    .
Manchester United's newest recruit - young Dutch left-back Alexander Buttner - wasn't the best the Premier League giants could get, even in the relatively minor Dutch first division!

That's reportedly the bizarre confession by scout Ed van Stijn, who heads up United's talent-spotting operation in the Netherlands.

Van Stijm has admitted that last season Buttner was only the third or fourth best left-back in the Eredivisie.

Van Stijm told Dutch newspaper Algeman Dagblad: "Every season United ask all European scouts for a list of players. They ask you to create a top-five of the best players in the league for every position.

“I had Buttner at number three or four on my list."

Hardly a glowing recommendation. Like being named 'third or fourth least irritating person in Big Brother'.

Imagine how big the Tommy Docherty / Mary Brown story would be if it happened today?

For younger posters, United manager was sacked for having an affair with the physio's wife (he was allegedly sending yer man off on courses etc and with junior teams so he could take care of business).

Oddly enough, Docherty and Ms Brown have been together ever since (circa. 35 years).

Id say he wouldn't be sacked these days tbh.

There seemed to be some conflicting reports today about what the scout said. One report suggested criticism while another suggested praise.

If he did make those disparaging remarks, he should be out on his ear in my view.

Probably misquoted/mistranslated. Wasn't there another version of that where he said pretty much the opposite posted the other day?

They were cut from a different cloth back then. He was good with the jokes too, although it will be a long time before we can use this aginst City again

Tommy Docherty joke: “There are three types of Oxo cubes. Light brown for chicken stock. Dark brown for beef. And light blue for laughing stock.”

Hopefully, just seemes to be a pattern developing is all, Rene speaking out a couple of times, now a scout, just find that stuff odd. Never happened in the past.

Hopefully I am seeing something out of nothing, and that he is mis represented or he should be sacked imo, you simply cant speak publicly about a player like that

Anymore being said about the Herrera chap? Can't really find anything concrete on any interest in him.

    @Markc1184. Yup

Utd now trying to hijack a Liverpool move for a MF.

Shame the source is the Sun or I could have a nugget of hope.

The way i see it is he seems pretty good going forward by his scoring rate. That is an improvement on Evra well wouldnt take much to improve on Evra's end product. Evra has been so poor defensively for awhile he needs to be dropped imo. This new signing seems hungry which Fergie will love and will only improve at United.

Someone didn't do tech drawing at school :)
That's a really poor effort at a parallel line.

I don't think the scoring stats are the main priority of our LB

If it's watermarked @FootyMemes then take is as a sub-par joke.

I never said they were the main priority i said he offers a threat going
forward. Evra bombs forward and nearly everytime hits the first man when crossing the ball. Then he strolls back alot of the time leaving us under pressure. He has been doing this for too long. Last season he played nearly every game when he needed to be dropped. Evra was brilliant years ago but has been a liabaility for awhile now. Just strange when people use every excuse to knock someone like Carrick and people rarely question Evra. Evra has got lazy he was rightly dropped by France and i hope Fergie does the same. Would love the old Evra back and the best way to do this is to give him a challenge.

I hate using the Daily Fail as a source for anything at all, even the weather, but this is the first sighting that I've seen all summer of Ezekiel Fryers. Apparently he's off to Standard Liege.

According to the article he trained with Spurs during the pre-season.

All sense of reality deserts the article only a few lines after that with their claim that United want £6 million for him.

If this is true he's just throwing his career away for a bit of money. Moving to Spurs would be alright but there's no sense in moving to a team who came fourth in the Belgium league last season.

He impressed me whenever I saw. He probably wasn't good enough to nail a first team spot but if he had waited a few months he'd see how desperate we got with Robbie Brady having to play there a few times.

This is all probably a load of bollicks.

Is it true that Tom Huddlestone is joining Stoke on loan?

No way in hell you got an infraction for simply linking to The Sun

Seems to be. Harry Kewell was spotted there as well. A bit of a revolution is under way in Stoke it seems.

Jesus, Huddlestone would not be a bad addition either since he available, Kewell not so much. He will be a bad signing for someone if he comes back to England alright though

He'd be a nice one alright. Great passer of the ball and has a sweet shot. Riddled with injuries last season though it seems and only made 4 appearances. Probably part of the reason he's heading out.

Was sure that Kewell had retired. He's still young enough. Only 33. Thought he was much older.

Ah, so it wasn't simply for linking to The Sun! (We shouldn't really be discussing moderation on thread either tbh) So lets leave it there :)

    Sure we love sicknotes! :)

Yeah he had a terrible season injury wise last year, but certainly worth a punt imho if available.

Any central midfielder is worth a punt at this stage.

Spurs have a few midfielders i would like. Really like Sandro cant understand how he is not first choice. Think he is a serious player.

Carvalho to qpr on season long loan with our injuries I don't see why we shouldn't be in for him
