Also, put me in The Dark Knight Rises was a bit silly and crap camp.

Just played the demo of the new Transformers game.

Feels a lot more polished than the last game, which despite some great moments was pretty wonky overall.

Doubt this one will come close to the old PS2 one either though.

Now that game was a corker!
It's one of those PS2 games I've evangelised about, along with Secret weapons of the Luftwaffe and Cold Winter, but few listen.
Outstanding game, aside from the all too easy end boss.

The story was pretty ridiculous with lots of inconsistencies
Oh Bruce Wayne gambles all his stock away at the same time there's a break in at the stock exchange, now that has to be a conincidence.
Not to mention another thing I saw a mile off thanks to the lazy trope of
my accent is too eastern european, therefore I have to be a bad guy.
There's plenty of other things that didn't add up.

This would be all fine if the action scenes were good but none of them where.

It was enjoyable but it wasn't great, expect Anne Hathaway in that catwoman suit, rawr!

The Dark Knight Rises, despite it's few faults, was the best blockbuster of the summer, and one of the best superhero movies I've seen.
We are living in a great age of good/great Marvel movies, here's hoping Nolan's Batman trilogy is a new start to the DC universe, after a poor Superman and Green Lantern iterations.
There seem to be more than a few cynics out there that say they didn't enjoy DKR at all, and this I find very hard to believe.
Accepting there was a fairly flaccid middle act, much of which could have been tightened up in the editing suite, and the return to the turkish prison bit was a bit meh, the rest of the film was excellent, imho, and was good enough for me to attend a second viewing.
There are no superhero stories that aren't silly.
If constumed vigilantes made sense in the real world, we'd have them on our streets, therefor some suspension of reality is needed to accept their stories as legitimate.
I haven't seen a Batman or Comedian in many recent news stories.
    .
    ..
    ...
Perhaps Rorschach might have a place in the world, on reflection!

    Better than the Avengers?

Well for me TDKR won't be watched a second time, once was enough for me. It was enjoyable but the serious tone of the film was at odds with just how daft it was.

I have to say i wasnt blown away by it, it was good sure.. but there was stuff all over it i rolled my eyes at. personally id rank it the worst out of the 3. the best thing in it for me was Bane. my main problems with it..
His miracoulous recovery from not only an 8 year old limp but also a broken back by getting punched in the spine.

Did we really need another film where the hero flys a nuke over the bay at the last minute? that was lazy writing, done a million times.

Heres a prison in the middle of nowhere, with a UPC connection so you can watch tv! plus, look theres no roof, theres a way out! also make sure when you get out you throw down that rope up there so all the other murders and rapists can escape.. cheers.

My biggest gripe, might sound stupid.. but it took me out of the film.. it was all the bit part actors in it.

    Weird looking guy from Torchwood.
    T'ealc from Stargate
    Quinn from Dexter
Mathew Modine was a waste, i dunno why he was even in there??

it felt like half the cast was in there because they where mates with the director or something.

Talia al ghuls death was pathetic. a car crash, then the old speech before dying.. also Comissioner Gorden was in the back of that without a seatbelt on and a loose Nuke in there and he didnt have a scratch on him! haha..

I didnt like how they handled that guy being Robin either

Best thing about the film for me was BANE. i loved his character, loved the voice, the walk everything. I NEVER thought i was going to like Bane in this and ended up thinking he was the best thing in the film by far. I did actually enjoy the film, i seen it twice, but i was let down by it.. it was a bit messy in places.

That's it really. It's seriously pretentious and overwrought which only serves to make it look more ridiculous.

Hard to know which was the bigger disappointment this year, DKR or Prometheus.

Has anyone seen the trailer for the new Wachowski brothers (although one of them is a woman now) film? Cloud Atlas. It looks pretty interesting, even if it is filled with actors I wouldn't normally like.

Both hyped up so absurdly much that they were never going to live up to peoples expectations

They should do a Bane spin off. His character wasn't very good in the original Knightfall comics (they were terrible comics overall). But when he became an anti hero things got very interesting. The Secret Six stuff is great.

I was expecting well made films (given the caliber of the directors) and coherent plots. Which I don't think is all that much to look for in a film.

In fairness to Prometheus it probably was well made... it's just had a terrible screenplay.

Agreed for sure, but the hype levels were so that anything less than a masterpiece was going to disappoint many. I actually avoided the hype for both & found both enjoyable/passable action flicks, nothing more nothing less really.

I had the first section of Knightfall in one graphic novel when I was a kid. Up until the part where Batman gets crippled. Read it loads, but never found the second part anywhere so to this day I still don't know wtf happened after that!

I thought it was a bit stupid how the most powerful villains are all taken out over a single evening. Really took away from them.

The Joker and Scarecrow team up (two criminal geniuses) and the best plan they have is to blow up Batman with a rocket launcher.

The stuff with the Ventriloquist was great though, but didn't really go anywhere.

Oh and you'd probably want to have read Azrael before the second part of Knightfall so you know who Jean Paul Valley is.

    Regarding a spoilered comment,
Didn't Ironman fly the "nuke over the bay" when he flew the device into the vortex, assumed to be a one way mission before falling back, still maybe dead, and then... no.... life!

On a brighter note, I have Batman AC again, so I can enjoy a universally loved Batman story!
    No controversy there!

So, anyone looking to buy the NSMB2?
Debating with myself if to splurge on it, having overspent on games in the PC World/Currys sale the other week.

Captain America was pretty great, Avengers was lots of fun, looks like there's a possibility of a Thomas Jane Punisher movie... maybe...
Thor was fun, the two Ironman films were good too.
I'd like to suggest that expectations for masterpieces is a little unreasonable, the closest to superhero perfection must be the first two Superman movies.
But would they, by today's standards sfx aside, be a wholly uncriticised series?

Forget about decent super hero movies, lets see a good superman game!
