At the moment m'vila is a 50/50 to join as arsenal are unwilling to pay the price that rennes want, rangel is said to be the defender we are signing (but in my opinion is not good enough for arsenal). Llorente is supposedly pushing for the move to arsenal but again arsenal are unwilling to pay the amount bilbao want and walcott is expected to sign a new contract for around 85,000 a week but if he does not then he will be in a swap deal with daniel sturridge.rumour we are going to have a marquee signing and again i can not say which player it is because arsenal are keeping it completely under wraps.on the grapevine schweinstieger!!!

The papers and of course twitter will be full of marquee names as they think we have the RVP and Song money to use. I've seen Schweinsteiger, Llorente, Falcao mentioned this evening. Will we get any of them. Doubtful, very doubtful.

At the moment it's more likely we'll sign no one, especially if we're haggling over price on players that are in demand.

I think there will be a couple of new signings but I'll be very pleasantly surprised if any of them are of 'marquee' stature.

Has the price for M'Vila not been 17 mill for ages? I thought Rennes said that's the price and once it's met the lad can go wherever he wants.Maybe I'm wrong.

Id be of the same opinion really its not very often Wenger comes out and openly states he after players esepcially stating the positions that hes looking for.

Only problem is now that hes said hes looking for a DM well be linked with any player who can fit that description.

Just roll on Friday so its all done and dusted and hopefully with a few new additions.

Interesting change of philosphy from Wenger perhaps. After years of being much more inclined to go overseas to find talent it seems like the lack of loyalty a lot of these players bring with them has led him to realise the importance of buying British players. When you look at Arsenal's main rivals you can see he has a point. Gerard, Lampard, Terry, Scholes, Giggs and Ferdinand have all spent most of their career with the one club. Arsenal seem to be continually rebuilding.... be interesting to see how far he pursues this new policy....

The policy certainly has merit but the main problems are that English players are expensive and often not nearly as good. The other issue is that they're usually miles behind in tactical understanding of the game. Looking back Ferguson was lucky in many respects in that for years he had his pick of the best English talent as Wenger/Benitez and Chelsea's revolving door of managers preferred to shop abroad. It's a very tough market to find value in these days.

I'm not really sure what the Arsenal's Academy has been doing over the last while but Liverpool in the last few years under direction from Benitez have been trying to implement a policy of buying up the best English talent as young as possible with a view to producing English talent through the youth system which if it works makes them much more affordable. It also means if produced through your own Academy and thought by the right coaches they come out the other end with a proper tactical understanding of the game so it's a win win all around. Obviously this is a slow process as they are being brought into the club from 14/15. It will be a few more years before we can see the effects and if it has worked at Liverpool but the early signs do look good.

    Opr

you should get a job at the Daily Mail mate, thats 3 months work you've got there!

There reason there all going on about a marquee signing I cause wenger said he would spend up to 20m on the right special player
That fella who is always right on twitter said wenger is after someone who before thought he had no chance with but he does now

I couldn't care weather we sign a marquee signing or a dodgy 17yr old as long a the signing works out and makes the squad better. Very few players out there will make the team better but we need a few to bolster the squad

This could be the appropriate tactic against stoke. Play the high ball with a few dribble nut megs and they won't know what hit them!

The above rumour with Schweinsteiger; I don't bite for that one. We make a landmark signing and it's another midfielder? One that plays attacking and central, a position we probably have the most cover for at the moment? Ramsey, Arteta, Diaby, Cazorla, Rosicky, Oxlade Chamberlain, Wilshere could all play the Schweinsteiger role. Plus, there would've been some major rumblings in the jungle if that one were on the radar.

Any details on that source from twitter, emergingstar? That does sound interesting. If you look at the current market, it is pretty open in comparison to the options we had last year, and I'm guessing that the max Wenger would pay on a player would be near the 20 mill mark. Anything above, plus wages would not be in line at all.

But back to the point of the current market. There are a lot more talented players available to Arsenal for around that price and less now. I remember last year after we lost Mata, the transfer window got extremely cynical, from a fan's point of view. This season, I think the opposite has happened and we pretty much could bid for anyone. I think, Wenger's liberal (not the right word, but close) spending in the market this summer has proved this. I certainly think we'll be seeing one, may be two more signings. But bums need to be shifted first. Seriously, what's the craic with Bendtner? For all the teams that have been spouted as in showing interest in senor green jocks, nothing's really floating yet. And I don't think Wenger's holding out for a high price either.

Forwards better be on form today - We will concede at least 2 with him in goals

Up early can't wait for the game and this completely changes it

On the other hand a good showing could make his Arsenal career. It could equally be his last game for Arsenal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,032 ✭✭✭Soups123

Stoke away you really need your first choice keeper and centre backs. Mannone is was too flappy and unsure for this one

    We'll need goals

Well what a bad way to start the Arsenal day, I hope he is ready for some arial bombardment....

I think the Ox could be the man for the winner today, some nice link up play with Cazorla or a good shot, we haven't scored a decent strike since Artetta against city last year iirc.

Would just love to see us throw off the shackles today and win by a few goals, hopefully the new players are settling in well now after the game last week and a good weeks training.

Vermaelen and Mert to boss the box for corners and long balls and Mannone to hang back. Bould was astute with this in his playing days, so hopefully they'll show some experience from training.

I have some confidence in Mannone, it's his awareness that's pretty crap. He pretty much over compensates for bad decision making. He'd be a good enough keeper if he was alert to making the right decision.

How we attack is what I'm looking forward to. Cazorla has the experience to show that winging the ball isn't the only option. If Podolksi's in better form than last week, he can slot in from the wing and provide a combination with Giroud. Arteta to hold centre with either Diaby/Ramsey falling back. I'd say Walcott will start, go at them fast from the beginning and try and control the pace. But, I expect to see a lot from Cazorla, he'll pretty much determine how we'll attack, I think.

the papers are going with tiote & some are even mentioning cabaye

tiote makes more sense & would be a v.good signing - no waiting to see if he can adapt to PL football etc.

also stoke fans are planning the worlds largest 'do the wenger' or something like that its called

Podolski and Theo/Gerv on the wings today with Giroud up top would be my preference.
