'The Thick of It' to return this Autumn

Malcolm Tucker is back, and about f***ing time too. After a hiatus of three years, The Thick of It returns for a new seven part series on BBC2 this Autumn.

An out-of-government Malcolm Tucker and the hapless Nicola Murray MP are set to return to BBC2 for a fourth series – the first since 2009 – with the corporation confirming it will be a case of art imitating life to reflect real-life changes in Westminster in the interim.

"This series takes The Thick of It into exciting and uncharted territory: a new coalition government, and Malcolm and Nicola fretting in the wings," said Iannucci, who dropped his second hint in as many months that the characters will have to contend with a public inquiry.

Brilliant! Fingers crossed this will be on form. Veep was a major disappointment. Nicola Murray is such an idiot though that you'd have to guess it's going to be good!

So it's based around Nicola et al in the opposition then? I'd heard mentions that it was going to be more about the former opposition (Peter Mannion and all them). As long as there's loads of Malcolm I don't mind!

The thing with Veep was that it was always going to be a little bit disappointing as soon as it was described as an American version of The Thick of It. It has its funny moments but it just isn't quite the same. I'm still going to watch the rest of the series.

Really glad to hear The Thick of It is back though, its been too long.

I only found out about it when I heard of the impending arrival of Veep on Sky Atlantic so I watched each episode of The Thick of It, well you can guess what Im going to say next. Easily one of the funniest shows I've ever watched, far too many gut wrenching laughs and quotable lines to even mention. Cant wait for the new series.

Though I think the criticism of Veep is a bit harsh. I actually really enjoyed the third episode (the latest shown on Sky Atlantic), I think it will grow as the show progresses, afterall the US Office had a fairly average first season and then the second and third seasons were pure gold.

I don't want to burst your bubble but I thought the third episode was quite good too and started to become hopeful that the show was going somewhere. However, they never rise above the 'insulted group of the week' storyline. At least with ITTOI there was an overall arc and you were at least running closer and closer to an inevitable resignation so it's fun seeing the dominoes falling into place but the format for Veep remains Veep makes dumb statement at start of episode, minority group become annoyed over said comment. Hilarity ensures (or doesn't). I think we all hoped for a strong finish for this show but I can certainly say for myself that I was left disappointed and unsatisfied.

That is a very poor timeslot. BBC2 should have it on midweek at 10pm. I am sure it has a loyal following, but there won't be many new viewers stumbling on the show at that time. Omnishambles.

Decent start to the series. Some excellent lines raised a smile but, one moment near the end aside, there wasn't much else there of note
