I'd personally prefer to win the trophy that is a higher standard, more difficult to win, has more prestige attached to it and offers a higher prize for doing so.

You can disagree if you want... you know... if you're stupid.

    No, just no

Also, prestige is kinda a funny thing, currently the CL is very prestigious yes, few years back the FA cup was one of the most prestigious trophies too

The league is the most difficult competition to win, you have to be consistent for 38 games , not just turn up for a couple of two legged ties and a one off final, luck can be quite a huge factor in the cups whereas it has less effect in the league due to the longer period it is played over.

The CL as it is now has become pretty diluted in all fairness, the group games can be some of the most boring matches to watch on the planet so the higher standard you speak of is going down each year too. Which is a shame, as the competition can be brilliant once you get the groups out of the way.

The league is the trophy I want each and every year, I want to be known as the best team domestically, europe is a bonus, it can be a lottery. Were Chelsea the best team in Europe last season? **** no but they won the trophy, were City the best team in England? Yep, Madrid the best in Spain? Yep.

Calling me stupid for wanting to win the league more then the CL every season is a bit much no?

The majority of regulars at OT value Europe more, nobody can convince me otherwise of this. Since Matt Busby, United and the European cup have been intwined in emotion. There can be no question of which Alex values more either.

Its true and an interesting point to discuss why they do.

Most supporters including myself think the EPL is the number one priority but the CL is what defines the global pedigree of a club so I can see the attraction. Its the world cup of club football, its where the best of the best mix it and generally the team that wins the CL are looked upon as the best club side currently. There have been a few exceptions of late, Chelsea, Inter and Pool.

Winning your domestic league is great, it establishes you as a power in your home country but the CL makes everybody take notice. Pre Pep, Barca were not as prestiguous as they are now. As it stands they are pretty much the favourites for La Liga and the CL each year. The best in the world and some say the best ever. Thats what CL glory brings you.

If Utd had won both CL finals against Barca I have no doubt we would be hailed as one of the greatest teams of modern times, we would not have been hailed as the best ever, that was due to the Barca style as much as success but we would have been the first club to win it twice in a row since the format change. It would have been logical to look at us the top club in europe if we added those two titles, instead it was out of the europas last season.

It defines your history that little bit more. Fergie has gone about it correctly though. He puts equal importance on both. Both times we won it in recent times we have won the leauge also and both lost finals we won the league afair. You need a very solid sqaud to win the CL so it usually lends itself to League success.

Its the EPL for me but damn I would have loved it if we now had 5 CL's just to see when we get 6 CLs what comebacks the pools fans for the best English club.

PL for me, but I understand why people would choose CL.

Both are great to win, but 99% of time best team wins the league. Cant say same for CL.

Liverpool were not even the best team in Liverpool in 05, and Chelsea not best team in London last season.

I would though say that United should have at least 1 if not 2 CL in the last 10/15 years.

As a once off the CL final is bigger then any game in league, but I dont find myself really getting excited about United in CL until or if they get to semi final stage.

Mark Ogden wrote on the Telegraph site that (based on United sources) United 'will not entertain' any offers for Nani or Hernandez.

Hernandez agent said Chica wants to stay at United.

Nani has not yet agreed a new contract but has been assured he is still a key part of Fergusons's plans.

United are looking to sell ot loan, Berbatov, Macheda and Berba.

If we manage to sell him twice, it'll be good business.

DM-ICE was clearly referring to two distinct commodities:

    - Berbatov the player who's worth £5m based on Sunderland's recent offer.

    - Berba the Duke of Cool's image rights which are worth £50m based on Warner Brothers' recent offer to make a movie about him.

If it happened at Old Trafford we'd have 2 pages of whingers complaining about United bias.

Oh but did you not know its only Manchester United who get all the referee decisions go their way.

By the "neutrals" we should have 3 players sent off every game. Any challenge that Scholes seems to make is Leg Breaking straight red all the time these days.

Just as I thought, your two days of snide remarks comment was rubbish. Most of those are from Tuesday and the rest out of context and not close to snide and other not even from me. Maybe your easily offended and I'll take that into account the next time I make light of the threads meltdown. There has been some over the top stuff but good banter also in the last cople of days, its only you tht felt the need to go on the defensive and drag up my post history. Anyway I'm done with it.

Utd will score an offside goal at some stage this season and it will stand. What's with all the moaning? Is it everyone's time of the month at the one time?

Im just posting a pic because some people won't have seen it.

Also, it's football, people moan and complain every single day of the week.

yes we will, but the difference is if/when it happens, there will be world war 3 on places like here with people moaning about how united get all the decisions, yet nothing is said when other clubs get them or more to the point, when clubs get them against united.

there is a huge amound of hypocrisy and double-standards when it comes to decisions for/against united.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,886 ✭✭✭MoscowFlyer

That's because we are challenging for trophies every single year. If we weren't there really wouldn't be a huge fuss. If people get upset about some calls this season then it means we must be challenging!

All that proves is more people dislike us than anyone else, which proves we must still be doing something right. I love it personally when droolers get all irate at us.

2 penos against chelsea spring to mind!

Oh and looks like Sky have changed the "Aquergooooooooooooooo" ad
    for "Fellainiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii"!

    :p

Never mind eh, shame that the most respected and long serving manager who bought you 19 titles isnt enough for some people!

It's a product of lazy analysis.

"United get loads of penalties at Old Trafford" - Eh, because we're generally attacking so statistically we're destined to get more penalties.

"Fergie Time" - Eh, teams take time wasting to epic levels when they're at Old Trafford. Fergie just highlights this and the officials have to do the right thing and play a fair amount of extra time. It's hilarious too listening to revisionist historians claiming that Brucey's header vs Wednesday involved some kind of chronological skulduggery - Eh, the ref was injured and carried off.

A Chelsea fan talking about titles being bought, now there's irony ;-)

That 115 year wait for our first title in 1993 must have been tough on the faithful...Big Ron could have been the man if we'd kicked on in '85
