I'm a fan of Rodgers but there was something very David Brentish about that scene with Sterling.

I dont think its you who grasp that i do get that and i want the good work of releasing those players wages in turn given to better players, i dont want them hoovered up and covered up by excuses down the road a la 'well they didnt invest' or give Rodgers money. You should be asking those questions this window, not in 18 months. The chairman of your club told you on LFCTV that he wanted to increase the wages when all those names were still on the books. They have done nothing but reduce the wages significantly and increase turnover, the latter part great, the former not so.

Last year, when you strip out all exceptional items, we had an operating loss of around £34 million.

Since then we have increased turnover and reduced the wage bill. Both those things needed to happen, and hopefully by this stage our revenues and our costs have met in the middle and we are now profitable or at least breaking even.

There wasn’t an option to simply replace those players’ wages. We were paying salaries at a higher rate than we could afford. I really don’t care what Werner said about increasing wages, I’ll bet he had factored in CL qualification in order to make those wage increases feasible.

Nothing is being hovered up. It appears that 100% of what we bring in is being re-invested in the football club. The owners gave Kenny money to spend and let him maintain the wage bill at a very high level. Rodgers has had transfer money to spend too but has had to reduce the wage bill.

I think some people think they are prophets, heralding the news that we aren’t going to win the league with this strategy while the rest of us turn a blind eye to what’s going on.
Guess what? We all know we aren’t going to win the league in the next 5 years with this strategy, barring a miracle*. That doesn’t make this the wrong path, or even a bad path. People like to talk about Arsenal like the club is falling to pieces. If we are consistently finishing in the top 4 over the next 4/5 years I’d be absolutely delighted.

*Miracles do happen in football. We could hit the jackpot with Rodgers. The stars could align in our favour and Coates, Robinson, Shelvey, Henderson, Suso, Sterling, Allen, Borini could all go on to be top players and we could have a top team on our hands in 2/3 years when you add in the likes of Lucas, Suarez, Johnson, Reina, Agger and Skrtel who could all still be around about their prime.

*Unfortunately, I think a miracle is along the lines of what is needed in the PL these days. United have Ferguson. Arsenal have Wenger. Chelsea have spent £1bn under Roman. Man City have spent hundreds of millions under their owners.

The crux of the point is that no person in here imo can honestly say they were focused on balance sheets when those players signed. We need similar type players to come in or we will get nowhere, its that simple. If it doesnt happen you will get a domino effect like you see at Arsenal. Continuous and relentless selling of your best players in their prime.

We also have not spent that amount of money, if we have fair enough, i will go and make apologies for Ronnie Whelan, he gets slaughtered for stuff like that when he says Benitez spent 220m or whatever. We sold 75m worth of player plus alot of wages under Kenny also.

This summer we have got rid of 15m in annual wages and brought in around 8m to be paid. 3.6m of that 8m is 'hired staff' for 1 year only.

The only difference between me and some others is that im asking the questions now that you will be asking in 2 years. Thats my belief anyway and i will stand by it.

I don't think the accounts are as healthy as you think. Yep, we sold Torres but we don't have much to sell, seeing as we wasted a fair bit of our transfer spend or overpaid, Agger looks like he's staying, nobody will pay £20 Million for Carroll.

The club has spent over £25 Million this Summer, £35 Million last, contracts have to be renewed too which costs money. I'll wait till the accounts are out before reading too much into all this.

The unfortunate irony being that with the new stadium, with cl qualification, a great manager, everything you seem to want us to aspire to, they have achieved......

But how much debt was being put onto the club in them times? and how close were we to going into administration under H&G?
Is that really the road we want to go down again?

Christ no, I remember when RBS were on their way to shut us down at 1 stage.

I was being sarcastic. The sad face was the face that he was and still is a Liverpool player. Sooner he is shipped out the better along with little Jay.

The Arsenal model, as it is now, is on its knees in terms of cl qualification again. Arsenal are absolutely blessed to have such a great manager in Wenger. That man has actually produced miracles. But he has produced those miracles from the other end of the telescope, a team full of world cup winners right the way through until a few years back. The only thing saving them is Wenger. He is a genius to have achieved what he has and kept them in it (cl) for this long.

We arent coming from that angle and our manager does not have the respect built over as many years as Wenger to truly attract top class players. Joe Allen, and Sahin if you like, i believe are anomalies, that for all you know could have been swayed by Bellamy and Alonso. I dont know that as fact but there is documented stuff there to show their influence.

We have inexperienced owners of a football club, we have an inexperienced manager, we have an inexperienced man doing the deals for players. Thats where we are, thats it. It can dressed up in any way, mutton dressed as lamb is still mutton.

Ah yeh, maybe behind closed doors. But not sure we would have seen him call someone out like this. That sets the tone for everyone else as well...

Lol, have you access to Liverpool training files and manager methods.

What D'arcy knows about football you could fit on the back of a stamp.

Rafa sounds good though, promoting a website, says he wants to get back to management but it has to be the right offer.

Nothing really interesting: He's encouraged by Brendan Rodgers but will reserve judgement until end of season. Has had a few job offers (including Sampdoria) but is waiting for the right project.

    there wasn't much,

brief chat about the champions league, people calling him a legend and thanking him for the best night of their life. Little dig at the H&G era and a bit about offers he got recently to go back to managing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,872 ✭✭✭Dickerty

Spearing apparently of interest to a number of teams, including some Prems, so let's see who he chooses. It does look like he's off though.

Adam, on the other hand, is not attracting nearly as much interest. I wonder if we'll be stuck with him.

One reliable ITK says our Sturridge interest pre-dates the signing of Borini, so it may be that we are not really still chasing him. I can't see it unless Chelsea sign another striker, they would be screwed without Torres right now...

Both of us will have to include wages in any true assessment of where its going, you cant just not include them and just use gross xfer money. Torres and Mascherano's wages could have covered every player's wages Kenny brought in for all we know. All we can say with some fact really is that the wages have come down massively for the next 12 months. Thats great, but dont expect success off the back of it.

Off topic. Gotta laugh at Joey Bartons tweets. It looks like he is not going to Marseille.
