    http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-fc/liverpool-fc-news/2012/08/29/liverpool-fc-new-man-nuri-sahin-says-he-s-ready-for-arsenal-100252-31716759/

NURI SAHIN has his sights set on a Liverpool FC debut against Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday as the Turkish midfielder refused to be drawn on his long-term future.

The 23-year-old joined the Reds on a season-long loan move from Real Madrid last week and was in the stands to watch their 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

Sahin isn’t eligible for tomorrow’s home Europa League play-off second leg against Hearts but is expected to take his bow for Brendan Rodgers’ side against the Gunners.

“I’ve trained for three days with the team and everything is going well,” he said.

“I had a pre-season with Real Madrid and I’m ready to play.

“I’ve settled in really well and I hope it will be the same on the pitch.

“The style I play is the same as the manager wants to play here so I hope to have a great season.”

The former Borussia Dortmund star was expected to join Arsenal but the deal collapsed and Liverpool capitalised.

Sahin, who cost the Reds around 2 million euros (£1.6million) in a loan fee to Madrid, has no regrets.

“Everything people told me about Liverpool is there, it’s what I see now,” said Sahin.

“It is a very big club with a huge history and I think I have made the right choice. The project with Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers is the best for my situation I think–- that is why I am here.”

Sahin is unlikely to remain at Anfield beyond next May as Madrid still see him as part of their long term plans. However, if the Spanish giants do decide to sell him Liverpool will have first refusal to buy him. Asked about the prospect of staying with the Reds on a permanent basis, Sahin said: “In football you never know.

“I am here for this season and then you never know what will be happening in a few months.

“I am looking forward to playing this year here and after that we will see. I cannot speak beyond this season.”

Sahin is relishing the prospect of playing regularly after a frustrating first year at Madrid following his move from Dortmund, adding: “This is very important for me after the injury I got last year.

“We became champions at Real Madrid, but I didn’t play so many games, so for me it was important to come to a club where I had the chance to play at the highest level.

“I think in this case Liverpool is the best club for me right now.”

The Germany-born Turkey international was impressed by what he saw in Liverpool’s game against Manchester City and wants to help the Reds achieve a top four finish this season.

“If you watch the game against Manchester City, you see that the style the team is playing is very good and of course, Liverpool has to play in the Champions League,” Sahin said.

“A big club like Liverpool has to play every year in the Champions League and we will do everything to get in the top four. Also there is the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League, and we can do some good things.”

Probably been posted already....I think he looks a great signing so far (early days I know).

Steven Gerrard believes Liverpool have acquired a real talent in Joe Allen.

Allen won the Liverpoolfc.com Man of the Match award for his display against Manchester City on Sunday.

Fellow midfielder Gerrard was also impressed: "When you make big-money signings people expect it to take time to settle in. You naturally give them that bit of time but it seems like Joe has cruised in and settled in really, really well.

"He is only small but he passes the ball well, he's safe in possession, he works really hard for the team.

"If he can keep performing to the level he is then I think we've found ourselves a player."

The game ended 2-2 after Carlos Tevez rounded Pepe Reina to level late on.

The Reds had twice led through Martin Skrtel and Luis Suarez and looked the most likely to clinch all three points.

Gerrard wants the performance to be a benchmark for the Reds this season.

"There are plenty of positives to take from that game," he said. "When you play so well and you only get a draw, it does feel like a defeat, but no one is down after that - it was a great reaction after the West Brom result.

"From Pepe up to Luis, everyone performed well. We're really pleased.

"If we can use that as a benchmark for our performances moving forward I think we can do really well."

We should go on the HUNT for a new striker. I don't mean to STURR the pot, but we don't need any WAL-flowers in the team. This is AFELLAY important to get right...

He's on £115k a week and we are apparently paying most of that.

We are paying him approx 70 k per week I do believe which would equate to Sahin costing the club around £ 5million for the year

    No issue with that whatsoever.

Just noticed that Sahin is not in the Livepool squad for fantasy football.

It'll probably be a late one. Few players didn't go up till late Thursday/eary Friday last week.

Yep and coupled with his wages of circa €5m for the season, it brings things very close to the €7m that was quoted as being the total cost of the deal rather than the 10m -15m sterling that a number were trying to claim it was.

Any views on Sulejmani at Ajax? Rejected a new offer as wants to leave. Ajax say they've already had one serious offer. Never seen him myself.

Might be wrong, but I think we were linked to him under Kenny.

Let's just say he's on £80k a week. He'll be with us until approx end May. Thats about 40 weeks (max). My maths tells me that's £3.2m add £1.6m gives £4.8m.
I think that's a good deal. I don't see him ever playing for Madrid again so chance we could sign him next summer.

Speaking of p1ss poor leagues, how far have Ajax fallen that they give Christian Poulsen a 2 year contract? <---rhetorical.

Yes, credit where's it's due. He made some noise that the club hadn't made any donation towards the new memorial in the city centre, and apparently we have done so now...
