Tom Werner (on the clubs spending)
''We are in this for the long-term and every pound that we make will strengthen the club.
''We do have great resources. We have a very high wage bill and it shouldn't be such that we are 12th in the league right now.
''I don't want to get the wage bill down, I want it to increase and we have the resources to do that - I just think we ought to be performing at a better level than we had been.

    Ian Ayre:(on the clubs structure)
“The idea is rather than one person being responsible for all the elements Damien’s role took on, we will divide up the responsibilities,” Ayre said. “We will have a slightly different structure so there will be two or three positions within that. Running a big football club is a big challenge. It’s evident we need to focus on each area with a specialist who will deliver value in each area.

    Rodgers (on Henderson):
    'This kid can play football.
'The biggest thing for me that I've heard about Jordan is his attitude. He has got an incredible attitude.

'If you have got a player like that who has got the ability and the thirst to learn - he can run all day, he is physically good, he is strong, he is quick - and you can remodel him.'

Henderson is crap, and crap that we grossly over paid for. If we can recoup any of that value then go for it. In a couple of years he will be worth 5/6m at best.

I don't know how guys are defending him, he goes missing in every game he plays, including last nights game where you'd think he would come out and show the manager he is worth keeping.

Crap is a bit harsh. He looked a good, sometimes great player at Sunderland, he showed glimpses of ability last year in a struggling side, out of position. I can completely understand moving Carroll on, but Henderson can run all day and recycle a ball which is something I thought the manager would look for. With the right coaching, he could be a good squad player for us, I think Rodgers needs to work with him a bit more. FSG should just release some funds for the Dempsey signing, they're handcuffing Rodgers here.

Wasn't so long ago people were saying the same about Lucas...

Not really,. expectations are not that high, who really expects us to get beyond 5th this year?

I do. And if not, I hope to see us come close and to see signs that we have the right manager in place and can crack top 4 next season with further investment.

Jordan Henderson is worth no more than £8M.

I honestly thought he was a good buy, and I was always in favour of him being picked in the team. He has decent ability, good control, good passer. But doesnt ever seem to take a game by the scruff of the neck.

His problem at LFC is that Jonjo Shelvey has passed him out in the midfield pecking order. Which is the best way of putting a value on him.

I'm not particularly in favour of selling Henderson, but if that was the only way we could afford Dempsey, and the manager really wants Dempsey, then so be it.
The issue is with the fuzzy and muddled thinking on display.

We're supposed to be dumping Kenny so we can really put the right structure in place. Then we actually bring in Rodgers as the guy with no DOF, etc and Segura leaves as a result.

We're supposed to be getting younger and cheaper with a mind to onsale flexibility. Then we're actually trying to ship a promising young player and cash for an expensive 29 year old.

    I am concerned.

Henderson is clearly not crap, the guy doesn't know what he is on about.

Granted he may not be in the first 11 but his energy and versatility is something that I would have thought would be extremely important for Rodger's squad.

Looks like Conor Wickham will leave Sunderland and drop down a league, remember when we were dissapointed to miss out on him in a transfer window?

I find it absolutely shocking the lack of vision of some supporters at this club. Its the same retards that tried to hound Lucas out and its too bad Insua got the same sh1t.

Henderson and Carroll were bought with a vision in mind. They were bought with the notion that they had 10 years in them and if it didnt work out, maybe 3 years down the road they would get sold. They were bought to play and develop and grow into the team. We arent talking about seasoned 'travellers' in the game, both of them left boyhood clubs. If they came up through our ranks we would be creaming ourselves over them. Instead, we seem to be hunting them out the door like vermin.

Fair fúcks to Rogers for clearing out all the deadwood, still some more to go, but at least with some of these gone it opens the way for the introduction of possible new players or the promotion of youth players.

Agreed. I am delighted he is taking this hardline approach. It he is going to be a success he needs to do things his way and get in the players HE wants.

Dempsey is off to villa apparently, shame I really like him even at 29 he would have added to the squad. His I won't play thing at fulham really backfired, now he's at a lesser club when he wanted to come to us..

alot of fans would have thought differently when he was struggling, he was accused of going missing and not wanting the ball.

Another young overhyped English player. Throw him on the pile.

The penny will drop eventually, they will just have to be told 40 or 50 times over a year or two before it sinks in.

Ben Smith confirms the loan move for Sturridge.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19434488?print=true
Daniel Sturridge: Liverpool make loan move for Chelsea forward
    By Ben Smith
    BBC Sport
Liverpool have made an offer to take Daniel Sturridge on loan from Chelsea.
Negotiations began between the clubs began late on Thursday night, just hours after Liverpool allowed Andy Carroll to join West Ham on loan.
Chelsea are understood to be open to allowing the 22-year-old England player to leave on loan, but Tottenham are also interested.

Would they ever just f*ck off.

I agree that young players need time but Rodgers doesn't have to stick with the same young players as Kenny if he doesn't want to. The vermin remark is ridiculous. The manager has finite resources and has to make difficult decisions about fringe players.

FWIW I think it would be ******* madness to offload Henderson

Although Fulham have accepted a bid from Villa, it doesn't necessarily mean the player will go there?

So Dempsey gone to Villa, what now?

I'd say we could vulture the Villa/Dempsey deal if we really wanted to.

Since we does bid accepted mean a done deal?
Sometimes several clubs have bids accepted on the one player. Does that mean he plays for all the clubs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,402 ✭✭✭Ardent

Still confident Dempsey will be an LFC player by end of day.

ORLY? Figured a striker would be high up the pecking order.... do you know if we've someone else lined up, apart from that shambles of a loan deal for sturridge

Far from it. He won't want to go there unless he has no alternative.
We are waiting for Adam to be confirmed so we have the cash to match the bid, which is a little high at £8M. As soon as Adam to Stoke is confirmed, watch our move for Dempsey step up, unless there is a larger target on the horizon...
