. If Dempsey does come in he can play the AM role also giving more options in midfield.

Calling him crap was probably a bit strong as he can play a pass and get around a bit, but he lacks conviction, he never wants to grab hold of a game and more often than not you wouldn't even know if he was on the field. You can't coach that moral fiber.

Villarreal have enquired about the availability of Dani Pacheco, last night, for a season loan. Not aware of what #LFC's stance is.

True enough that Dempsey could still turn down a move to Villa, instead choosing us if there's an agreeable bid on the table.

This may be the same kind of tactic from Fulham that some of us thought was being employed with the Carroll-West Ham announcement at c. 9pm last night (i.e. to squeeze a solid bid out of Newcastle). I personally hope it goes a different way than that one did, as I've always been a big fan of Dempsey potentially going to Liverpool.

Dempsey is a decent player but not a top priority.

I think Villa having a bid accepted is probably a good thing. Its means a fair market price has been established. If we are prepared to match it, there's no doubt he will choose us. But we can't complain of being ripped off if a club like Villa are prepared to pay it.

Spearing just doing his best 'Arry impression out of the car window. He has had a medical at Bolton, definitely a 6 month loan, option to extend to a year, just needs to cross the t's and dot the i's on the contract. SSN reporter reckons it's a year loan but we can cancel the second 6 months if needs be.

#LFC weighing up Leandro Damiao. Been offered the option of season long loan at cost of £3m. Option to sign him on perm for £13m next summer

    Sami Mokbel ‏@SamiMokbel81_DM
#LFC would need to make a quick decision on Damiao, though. Paperwork issues means completing deal would take longer than usual

Dail Fail journalist has to be trolling us right? We'd be snap calling if that offer was on the table?

alot of fans would have thought differently when he was struggling, he was accused of going missing and not wanting the ball.

Even when his form was average to poor, going missing and not wanting the ball are two things that I have not heard being said in relation to Lucas.

The one thing he has never lacked is effort.

Not gonna happen in a million years. Sturridge on loan and Clint Dempsey the most likely.

Its not even physically possible to get him over for medical, permit paperwork etc.

This is officially the stupidest rumour of the transfer window...
