Officially you can only get up to 2.3(Gingerbread).

Google the terms "custom rom" "rooting" and "unlocked bootloader" to start yourself off.

The x10 is very dated now. It doesnt have the ram to keep up but a highly optimized ROM will make it perform somewhat better.

Oh yeah, and its not really a year old, its 2, its a 2010 phone, you'd be better off with a 2011 model(Arc/Ray etc).

ROM as in Firmware, or particular version of the Android operating system

Well lads. I have a Desire HD. Unlocked and using it meteor.
The only thing that is annoying me is that it is a Vodafone branded phone. So the Vodafone logo is there on start up, a few vodafone apps that are of no use to me and also when I go into the Market there is a Vodafone picks section on it.
Is there any (easy) to get rid of the branding and the vodafone apps (can't uninstall them)

    The phone is on
    Android:
    2.3.5
    HTC Sense
    3.0

Is that one that will get ICS soon? If so I'd wait for that to be released then flash a generic version.

Just wondering if anyone would have a solution to this. I updated to ICS there last week and since then my contact photos are not showing up in my texting app (Go SMS Pro) and Whatsapp. When I look at the contact in the people app all photos are showing up there. My phone isn't rooted or doesn't have any ROM on it.

Edit: My phone is the HTC Sensation

When photos are synchronised in certain ways (e.g. the facebook app I think) they're only made available to system apps like the phone's own contacts app. Try syncing them with something like syncmypix:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nloko.android.syncmypix&hl=en

    Try:

    1. Setting android to sync all contacts

    2. After thats done go to contacts.google.com and combine contacts manually, that should force them to display.

NB itll take a while to sync both ways some times.

Archos 7 doesn't have google play store, and as I understand runs Android 1.5, which is used by very few devices anymore (that version is pre Hero days). So it is likely not a lot of apps will work on your device. Would suggest you try getjar on the tablets browser, and download from there.

    m.getjar.com

In answer to your other question above, no you cannot download android apps from iTunes, they are for completely different operating systems.

I suppose this is probably the best place to ask this, instead of starting a new thread.

I'm messing around with CM7 on an old Galaxy Mini and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the little icon in the status bar is (top-left of image below) and if there was any way of getting rid of the little bugger? Just when I think I've got rid of him, he re-appears!

Its the CM updater or something(not using a CM mod atm), use titanium to freeze it if you dont want it there, or there may be a setting to not notify.

You on wifi? I'd try that first. [If you are already, try 3G]

    Next go to settings-apps-manage apps-play store-clear data.

If it persists after a reset I'd say its one of two things:

    1. A problem with your google account

    2. If you're always using wifi, you're local subnet is doing something to block the google services framework from grabbing the file. This could be a firewall setting on your router, or a port forward, or w/e. Simplest way to test is try another connection and see.

I downloaded a newer version and everything is working fine now, thanks for the telltale

I'm after buying an Arnova 10b G3 tablet and am wondering what my options are regarding flash content. I've flashed it to use google play but content like netflix or viewing videos??

Not sure if there is a recommended upgrades thread, and don't feel like filling up the forum, so I'll ask here.

I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Ace (Not plus, on stock rom and unrooted) and have had it since March 2011 or so, though I did have it replaced in January.

I'm after receiving a chunk of money, between selling Electric Picnic tickets, and my 18th birthday so I'm thinking of an upgrade.

I am on 3pay and don't want to move network as I joined 3 on a very good deal which they no longer offer in its entirety (Free texts to all networks, free calls to all networks at weekends, free anytime calls to 3 network, unlimited data, €10 free credit anytime I top up by 20).

Therefore, I'm looking for a phone that feels like an upgrade from my SGA, and can be used on 3. Any recommendations? Would the Huawei be worth my while or would that just be on par with my current phone?

I have the Galaxy Ace and the Missus has the Huawei.

I have to say the Huawei is a far superior phone (just look at the specs) and well worth it for the price. I'm certainly looking at getting one myself.

Does your boom box have an 'aux in' port?

I'm sure this is a frequently asked question but a spate of googling hasn't answered it as succinctly as I'd like :)

The boon and bane of the Apple user's life was itunes. Now that I've divorced myself from it, is there an Android equivalent? I've just bought a Galaxy S3 and I'm only familiarising myself with Android. Do I or should I sync the phone to something? Is there a one-stop shop/software package that sorts and files music/pics/vids etc and backs up texts/notes/contacts etc etc?

How do people generally do it as a matter of interest. I quite enjoyed being able to buy an album or song every so often on itunes, or rent a movie and plug the phone into the tv. Can I still do that on the Galaxy and if not through itunes, where might I go?

Sorry if this post reads like that of a neanderthal freshly woken up who can't figure out how the flush toilet works...

There are apps like Airdroid that you can sync files to your phone wireless but I find the easiest way is just connect your phone to your computer and drag and drop whatever files/music/movies straight to your phone.

Stupid question maybe...can you connect an external/portable hard drive to an android tablet? Say the Nexus 10 or Note 10.1?

The official voda ICS upgrade is available here.....

    settings/about phone/online upgrade...

you must be online, either mobile data or wi-fi...

what level of f/w are you on at the moment??

B936 is ICS......last 4 characters of Build number in "about phone".

But, there are much better versions of ICS/CM9 and even Jelly Bean [CM10] available in custom ROMs over in Modaco

Also, instructions there re rooting, unlocking, and other interesting stuff!!!
