I knew this argument was coming up. I'm not taking about business case, net profit, blah blah blah. I'm simply stating money spent, from wherever you get it. You said you have NO money. If you indeed had NO money you wouldn't have been able to spend any.

Organising your personal finances at the end of the month must prove a significant on going challenge!

I really cant understand how people dont use net spend when looking at transfers. Its the only logical way of looking at things. If you have to generate money to spend by selling then you dont have money to spend in the first place do you?

Was not talking about Net, I just put it in with the gross figures in case anyone tried to muddy things with talk of gross or net.

I know but the mere mention of the phrase evokes painful memories of this place 12 months or so ago.

That's fair enough, nothing wrong with that. It's when people try to use net spend to justify spending €35m on Andy f*cking Carroll that it takes the piss.

Yeah I dont really see that much from the logical posters who arent on the wind up. Most recognise they clearly overpaid.

Its just when you get someone coming in saying you spent a **** load but ignore that they had to sell just as much to be able to bring in players.

Eh, what would net spend have to do with Carroll? How would someone go about using net spend to justify spending £35m on Andy? I'm actually interested in this one and since you've heard it before surely you can elaborate?

I think he means the, "Torres + £15million" phrase which I think was banded about when he was signed.

Fair enough but it's hardly a justification for spending £35m on him based on net spend.

The other thing about net spend as addressed in this thread is it's only half the story as it doesn't take into account the other half - wages.

The scottish league and the olympics are not places i would judge a player. Suarez looked like a sunday league footballer in the Olympics.

He actually hasn't stared in the SPL, when Celtic have a fully sit squad he doesn't make the first 11, but that is because of the nature of teh SPL, he will be a star in the premiership, extremely technically gifted and equally adept with either foot.

He was outstanding in the Olympics and tbh Suarez looks like a Sunday league footballer a hell of alot more often than in the Olympics!

£12million seems a lot but hardly surprising these days, he is a few years younger than I thought he was though.

How much they are willing to pay for Johnson will be interesting.

Apparently £10m has been the accepted offer from a couple of clubs.

That's not bad, hope Sunderland don't get him then. Even worse that Newcastle let him go as a kid.

Rumours are that he would like to move to Newcastle if possible. They have bid along with Sunderland, Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham. Everton seems to be ruled out, with Liverpool and Tottenham favourites. Of those two I'm guessing Liverpool would suit him more.

To be honest I don't want Newcastle to spend 10m on him because we're strong enough in midfield. Rather spend that money on Debuchy.

He's a decent player but vastly overrated. Very hit and miss. However, I do not want him to prove me wrong in a Sunderland shirt :D

If we signed Sahin I can't see us going after Johnson or Johnson coming to us.

I agree, I don't think Newcastle need him. He had several discipline problems at City over the past year, but as he was an English International the media didn't report it. He gained quite an ego after his first season with City and contiually broke curfew to attend openings etc. Hence Mancini would only give him 25 minutes of a game until he showed maturity. He wants to be first team and he wants the glory. When he does play properly though he is a fantastic asset, but he has been far too inconsistant and underperforming in big games.

I thought he would be high on your list due to the lack of wing options there.

Some would say they are completely different players and one coming shouldn't effect the other....

He'll be on the bench if he does come here so I can't see him leaving City bench just to sit on our one. Strikers our higher on our list than wingers.

Totally different players, why would one effect the other?Would liverpool not have the budget for both?

If Sahin signs will most likely mean that Gerrard will be pushed into the front 3 on the right had side. We'll line up like this

    Allen-Lucas-Sahin
    Gerrard-Suarez-Borini

Johnson isn't good enough to get into that team and as I said he wouldn't come here to be on the bench. We would if Johnson was going to be a starters but our budget isn't huge so we'd be far likely to filter the Johnson money into a striker if we're looking for one.

You're playing CM on the right and a striker on the left? As opposed to having a naturally wide player that can play on both. Your starting line up included Downing out wide did it not?

Gerrard is not a CM .. he just needs to be told that since Rafas gone .
