In work, first mistake of the day buy that rag the Irish sun, don't even read any of the sections on Arsenal the scare mongering headlines were enough to make me angry.
The way some people go on about us you'd swear we were gonna get relegated!!! Garbage talk of the highest order were in with a great shout of silverware this season especially the Champions Lge

Unless its the champs league or league, we don't need sliver wear
It might shut the papers up but top 4 comes before them it should be

    Champs league
    League
    Top 4
    Fa cup
    League cup
Kinda disagree there, I know how important a top 4 finish is but I think if we could just win a bit of silverware even the lge cup it will give us the taste and hunger to kick on and win more!

I just want us to lift a cup I really think Lè Gaffér deserves it to shut some of his critics up.

So you would rather liverpools season last year to ours
    No thanks
Obviously not that would be a complete disaster, but im just so desperate for us to win something its not much to ask for, for a club of our stature.

Watched a few clips there of Sunday supplement on Sky Sports news and the 3 journalists on it painting a picture of Armageddon at Arsenal if Theo Walcott leaves, absolute garbage they were talking, saying the players we brought in this summer arent good enough, clowns!!

Top 4 and a cup would do nice

Maybe but didn't that situation give Wenger more bargaining power. 15m seems very cheap to me.

It is very cheap but there's no point in having a protracted transfer trying to get more shillings out of one of the 'richest' clubs in the world. We saw this with Cesc and their first bids, see how long that went on for. Plus if Song's attitude has been that of a gigantic pricl then there's no point having him hang around. So for a first actual bid of £15 mill, it's not too bad when you consider Barca's first bid for Cesc.

He's gone, time to move on and forget about it. 2 new players and ship out the other waste on the bench. Hopefully we've removed the dressing room vitriol now.

In the great words of John Donne -

Tiote would be a good replacement.

probably cost all the 15m though.

Couldn't see Pardew getting rid of him this late and we'll probably be quote an extortionate price. Plus he's young so if he was to become a beast player he'll pretty much fcuk off in a season or 2.

Reports Sahin has accepted Arsenal and deal is almost 100% done with Real.

Delighted to hear but if yesterday shows us anything, it's that we need a decent wing alternative to Walcott, who (for the 50 millionth time ARSNE!!!) is only of use when counterattacking.

Maybe with Sahin in, Santi can go wide.

    Arteta - Sahin
    Ramsey
    Carzola - Pod
    Giroud

Very capable on the ball that lot. No headless chicken wingers.

And prob wilshere to take over from Ramsey for the big games at the end of the season
That line up is stronger to last season

I was going to proposition having the Ox wide because of Santi's defensive capabilities and winning the ball back, but after consideration I think he would be better deployed in Walcott's position. Provide more than just crosses and he's a whole lot more capable of providing more cover on the wing than Walcott. I've lauded him for seasons but in retrospect he hasn't improved much over the past 2/3 seasons. I don't know if it's attitude or what but he's in a position now where his performance will dictate his role at Arsenal. A **** attitude will get you nowhere as seen this summer. Of course this is all speculation on my part.

With regards to the Liverpool rumours, anyone think he'll jump ship? Big mistake imho, he's got great potential and should be showing that, especially for his age. Many more years ahead.

IMO Walcott's been all wrong for Arsenal and Arsenal have been wrong for him.

He should have gone to a typical premiership team and practised two things

1: Beating the man out wide and crossing
    2: Coming inside and shooting

The notion that because of his pace we could turn him into Henry mark II was incorrect.

Personally I think Wenger's too loyal to him. If we've options there when Sahin comes(still if I guess) and when Wilshire's back, then Walcott goes to the bench for me.

Let the players with craft open up the parked bus and get the first goal. Walcott comes on somewhere around 65 mins to play against a tired and attacking full back.

He won't like it but sadly he's not good enough to be a starter for us.

    Couldn't agree with you more.

The above in bold is my biggest issue with him. I don't know if it's a tactical plan or what, because his left foot to be honest is pretty dire when it comes to shooting. I'd keep him on the left for that, which raises the point, why have a right winger if they can't provide a good shooting ratio with both feet?

Also, it would be great to have him on the bench for the final third of the game but, for Walcott, I think it's a waste of cash and time. He's been at the club longer than other players which means he should be able to command his position 100%. Something I have not seen for a while. I don't want to discredit him too much but there are better wingers that can provide more than just running to the end line and hoofing it in or looking for a corner.

Maybe he's currently writing another childrens' book and that's probably the distraction :p in his play

Yeah, I think he's pretty much gone. Hope it goes well for him. He could've been an Arsenal great but whatever happened to him happened. C'est la vie.

Eggsellent. Btw, has he declared himself for Germany or is he plying his trade internationally with Turkey?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,608 ✭✭✭✭cson

    Turkey.

Edit: Sahin is welcome, still think we need a couple more signings. I see Mirallas is gone to Everton, he seemed like the ideal player to add some depth up top which is disappointing. RB I'm a little more confident of now - Jenkinson played well yesterday. Still think he could do with a loan somewhere though.

BBC reporting the Sahin story now. Looks like we have him.
I wonder will that be it? Or will a replacement for either Song and RVP will be brought in?

More than likely that'll be that.

Still think we're a little short in places though - over the course of a season we need ~18 players we can consistently depend on. We have ~15 at the minute.

We need a goal scorer more than anything. Where are the goals going to come from?

Im optimistic that our forward line will get the goals we need. They did look a bit rusty and out of sync yesterday but they should gel in time. Van Persie isnt the bee all and end all of getting goals for Arsenal.

Where are you getting this from? Id find that fee very hard to believe seeing how Real Madrid are reluctant to sell him.

Giroud, Podolski Cazorla. With a good supporting cast including Walcott, Ox and Gervinho. i'm not too worried about goal-scoring.

As I've said before yesterday was basically a pre-season game in terms of the preparation the players have had. Players need more time together before we can start making judgements on them.

Yes,we've bought two forwards, doesn't make any sense to buy another. Nobody is going to jump in and net you 30 goals in a season, it's all going to take time.

Thats only about £6m isnt it? A bargain if he even has a half decent season.

Brilliant news if we've gotten Sahin and with a perm option.

Overall I thought the game yesterday was relatively promising. On the positive side, I thought we controlled the game and looked organised, and Arteta as usual was classy and efficient. Cazorla looks like he's going to be a brilliant player for us. While I would have liked him to get involved more, most of things he did were excellent. He's so intelligent and economical on the ball, great ability to pick the right option, and he's not just one of those stat players who's always passing it backwards.

Giroud looked more of a natural fit in attack for us than Poldi but it's far too early to draw conclusions. I don't think either was particularly fit and our attack is still reshaping itself. One early moment where Walcott played a ball to Podolski and the German ran forward leaving it behind him was a pretty obvious example; Theo's used to van Persie receiving it and putting in behind for him, and Podolski isn't used to that role (and probably won't perform it for us, to be fair).

Negatives; well it looks like it'll take us a while to figure out the new shape of the team and we're probably not going to the bridge the gap between City/United this season. Not sure about our wide options but maybe Sahin & Wilshere's return will facilitate using Cazorla wide. Still, we look a good side; far better than the team which opened this time last year.
