Can't believe that finish. I nearly swallowed my own heart there. What a killer.

Great finish. Rte commentary... saying that the technique wasn't there for Phelps. God help them they can only spout such stupid comments.

Yeah I appears that way, he didn't really reach for the wall. He seemed kinda out of his stride however.

Mine was fine. Their HD is brilliant, in fairness to them.

You could see he was jacked coming up to the last turn! How tight can it get though

Why are the swimmers wearing headphones when they walk on? Surely they have lockers

There are lockers but they have to pay £1 and strap the key to their wrist and many of the swimmers feel this would slow them down so they just wear their headphones.

If it was the GAA then Phelps would still have a chance for gold through a backdoor system.

And there would be 15 Donegal fellas in the shallow end, stopping him from finishing. :pac:

Anyone know what's going on with the fencing? Just tuned in there and the match appears to have been stopped for some reason

    China usually good at this

Not really, always great at beam and bars, usually mediorcre or worse on vault and floor. Much poorer team than 2008, which showed in their standing.

The bronze match was stopped due to the hits not registering on one of the players...maybe it's the same issue here?

So it was all down to his stroke count.

Those Chinese gymnasts are amazing but i have seen bigger kids coming out of creches. They are bred to be gymnasts and have their growth stunted so it's a bit cruel.

Almost all of the gymnasts shown today are under 5 foot. It's what happens when you train that hard. Dominique Moceanu, USA star of the 96 games was 4'4 and is now 5'3. Gabby Douglas, current USA star is 4'11. Japan's team are tiny too, and most of Romania's. They all grow once they hit around 18, China's team ARE all over 18 for the first time ever, but they're not known for height as a country anyway, or for looking older than their years. Gymnastics is not cruel these days, but China do train the hardest.

The Egyptian guy hurt his elbow, not sure if it was from a hit to it or not

Theyre being very lenient on the British in the gymnastics I think. Tweddle didnt do great on the floor and still got 14 point something.

She has high difficulty. Execution is still out of 10 and gets hit for mistakes, but if you have really high difficulty execution doesn't matter as much. It's why really clean routines shown like Asuka Teramoto (tiny Japanese girl) and Diana Bulimar (tiny Romanian girl) are outscored by American high difficulty routines.

One of the contestants climbed over it and ran down the road. I think it was a N. Korean.

What age would them gymnastics girls be ?

Was afraid to say "jaysus she's fine" just in case she was 15.  :eek:l

There are three fifteen year olds! One American, one British and one Canadian. Average age is 16-17, they are at their peak either then or before...it's a very young sport and always has been. Legal age..one American (the very last girl on floor), one Russian (girl who fell on her last pass), Beth Tweddle, Hannah Whelan, the tall Japanese girl with the fringe- Rie Tanaka, and the two tall Romanians. Some of the Canadians. Can't tell who you are referring to! Likely to be McKayla Maroney USA who's 16, either of the two Romanians who are both over 20 or Aliya Mustafina of Russia (fierce dark-haired one), who is 17...they are the prettiest.

That'll surely be a medal (one at least!) for GB in the 200m breaststroke tomorrow.
