In fairness it's hardly like he's saying it behind Andy's back. Sounds like he has made every player well aware of the situation they will be in next season if they decide to stay and I don't think the players can ask for much more than that from the manager.

The wingers on £5-6m a year, that's Cole I presume

How many years does Cole left on his contract?

Was it Joe Cole the winger he was talking about. It really is a bit hurtful to him though . He has a contract its not his fault hes pants now. If he had of turned into messi in them 4 years and was being offered 400 000 a week to play for madrid he would of had to honour his contract. But it looks like BR is trying to force him off it.
Some would call it ruthless some would call it bad form . They didnt say hey play for us and we will give you a hundred grand a week and you can leave whenever you want.
Im kinda split on what side of the arguement Id be on .

I lost my son in February to a brain tumor. He was my best friend and although he wasn't really interested in football (he was only 3), I'm sure he would have been a Liverpool supporter although there was some serious competition from the mrs. who is a Man U supporter.

The point I'm making is i can understand the devastation that young Grahams parents and family are going through, their lives are changed forever. Its really nice to see the club he loves acknowledge it formally. YNWA young man. RIP

Really sorry to hear that mate. Have a 2 and 4 year old myself and don't know how I'd cope in your shoes.

Whatever about Kuyt, wasn't Rodgers pretty open about trying to convince Maxi to stay?

I remember reading about it but I wasn't sure if it was official or just paper talk. You could well be right.

Eh? There is no side of the argument. Both sides have a contract, he has to agree to leave, so is fully protected.

He's not in the managers plans, so if an offer comes in that suits both parties, he will leave.

As an aside, it is partially his fault he's rubbish now - his effort and fitness levels at LFC have been embarrassing. Far as I'm concerned, for the money he's on, he's under obligation to be at his absolute peak at all times when physically possible - he very much hasn't lived up to this.

Times saying Newcastle want to take Carroll on loan for the coming season, with a guaranteed £15M permanent deal next season. What's the difference if you are going to pay the money anyway, just pay it now?

Times - Offloading Andy Carroll remains key to Brendan Rodgers rebuilding mission. - Tony Barrett.
Brendan Rodgers wants Andy Carroll to accept that his career at Anfield is over as the Liverpool manager looks to cash in on the out-of-favour forward to step up his interest in Theo Walcott and Clint Dempsey.

Before what promises to be a hectic last 48 hours of the transfer window for Liverpool, Rodgers reiterated that he needs to sell before he can buy. He hopes to use the proceeds of sales to add Walcott — who held talks with Arsène Wenger, the Arsenal manager, yesterday — and Dempsey, the Fulham forward, to his squad.

Charlie Adam looks set to join Stoke City while Jay Spearing will leave on loan, with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bolton Wanderers interested in the midfielder.

Those deals will free up the funds for Liverpool to reignite their interest in Dempsey, having previously ruled out a move for the American, 29, because of his age and Fulham’s £10 million asking price.

But unless the Liverpool owner releases funds to facilitate an offer for Walcott as a potential marquee signing, any hopes Rodgers has of beating Manchester City to his signature will rest on whether they can attract a significant fee for Carroll and convince the 23-year-old to leave.
Walcott met Wenger yesterday after turning down a new contract and informed the Arsenal manager that he is not agitating for a transfer. Wenger, in turn, told Walcott that he will not be sold during this transfer window, but Liverpool and City are ready to test the Frenchman’s resolve to keep a player who is in the final 12 months of his contract.

City are likely to make a formal offer for the England player today, but also remain interested in Scott Sinclair, having had a £6.2 million bid for the winger rejected by Swansea City, who are seeking a fee in excess of £7 million.

In the absence of the kind of spending power available at City, Rodgers will use the remaining time in the window to put together a financial package that may tempt Arsenal and Walcott to do business. The situation surrounding Carroll, who continues to interest Newcastle United, his former club, and West Ham United, is key to his hopes.

