Song proves himself to be yet another mercenary. Fuck him, if he's not proud to wear our crest on his chest he can piss off to Spain to rot and regress like many Arsenal mercenaries have done before him.

But it's great that Wenger has brought in 3 players who won't use us as a stepping stone to a bigger club, 4 if you count Arteta.
That's the dressing room free of any bad influence too (not sure about arshavin yet lol).

I can only hope its circa £20m for Alex Song and we simply have to get a replacement in that's defensively minded. Coquelin is too young to have that burden lumped on him.

Frankly this is frigging insane and I just cannot see the logic in it.

The next 4 pages will be whinging and whining that Arsene has lost the plot letting him go.
He didn't have a choice, Song wants to leave.
He's not this loyal backbone you all thought.
If Wenger brings in another great, if he doesn't he knows best.

Agreed if we don't sell now and he runs down his contract

Disappointing not to score at home to Sunderland but in terms of the amount of time the players have had together this was still a pre-season match. Understanding between the players will come the more they play together.

Nor me. We seem to give players away to Barcelona. No wonder they keep calling. We are their Aldi.

we were very rusty and don't look fully prepared which isn't surprising given our pre-season preperation.

seen enough green shoots there to suggest we'll be solid, but we could do with 3 more players of decent quality in the squad. one full back, one CM and possible another forward.

He had a 3 year contract. I'm sure he'd get over the interest Barcelona have in him.

This is as bad as Nasri and Fabregas leaving imo, you can say all you like about players wanting to leave but the fact of the matter is we've lost 2 world class players at the very start of the season both years running and its bollox. Rooney wanted to leave yet where did he end up after? The only entity with no backbone as far as I can see is the club itself and the people running it.

Like I said, some serious rabbits will need to be pulled from the hat in the next 13 days if my opinion on where the club is headed is going to change.

I think that's an important aspect of it as well. Should be banned from the club now that's Song is on his way.

Fact, all new signings should have a bit in their contract that bans that him even approaching them for work.

FFS is all I can say.

I'm going to have to take a break for a few hours from here cos I am absolutely livid if that is true. Why don't we just ****ing wrap him up in nice paper and pay to have him couriered as a gift to them.

**** Barcelona and **** our spinless board. Why not make it ****ing official while they're over there and unveil us as the official Barcelona feeder club. Or change the name to Barcelona B or something.

    This is ****ing ridiculous.

Do you think Wenger would let Song go for so little when he knows he had 3 years left on his contract.

By all reports Song has had a very bad attitude problem for some time now and had a falling out with Wenger in the past two weeks. This is Wenger being ruthless and I like it. We will sign midfield cover to replace song.

Not to mention he wouldn't get into our best midfield this season with the signing of Cazorla and or fitness of Diaby anyway.

Chill out. I'm mega disappointed too. 15m euro for a 24 year old player of Song's class is shocking. Can't understand it. He was missed today but we have to move on as we can do nothing about it.
The annoying thing about it is that I don't see our Board replacing him either. His sale and RVP's mean that they have broken even for the season so they will be happy with that.

Does anyone honestly believe Wenger would be stupid enough to let Song go at that price with 3 years left on his contract unless he really had to?

So any player who wants to win trophies is a mercenary now? I'm sorry but that's not really fair. I'm not trying to have a go here, but, Alex Song is going to Barcelona now, that's absolutely terrific for him. Barca play 60 games a season, he will get to play in a few different positions, with the best players in the world and he will almost certainly win some sort of silverware. Expecting him to stay at Arsenal is entirely unrealistic, although it sounds harsh.

The real feeling of sorrow I feel for Arsenal fans is the lazy punditry you will all have to face in the form of "Blah blah blah if Van Persie was still there blah blah blah" anytime you fail to score a goal. Expect the likes of Robbie Savage and all of the RTE panellists to be particularly infuriating.

As for today. It was always going to be tough, Sunderland are dogged under MON, already a bogey team, and with 3 or 4 new signings shoved in, it's gonna take time for them to settle. Although I had Arsenal in my accumulator, I had predicted one of the new boys to get a late goal in a 1-0 win, by all accounts Giroud almost did it.

Song fell out with Wenger and has been a malign influence in the dressing room apparently, so id say the fee reflects that fact we want rid asap. He'll be another Hleb at Barca I'd stake my house on it.

Sahin will come in, but to be honest we dont need to replace Song with a like for like player. Our midfield today proved that. Arteta was the one sitting back and mopping up. He will continue there and do better than Song ever did.

or maybe the man who knows more about song & everyone who posts here combined about football doesn't actually think he's worth what you do

If they dont bring in any replacement, then there is no way we would win anything this season and as much as I dislike Terry Venable but his prediction that Arsenal will come 6th and not qualify for the champions league is looking like a possibility.

The whole thing is just heartbreaking really.

arteta done that most of last season - far far superior player - but all that people see is 'hollywood' song with his 1 accurate pass out of 20 to RVP

    oh oh song's world class

I'm not a particular fan of Song and this is the way I see things:

    Podolski/Gervinho Cazorla Gervinho/Walcott
    Wilshere Arteta

I personally don't think Song would improve that.

What I don't understand about this deal is the fact that Song had a years remaining on his contract, why is he being sold for so little(or at all) if it isn't a forced sale?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 23,070 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

Dont cross the boss it would seem.

I may be wrong but didnt Wenger say recently (even though as he always does he didn't directly admit song was leaving) that if he did leave a CM (might have even said DM even though Song isnt an outright DM) would be brought in? obviously that might just mean Sahin but even then (especially with a buy out option) him & Arteta would work very well in the CM roles Arsenal employ where both seem to do the defensive duties.

I can't imagine Wenger or the board selling him at the price without reasons we don't really know about.
