Still, 15 million for a out and out quality player including wages isnt that bad is it?
Especially if he helps push you up the league

The cost of Sahin is creeping up by the hour.
Before I get up tomorrow morning Liverpool will have sold Suarez to finance the Sahin loan deal the way things are going.

I've lived there for a considerable amount of time too and still in regular text contact with several people from there and have never received an x in my text from any of them but carry on and generalise the entire southern half of your nation if you so wish

Perhaps I don't justify myself semantically. I never intended to imply the whole south of the UK does this, only trying to suggest that it happens down here, or certainly in the age range I experience mostly (16-19/20).

My apologies if I was unclear.

Let this be the last post on the subject in here, this is a football thread after all, not a sociology one.

15 million for one season of a player who couldn't get anywhere near the Real lineup is insane. 15 million is about what I'd expect the chap to go for in a full-on transfer.

Not that I believe that's the figure for a second, but 15 million for one year is the equivalent of signing a player for £30m and giving him a five year deal on £175,000 a week.

Just before everyone jumps in, can it be remembered that he earns a reported £115,000 a week at Real Madrid which equates to £6m a year or nearly €8m.

Source? We're paying 70% of his wages with no loan fee confirmed yet? The stumbling block for Arsenal seemed to be that they wanted an option to buy included.

Source is like anyone else, internet and news feeds, cannot remember exactly who but it is the top end of what was put out there for the deal......
A loan fee is a certainty,in no way will Madrid allow any player off with no fee, that would be madness,2-5 million being put about.
10-15 million all in is far too much for a loan deal who will outshine every midfield at Liverpool then trot off back to Madrid happy out while Liverpools midfield still has a hole in it...

I think there's other areas of the team that need more urgent strengthening than that pos tbh.

I've lived in south England all my life, I know full well that it happens down here.

Not that this is relevant to the thread.

A lot of things happen in Wycombe that I would not be shouting about :pac:

Explain so why some Arsenal fans are pulling stupid figures out about how much Sahin cost when reputable news agencies are saying much less

Did you not think of asking them ? I would have thought the reason was fairly obvious.

Cannot understand the size of the Fletcher fee. It looks almost Andy Carrollesque.

I'd be concerned about the amounts that Sunderland and QPR are spending. Doesn't look sustainable.

While on the subject of money, where are Sunderland getting the money from to sign Fletcher/Johnson?

In the past few seasons we've sold Henderson for a huge profit, Bent for a decent profit, made our money back on Gyan and got rid of very high earners who were surplus to requirements (some of them for a fee) such as Gordon, Malbranque, Turner, McCartney, Ferdinand, Zenden, Riveros and Da Silva. The vast majority of those players were all on very big wages (in some cases frighteningly big) and the lesser amount of turnover spent on wages combined with the money made on sales over the last while means we're in a far stronger position financially.

It might look like we're splashing a lot of money this summer after todays spending but either way our accounts will be in a much stronger position than they probably have ever been. We're now signing two or three quality players rather than six or seven above average players.

Well, all of that and our owner Ellis Short having a net worth of around £3.3bn helps too :pac:

Carroll was nearly 3 times more expensive than Fletcher(reported 12m).imo not comparable at all.

Any idea why Sahin is going to Liverpool and not Arsenal with CL football?

Wenger seemed to hint something about money?

It's been back and fourth between us and arsenal for over a week with both teams in pole position at times. Then arsenal had it sewn up and wanted a buy out deal and pay less of his wages. Real didn't want it so it appears he's coming to us as well pay more of his wages with no option to buy, although I think BBC are still running with the story that the option will be there, whatever I'm just delighted he might be with us for the season :D

I think everyones generally happy about it including himself, im sure some people will say he didn't want to come here atall but if he didn't, he simply wouldn't come here and stay in Madrid/seek other moves.

Not sure - Some fees undisclosed.

It's the recurring costs of the wages that would concern me more.

And then they get tonked 5-0 at home...

The £5m fee was mentioned by some Arsenal fan who sounded bitter about losing Sahin and seemed to get a load of details incorrect/contradict each other.

So Everton are said to be close to signing this Niang kid even though AC Milan, Man City and Arsenal are supposedly interested, what's the story with that?
