I actually think the wheels are too much on that. Doesn't look right to me.

Just a bike I'm after finishing 2 days ago. Was my fixie I used for a year in college....it's only around 50cm so it was way too small for me.

Repainted the bike (Sadly didn't turn out as well as I'd of liked, few paint chippings)
New wheelset I handbuilt-Mavic A119 rims on Tiagra 6600 hubs and dtswiss champion spokes.
Full new 7 speed drivetrain and sram x3 rapidfire shifter.

....and off to adverts it goes :pac:

Pulled the trigger on this last week. Have to fit the 105 pedals on it. Fell in love with the colour, all the equipment on it was an added bonus!

Was it a manufacturing flaw? I know nothing about Carbon, but a failure in a frame manufacturered by a big name German company, is to me (I ride an aluminium Focus) shocking  More generally, is the technology in carbon frames still a bit too new ?

Maybe Boeing should redesign their 787 (Dreamliner) to use aluminum instead of carbon ;)

Almost all carbon frames are manufactured in the far east. Why should one with a German brand sticker be better?

No. Carbon fibre is not a new technology. Metal frames fail too, particularly very light ones. I've seen an alu Litespeed cracked at the BB, and Cannondale aren't known as "crack and fail" for nothing.

i was hoping he would give me the s-works venge with sram red and fulcrum zeros but the frame was a bit too big.

I put equal emphasis on "Big Name" and "German" in my post. My point was that a well established and respectable company like Focus should not turn out frames that fail. I say this more as a consumer than a cyclist. Think of the car industry which started with monocoque structures on the Citroen Traction Avant in 1934. I know its not carbon and I know that there are no "normal" production cars made today from carbon (I'm ignoring the likes of the Lamborghini Aventador and McLaren MP4-12C) but when was the last time you heard a car's monocoque chassis cracked?

Yeah, the Passat are a great oul car!:)

I have the F95 which is almost identical in looks to the F5 (Except for the price) I loved the look of it also, and it was what tipped me in favour of it above a few other bikes I was looking at at the time.

Not a valid comparison. A monocoque sportscar chassis is engineered around an immensely strong tub which has to cope with huge stresses from a massively powerful engine and brakes, and protect the occupants in the event of a high speed collision.

Whereas a bicycle frame is designed to keep the wheels apart and the chainrings off the ground.

So shouldn't it be easier to make a reliable carbon monocoque for a bike then? Oh, and I think your design criteria for a bike frame may be missing some bits. ;)

I've never heard of a car's monoque cracking (and yes, I know these are generally not made of carbon) but have heard of this happening with carbon bikes. The fact that a car's "frame" is not made from Carbon and has more stresses to cope with is irelevant from a consumer's point of view; they should be fit for purpose. I couldn't really give a fiddlers about the technology other than the requirement that it should work.

I have owned a number of new cars and ALL of them required warranty work, including work that was safety-related.

In fact I have a bunch of letters from Suzuki covered in RED CAPS telling me that if I don't get my car looked at it will likely burst into flames. Fortunately someone stole it.

How is that different from a bicycle frame being replaced?

Also, most cyclists desire technologies that are faster, lighter, more comfortable, better handling AND don't break. It's the compromises between all these factors that leads to none of them being optimal.