“Obviously, I have seen a lot of the links and it is great that those players would want to come here, but the reality is that we are not in a position to do those sort of deals at this stage,” Rodgers said. “The reality is, financially, we need to repair, so the players being linked for the money mentioned, I don’t have the ability to sign in this window.

“I respect players and I’m precise with my information so they know where they stand. We all come into the profession knowing what the job is. Ultimately, it comes down to what your objective is as a player.
“I can only be straight. I’ve made it clear I have a 1 to 11, cover players and development players. Some of the development players may become starters. If you fit outside that, I will tell you. Then it’s up to the player. Does the player want to play football?

“You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see Andy has been a cover player for us and has been excellent in terms of his attitude and acceptance of where he is at, but as a football club, I don’t think we are in a position to have £35 million players as third-choice strikers, or wingers who are on £5 million-£6 million a year. This is the challenge I have.”
Carroll has been omitted from the Liverpool squad for the Europa League play-off round, second leg against Heart of Midlothian tonight as Rodgers continues attempts to offload him.

Newcastle’s offer to take Carroll on loan for the rest of this season, with a guaranteed £15 million at the end of the campaign, remains on the table and Alan Pardew is hopeful that a deal can be struck. But Liverpool are reluctant to accept that bid.

“I’ve always said it’s nothing really down to me,” the Newcastle manager said. “Would I want him in my squad? Of course, I would. Probably every Premier League manager in the country would want him in their squad. But can the business deal be done? That’s nothing to do with me.”

Oddly enough I've found it easy to pick up bits and pieces of German from watching and listening to it, esp Rammstein. Awesome band too ( though when you figure what some of their songs mean they are a bit ****ed up).

Haha, that's how I began learning German originally :D
Wished I had took up German for the Leaving Cert, would have saved a fair bit of time later down the line.

I can hold more than decent conversation in German these days, could still improve more though.

You've got £15m earning you interest in the bank or enables you to invest in other players this year. Also affects budgets as well.

So heading over to Anfield in the next few months for the villa match. Will probably be a 4pm Kick off on the Sunday if we win tommorrow. So what's the chances I would be able to make the 7.45pm flight back to Dublin from John Lennon if kick off is at 4????

The Europa League group stages wrap up on Dec 6th,so you should be grand and that game should stay a Sat kick off.

    So long Adams.

Bit worried about the Lucas injury we still don't have anybody who's a like for like replacement.

Would be happy to see the back of Adam, very disappointed in him. Gave away too many fouls. I had a dislike for him that i had previously only reserved for Vladimir Smicer (champions league final goal excepted).

    James Pearce ‏@JamesPearceEcho
Charlie Adam set to be sold to Stoke and with exit of Jay Spearing as well that will allow #LFC to finally get Dempsey.

For a few months, we should be ok with Allen, Sahin, Stevie, Hendo and Shelvey. Even can use Suso for cup or some EL games. It's only 3 months tops. If it drags on, we can work on it in January. Still a lot more depth than last year...

He'd better sell him after saying that tbh.
I don't get why he'd say this, it's pretty disrespectful towards Carroll while saying it will only serve the purpose of driving down the fee we can command for him.

I am aware of that but the OP said if we win tomorrow it will likely be a Sun game,I am pointing out that tomorrow has no effect on it.Villa are not a big draw for Sky so a good chance this is staying a Sat game IMO.

relax! all i am saying is SOME players become injury prone after a massive injury in their early 20s. That's all.... none of us can predict how it will go but early signs are mixed. One long lay-off followed by another = very common. It all depends on the next injury and how long that is for. But the likes of Anderton, Kieron Dyer, Michael Essien etc all followed a major injury with years of injury problems. To say it's a "wind-up" to suggest this is possible is not fair! and i said fingers crossed it's not the case!

Ok fair enough you were genuine. Sorry for suggesting otherwise.
