Apparently Arsenal have offered him 75K.
I can't see us going to 100K. That's the kind of money Suarez is on

Where is this 100k/week figure coming from? Arsenal aren't exactly known for handing out big contracts...

That may be part of the reason he wants to move. He's in the last year of his contract which usually means the saving made on a players fee end up in wages in the players pocket.

The other thing is while I rate Walcott quite highly let say instead of 15m + 100k if you took 20k out of his wages so you now have got 20m fee plus 80k wages and added another 5m on top for a fee. You'd have 25m + 80k wages for a player which would pretty much get you the very best talent anywhere in the world in his age group.

I'm not sure I like the idea of having a guy at only 22 already on 100k a week at the club. It's bound to cause problems down the line when some of our own kids start making a name for themselves.

    £60k per week max.

I think Rodgers has been pretty decent with money so far so I'd trust that he wouldn't offer Walcott stupid wages.

Been the number touted for a while now. Apparently he's on 60/65k and is looking for 100k. Arsenal, rightfully so, were only willing to go 75-80k.

If he rejected their offer then he is going to be all out looking for as close to 90-100k he can get, and I really wouldn't like to see him get it at Liverpool.

That said, if we manage to ship out Joe Cole and his 90k a case could be made...

Has there been any talk on here about the night Rafa has in Dublin talking about the CL nights, I'd love to head up to it.

    I posted earlier about it

    An 'intimate' evening.

    WTF

Apart from Walcott's wages (that's for LFC's finance people to worry about, not me).

Is he the player we want/need?

City are said to be interested in him too and we all know what kind of wages they pay

No because your could be potentially getting rid of one problem and creating another.

Yes he would be a good addition to the squad at the right price.

There's no way in hell Walcott is worth 100k a week

Agreed, I think Walcott only plays well in dribs and drabs, not consistent enough-

Other issue is he is English and fits into the quota we need. I wouldnt be a fan, and wouldn't be overally happy with him in starting 11-

If Walcotts agent didn't manage to get that out in the press then he would not be worth anything as an agent.

Newspaper calls agent - agent says City and Liverpool have expressed interest - Highest paying club wants your player, everyone else will have to pay more.

Walcott on a 100k? He can f#ck right off. I don't rate him, and don't think he will ever be a top player. Good maybe, but not 100k good. I'd rather invest the money wisely and not end up with another big contract on tripe like last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,775 ✭✭✭✭Gbear

City are the only team insane enough (or in their case rich to the point of wages being irrelevant) to pay him those kinds of wages and I imagine, just like Rodwell, that's purely because of the homegrown quota.

Unless he's really confident of City moving in he's playing a seriously stupid game.

I don't think Rodgers will give Walcott near the 80-100k, if he wouldn't give Siggurdsson (sp?) whatever Spurs were offering for a player he actually knew well, I doubt he'll give Walcott more than Arsenal are offering. He might try use the fact Walcott is a fan to his advantage and try sell him the 'system'!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 630 ✭✭✭gaelicred

    Hope htis is BS

Liverpool are likely to be more willing to push the financial package on offer to Walcott to something closer to £100,000 a week. They are the only club to register formal interest. (Telegraph)

    No to Walcott!

Walcott is a lot more proven than Gylfi. We really don't know what he's on at Spurs.

Also, we got Sahin instead of him, so it's all good..

If rogers wouldnt into sigs wage demand, a player he knew and worked with, I doubt hell be offering walcott that money.
Like others I'd like to see walcott signed, for the right money and wages of course.
A cf would be my priority but I'd still like to see borini up front and suarez on the wing.

Sterling-Suarez-Walcott could potentially be a pretty devastating attack, but it would require a step-up from all three.

i take it this quota system is a uefa mandate but is it legal in european law , freedom of movement and all . will we see a ruling ala bosman or has it passed any tests?

Walcott would be a quality addition. Value for money wise though....100k is an awful lot of money

It's legal because it's not based on nationality.

If the 12 million is true i would rather we spent that than 15 million on Sturridge

I think this system was agreed in consultation with the EU. It's not discriminatory based on nationality, it's discriminatory based on time served at clubs. Lots of EU (and non-EU) players qualify as homegrown English players.

Really? Sturridge is a big step down on Walcott

The Times saying Stoke are interested in Adam.

    Please, please, please, please, please.

No sense in keeping him here anyway as 7th choice central midfielder: Lucas, Allen, Sahin, Shelvey, Henderson and Gerrard will all be picked ahead of him for any of the 3 midfield positions imo.
