    When were these times?

First time he played was against West Ham a few years back. We won 4-0. Second time was the week after away to Wolfsburg, we won 3-1.

He played against Barcelona on the pre-season tour, which we drew 0-0. He played against that Shanghai team and Valerenga as well I think. We won the first and drew the second.

The only one that I can think of that we lost in which he played at centre-back was the Everton. In that he was marking a 6'4/5 player who had one of his best ever games.

    1 game in 6 isn't a majority.

Against Villa, Fulham and Blackburn as Homer already pointed out.

    Spot on.

That argument is the life jacket for fans defending any bizarre Fergie decision.

Does anyone else remember Berba's stint at centre-back? He could do a job there against Fulham :pac:

There are a lot of pro's and con's to sending Wootton in there on Saturday..it's at home, he's a CB, opposition not of highest standard. Having said all that, we lost the opener and maybe SAF is a bit hesitant..its hard to understand really. Anyway I'd see no reason why he should not be on the bench at least, but looking at the squad listed above it doesn't look like it..

Sorry dude, but I do not accept that. It's a cop out (not from you but from Fergie). It's the classic defence of the indefensible (i.e. "you don't know what you're talking about - I'm the great manager".

Centre half is a specialist position. If you need a centre half, is the right decision to opt for a guy who plays in a completely different position and who has an at best questionable record in the handful of games he's played at centre half? Or is to choose a "mature apprentice" who is a specialist centre half and who has spent all his admittedly short career honing his skills in that position?

Sometimes football seems devoid of logic and common sense. Playing Carrick instead of Wooton and Rafael instead of Pogba were ridiculous decisions. They're howlers and make no sense at all. Even if the results were good, they'd still be mad decisions but the sad thing is they proved calamitous.

For a start the Wootton, the guy you talk about as a specialist Centre Half has played as a holding midfielder during his Peterborough loan.

I am not saying its a case of SAF is always right of always knows best. To go over old ground, Pogba was not coming into a settled team. He would have played in an unbalanced side. He was unproven and had no place in the team against Balckburn at OT when he never started any game before.

In this scenario its clear that Wootton should play tomorrow - if he is ready and able. He should not be picked if he is not ready to play.

I forgot you worked closely with Pogba and Wootton.

It must be great to see them train and develop during training with the first team and during games.

You must have had that chance to be able to suggest you know better than the coaches and the manager. Right?

Meh.. just another angle on it (no pun intended).

Changes in football forced it that way. It not a bad thing just a fact of football.

Need to get myself to OT this year, or even a away game. Haven't been since that epic 3-2 win over AC in the champions league. Been meaning to go for the last few seasons.

Expensive old trip ain't it? I'm heading to City at home this year. Always have attended that game and the Chelsea ones. Always got great seats too. Can't beat it really, but I do be living on beans for a month afterwards!

Yeah, I was thinking about going to City away as its the day before my birthday, and will probably get moved to the 9th, or else early on the Saturday but I'd imagine getting tickets would be hard as ****.

This thread is after getting dragged out and has evolved since I posted in it but going by the last few posts I don't understand why we just don't play 3 at the back?

We are at home, against Fulham who are decent but you would expect us to beat them and control the game from the off.

So why not just play 3 at the back? I think that any manager has to play the squad he has at that current moment and not play the formation. And if we have only one experienced CB so be it.

Surely the players are good enough to adapt?

The same Fulham who won 5-0 last week! :pac: Risky tactics but could be fun! :D

It takes a few games to adapt to a new formation usually . Id love to see it but wed want to have tried it during preseason at least .

Yes but they weren't playing United at OT who surely will have the bit between their teeth after Monday night?

I don't really buy into this tbh. There all highly paid professional footballers. The emphasis of the game still remains the same regardless of what formation you play.

Wouldn't be surprised to see something like this tomorrow.

    De Gea
    Rafael
    Carrick---Vidic
    Evra
    Cleverley----Anderson

    Kagawa
    -Valencia
    Rooney

    Van Persie

Just realised this is my first post here, long time lurker but just got permission to post in the forum today. :)

Rooney and Rvp would rotate positions I guess . Like they did the other night Nani Rooney & Rvp all swapped positions .

Not particularly on the left wing, just kinda behind Van Persie to the left. I just think that if Kagawa plays tomorrow it won't be in a 4-4-2 formation, It would have to be a 4-3-3 in my opinion.

Anyone think that Kagawa should be a guaranteed starter if he keeps playing the way he played against Everton?

I doubt De Gea would be a fan of that
