Between him doing GAA stuff and him and Magee (I think) doing boxing commentary over here in Ireland, anyone outside of Ireland really has to be thinking that the Irish are a bunch of muck savages.

Did you watch any of the RTE coverage of the basketball at he Olympics?

    Boooom shakalaka

Darren Anderton? He had one bad injury and, like a lot of players coming back from a big injury, picked up another one. He won't be rushed back next time and should be grand.

Fingers crossed. It's just got a very similar ring to it so far. Anderton had a hernia operation at the age of 23 in 1995 which kept him out of the 95/96 season. Of his 450 appearances in a 19 year career, 150 of those were between 92-95 and 300 between 95-08.

Also we can't really assume Lucas was "rushed back". Traditionally the anterior cruciate is a 6 month jobby, so that would have put him back in training around May/June. Player dependent of course - some make full recoveries a lot sooner, some take longer. But i doubt the LFC medical team would have rushed him back.

Only time will tell if this is just a horrible run of luck or an injury-prone player never to hit the career heights we all think he can hit.

When he got back in training something on LFC.tv said it would normally take 8 months to get back from that injury, he got back in just over 6 so maybe he did come back too soon. The fact it happened in the warm up before the City game makes me wonder did they make it worse by letting him play the 3/4 minutes he did.

lol "ground duels" sounds like a ridiculous, american football/wrestling style stat!!

Lucas is fast become the modern Darren Anderton. Harsh perhaps but it's starting to look like an injury ravaged career.

2 injuries and he's the new sick note? Mate would ya ever feck off

It's a different injury to the one he had previously? I can't see why people are saying they are linked?

I thought wonderfullife was on a windup when I first read it. Actually I'm still not sure.

Sometimes with cruciate ligament injuries the ligament pulls off the thigh bone itself so if this happened to Lucas originally last season he may well still have some issues in that region.

I'll be honest - I thought of you when I saw the news last night.

We got Allen for the same money - let's see which club got the better deal.

My mind was imagining a team that had both Allen and Dembele in it. Plus given that Dembele can play in CM, AM, CF, and on either flank I am sure we could have found a space for him. :D

While you're here Kess, or anybody else fluent in German, how difficult a language is it to learn?

It's been on my to do list for around a year now, both for employment reasons and just a hankering to learn the language and be able to reside in the country at a bit more ease.

In terms of my own language skills, Irish would be the only secondary language I can speak to a handy level. Did about ten hours worth of French, enough to get a C1 in ordinary level in the Leaving, in order to get into my college.

So relatively speaking I have no real idea of my grasp for languages and whether or not I'd be at ends wits just trying to pronounce Guten Tag properly tbh :D

After seeing that fake ITK twitter page get over 45K followers i think somebody should get on to Andy Carrol about setting up a brown sources twitter page. Speaking of which he hasn't been around here for a while has he?

Just using stumbleupon for some random browsing and come across an American 25 biggest hold your breath moments in sport, and while most are obviously US sports Istanbul is included. It's funny though how wrong it looks in US speak, much like Irish people using US speak for US sports just sounds wrong.
With a victory already in the bag for heavily-favored Milan (as far as analysts were concerned), the '05 Champions League Final would become one for the ages.

Down 3-0 at half, things looked even bleaker for the perhaps intimidated Liverpool squad. Until they secured three goals in a six-minute spell to tie the score, that is. The two teams would then stay knotted at three through overtime, and finally reach a shootout.

With Liverpool up 3-2 in penalties, Milan's Andriy Shevchenko had one last shot to tie it. Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek would have none of it. Liverpool wins their fifth European Cup.

If I end up having an 'extra-language-module' at uni, which, doing politics, I could well have, i'm going to get stuck into some German as well.

I found it easy enough, but then again I found myself surrounded by Irish, German, and Danish speakers from a young age, so although I grew up in Liverpool I had family members that pretty much foisted those languages on me.

Then as I got older my wanderlust emerged and I also discovered that I had both a love and a knack for languages. Hence living/working in Japan, Belgium, Germany, and France just to name four countries I lived in and also speak the lingo of.

I do think that German is not a difficult language to learn tbh, and that a lot of the vocalisations feel natural to an English speaker.

I am learning Chinese (Mandarin) at present as I intend on living there for a year or two in the not too distant future and like many places I have lived in I want to be able to avoid using English as much as possible when it is not the main language.

We'll have to set up a German only thread or set a new rule for the Bundesliga one :p

Being fluent in a least one other langauge will really stand by you later in life, so if you get the chance you should take it.

It also makes it a lot more fun going to Bundesliga games when you understand the chants and can join in when there is banter.

Probably a little better than Leaving cert standard. So not great, but not bad for a lad from Liverpool I suppose. I can go to Irish speaking areas in Galway and Kerry and understand what is being said to me though, and they can understand what I am saying.:)

Have a bit of trouble with how Irish from the Waterford area can be spoken though, as the phrasing seems to be a bit different there and the enunciation of traditional Irish there can throw me

EDIT: I was replying to Dro but now his/her post is gone

I got stuck into a German once, many moons ago. Cracker she was.
Met her in some boozer off Dame St and ended up falling out of her flat on the SCR about 6am.
Tried to avoid my manager for the game that morning but got hunted down and thrown a jersey .

Lasted 30mins and went in for a ball I should never had and broke my tibia in two places .

    Ahh the memories :):p

    .

Totally agree with this. Lived in Holland for 7 years and now fluent in Dutch. Love the language, similar grammar to German takes a little getting used to but once you get your head around it you're fine. Hardest thing about learning any language is pronunciation and accent and having the nerve to speak it without worrying about making mistakes.

I love how it has nouns that are literal descriptions of objects. like stofzuiger=dustsucker=hoover and tandvlees=toothmeat=gum, how can you not love it?

Also, handy if ever in Temple Bar as I can surprise Dutch tourists, especially when they're talking about you!

BTW love these off topic chats, like the one about Breaking Bad the other day!

Tried to learn German but found it too difficult to progress when I couldn't speak or hear it every day. Love the language though.
