I was only thinking that the other day. I can't even think of 5 top class out and out finishers in European football. I mean players who are just there to finish and dont contribute much else.

    Ronaldo!!

Rodgers saying on the Offal that he has spoken to Downing about using him as a left back. Interesting approach. He's a fairly capable defender, but I would say it's moreso when we go to a back 3, he'd be a wing back with Johnson the other side...

    No, he definately contributes elsewhere.

I guess the much-discussed Huntelaar is a classic finisher. David Villa, Mario Gomes for sure, even RVP? Falcao?

Is Huntelaar even a realistic target? Has there been any definite links which are not just speculation by fans?

They are the 5 I thought of, not much else bar Torres

Could it be that he sees him as a better option going forward from LB than Enrique?

Maybe he will continue to play with the 433, but with Johnson on the right and Downing on the left.

We've seen alot of Johnson in an attacking sense so far this season, so maybe the Idea is to have Downing brush up on his defending, and have him do a similar job. Push right up when attacking, and "obviously" defend when defending?

Never rated Walcott that highly. Way too inconsistent - he hasnt done it yet at arsenal. He was regularly dropped to the bench. We dont need him.

I think we DO need him. He was dropped to be replaced by someone like Ox, Rosicky or Arshavin. If we had those players in reserve, then we could afford to chop and change too. If we had Walcott last season, he would have played RM ahead of Henderson and Kuyt. You can't say that's not an upgrade.

I don't think we should splurge £15M on him, but he's would definately add to our current squad...let's not put all our eggs in the Sterling & Assaidi basket...

Yeah but we are talking the front three. Suarez, Borini, Gerrard, Sterling, Assaidi, Carroll. For the type of money that is being rumoured I dont think he's worth it. I would rather Dempsey tbh or a striker. I just dont think Walcott cuts the mustard. I would prefer Kuyt (a few years younger maybe) to Walcott.

Good Twitter source is @MerseysideAgent, he's been spot on a number of things - said Richardson to Fulham days ago, Niang to Milan way back, he had Spearing to Bolton first, also says Arshavin to Fulham cause he's settled in London.

Anyway, he's saying Cole to West Ham is agreed, £2M fee, just resolving the wages (we'll have to pay a portion). He also says Hulk to Chelsea is at a fee agreed stage, and that Dempsey is already a done deal...

Yep. We are trying to close out the Spearing deal at least (for about £3M) before we can do it. And I guess the Dembele to Spurs move is their current focus.

This next 3 days is going to be nuts, I can see it. City, Spurs, Arsenal, ourselves, Newcastle, Fulham, Everton, Villa and West Ham all likely to have activity, I would say, and maybe Chelsea for another striker if Sturridge is really going?

Gary Jacob has said there is nothing happening at the moment with Joe Cole.
West Ham cannot afford him unless they raise money.

I don't buy that. They said they would have found the money for Carroll, both fee and wages. This is about the same - £2M now and maybe 60/70K a week. So either they want him or them don't.

For what it's worth, if I was them, I wouldn't...

I'd trust Gary Jacob before I'd trust an un named bloke on twitter claiming to be an agent who has time to post on twitter during the busiest time of the year for agents.

West Ham have also done business since bidding for Carroll

I don't automatically believe any of them, but he's had a few names right well ahead of some of the better journos. Anyway, we'll see. I don't think him leaving will see a player coming in specifically to replace him, but his wages off the bill would give us some wriggle room...

Merseysideagent is a supporter. He is using info from stations like 90elf as they have a very solid track record and are usually up to a few weeks before the UK media on stuff. They were they first media outlet where I came across the Sahin to Liverpool or Arsenal story and that was back in July.

90elf also had the Hulk to Chelsea story months ago and well before any of the UK outlets even had a whiff of it. Pretty sure that I sent a pm to Gavredking a number of months ago about where I heard the Hulk story and mentioned 90elf to him after he asked me where I heard the story.

I reckon the likes of ADE and Lars1916 will know of 90elf and some of the other reliable German outlets, but for anyone that speaks German they are a really good source of footy news well before the British media starts to report on it as breaking news.

Just noticed that Sahin is not in the Livepool squad for fantasy football.

Fair enough, you'd wonder how a German outlet could be that far ahead of the local journalists and contacts. Maybe the clubs try harder to keep the locals out, to keep things quieter.

Anyway, since 90elf's twitter is in German, and not that frequent, I'll take my news second hand!

90elf has some very good links with a number of the larger scouting networks in Europe, and the knock on effect of that is links with the bigger football agents/agencies. They also do a lot of direct interviews with managers/players/scouts etc from all over Europe and have built up a very good rep in the past few years with the scouts/players/agents/clubs so they tend to get a lot of info early.

Another thing to keep in mind is that well over half of the players in the Premier league have agents that are not based in Britain, and that many of the guys in Britain that get praised for being great spotters of talent are actually using scouting companies from mainland Europe or individual independent scouts that specialise in certain leagues on the Mainland.

So quite often by the time a local British journo gets an "exclusive" the news had already hit the mainstream outlets in Germany, France, or Holland well beforehand.

I tend to listen to quite a bit of German and French radio each day just to keep myself in the habit of using the languages as I rarely get the chance to use them in Ireland or England, and I tend to listen to the sports stations more than any of the other stations.

It is also handy as you will get to hear the stations talking about up and coming talents and then you start watching out for those players and catching games that they are playing in.

Nothing new here from SSN but anyway.....

Owen Coyle has confirmed Bolton Wanderers are facing competition from 'bigger' clubs in the battle to sign Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing.

Sky Sports revealed on Tuesday that Bolton are one of five clubs keen on signing Spearing, who is considering his future at Liverpool following the recent captures of Joe Allen and Nuri Sahin.

A loan move or £3million permanent exit for Spearing has been mooted, with Premier League trio Aston Villa, Queens Park Rangers and Southampton also thought to be considering a bid for the 23-year-old.

Coyle remains hopeful of bringing the midfielder to the Reebok Stadium and is waiting to see if the Trotters will win the race before Friday's transfer deadline.

"It's more complicated than people think," said Coyle after Bolton's Capital One Cup defeat at Crawley. "It isn't just a case of going out and bringing him in.

"Jay Spearing is a very good player and there's a lot of competition for that lad's signature.

"All we can do is our very best, and we'll continue to do that.

"I can't say right now that he's going to sign tomorrow morning because there is huge interest in him from clubs much bigger than ourselves. We'll see what transpires."

AC Milan rule out Carroll approach

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has moved to dismiss the rumoured loan arrival of Liverpool striker Andy Carroll.

Carroll, 23, has been linked with Milan all summer, with press speculation both in England and Italy suggesting that the former Newcastle man would move to the San Siro on loan after failing to work his way into new manager Brendan Rodgers' long-term plans.

Galliani confirmed on Tuesday night that Milan had signed Roma's Bojan Krkic before denying the England striker - or indeed Real Madrid forward Kaka - would follow him into the club.

"Bojan is a good signing and with him we close the transfer market," he said. "Tomorrow [Wednesday] he will undergo his medical and he'll be available for this weekend's trip to Bologna.

"Carroll on loan from Liverpool? We have completed our selection of forwards and will not be buying any more. It's a pity Robinho got injured but we will wait for him. As for Kaka, there will be no trip to Madrid for further talks with Real."
