Its true and an interesting point to discuss why they do.

Most supporters including myself think the EPL is the number one priority but the CL is what defines the global pedigree of a club so I can see the attraction. Its the world cup of club football, its where the best of the best mix it and generally the team that wins the CL are looked upon as the best club side currently. There have been a few exceptions of late, Chelsea, Inter and Pool.

Winning your domestic league is great, it establishes you as a power in your home country but the CL makes everybody take notice. Pre Pep, Barca were not as prestiguous as they are now. As it stands they are pretty much the favourites for La Liga and the CL each year. The best in the world and some say the best ever. Thats what CL glory brings you.

If Utd had won both CL finals against Barca I have no doubt we would be hailed as one of the greatest teams of modern times, we would not have been hailed as the best ever, that was due to the Barca style as much as success but we would have been the first club to win it twice in a row since the format change. It would have been logical to look at us the top club in europe if we added those two titles, instead it was out of the europas last season.

It defines your history that little bit more. Fergie has gone about it correctly though. He puts equal importance on both. Both times we won it in recent times we have won the leauge also and both lost finals we won the league afair. You need a very solid sqaud to win the CL so it usually lends itself to League success.

Its the EPL for me but damn I would have loved it if we now had 5 CL's just to see when we get 6 CLs what comebacks the pools fans for the best English club.

If it happened at Old Trafford we'd have 2 pages of whingers complaining about United bias.

That's because we are challenging for trophies every single year. If we weren't there really wouldn't be a huge fuss. If people get upset about some calls this season then it means we must be challenging!
