Considering he is giving away the tarzan/ps1 case that he got with it, it kinda makes it more obvious.

    Right first time too.

I heard I was making the news over here. Yes I bought a couple of these a while back while they were being sold off, many people here done the same. I decided to sell one and the asking price was based on the current market. Initially I was planing a downsize of my collection, but then I decided to buy a N64 for my son from the proceeds. It's better to play on the real hardware rather than so called virtual console. I have posted here in the past but due to ill health last year and family reasons I took a break. I have seen many a pile of crap on adverts at vastly unrealistic prices but I do beleive this to be a fair price for what it was. Anyway I said I would stick up a picture of what I turned my PS1 into needless to say he was over the moon.:pac:

You decided to profiteer on something you bought cheap. Which is against the adverts.ie rules.

'Rules, boo hoo, who cares about rules'

Ever heard of ticket touts? Well profiteering the way you did it is exactly the same thing - taking the items away from people who really want them at a decent price and making them pay through the nose for it instead. Most decent collectors here pass items along to other collectors at the same price they paid for them. It's a hobby, not a business.

By the way, the 'current market price' for a boxed PS1 cannot be gathered simply by linking a couple of auctions where people paid stupid prices for them. Hell, I could do that with absolutely any item.

I especially feel sorry for the guy who bought it from you as the original person you got them from yourself still has some left at 35 euro.

On a side note, sorry to hear about the ill health :( hope you're doing alright now!

Plenty of people including posters in these forums buy off adverts and either resell on ebay or other sites, that's life get over it.

confused.gifThis seems like a logical way of working out the current price of pretty much anything to me. If you have any better suggestions I'm all ears.

I sold the same guy gamecube games that went straight up on Ebay a couple of days later. This may go the same way, I don't have a crystal ball so I can't tell for sure:rolleyes:

Doing fine now thanks for asking:D You know the way you said that guy still has some left, do you know if he opens on Sunday?

Where's the shop may I ask? Wouldn't mind one, not for profiteering, but I do believe it would look well in the games room.... somewhere between my 3DO collection and my... cough, cough, NGAGE library... Christ I still can't quite believe I've sought out each and every game for that lob-sided monstrosity.

If anyone is thick enough to pay the money your asking, then your free to do what you want.

If Adverts had any interest in enforcing their own rules, you'd have been banned long ago for profiteering as o1s1n mentions. Its easy to show adverts mods where you got the PS1 & easy to show how your breaking their rules, but they've no interest, so again, your free to do what you want.

Over here, we're free to do what we want. And if we put your ad in the dreamer of the year thread for asking rip off prices, we're free to do it.

Ok, this subject is dealt with, can we move on?
Don't want this to descend into abuse.

This thread is specifically for exposing ridiculous prices, unfair practices and profiteering, that are to be found on ebay, Donedeal and Adverts.

As EnterNow says, people are free to link to these adverts and auctions and comment on them.

No personal abuse is allowed but I think we can all agree better that someone has issue and airs it here than does it in the advert itself.

So, that's the end of it.

Both sides have commented, people are free to make up their own minds on who is right.

A warning has already been issued regarding personal abuse.

I do not want to have to issue any more warnings, this forum is well behaved with only the occasional spammer to rain on our parade.
I'd rather not have to comment on this again.

    Thanks,

    End of line.....

Let me introduce you to a Nut-case a little further from home :

This is about a Ketsui PCB and this guy is trying to sell it for about two years now for 90.000 Yen on YHJ which is well over € 900,-
The real value of such a board is a little under € 600,- so it stays unsold for years and he should really change his price ....and he did :pac:

    http://page13.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/r84682205

    Buy it now for 140.000

Sorry to drag this up but the Adverts rules you speak of can only apply to something that has an actual retail price that you can compare it to, once something is off the market and a "collector's item" value is only relative to how much someone is willing to pay for the item.

For instance a ticket tout can buy tickets that have a set price that is written on them and sell them for more than that, thus profiteering and selling above value.

If I have a 1p stamp from 1860 to some people it may be worth €100k in their eyes, to others it's a useless piece of paper worth nothing at all.

The same applies to those PS1's to be honest. It's capitalism, deal with it.
Have you never seen Antiques Roadshow? "How much did you buy it for?"

Yes in the strictest sense, the profiteering rule does apply to the rrp of an item.

Given that ps1's are no longer a retail item, the rrp does no longer exist & as such the value is determined by the market value.

Given you can buy these brand new PS1's for €30, that affects the established market value...but it no longer technically breaks adverts rules you are correct.

However, advertising an item for six times the price that was paid for it should be against a rule. And for whoever bought it, well, I feel that person was ripped off - I don't think any member of this forum would say otherwise.

And frankly, I couldn't give a toss. This thread is about laughing at the ludicrous prices people ask for 'rare' & 'vintage' items. The fact that this item actually sold, just makes it more sad than funny. I feel bad for the guy that bought it, but otherwise, I'm not loosing any sleep over it.

There was a time when I would've felt bad too but not anymore, if buyers aren't doing their homework then that's their fault if they get screwed (hopefully a lesson learned). Then again maybe the buyer has money to burn and didn't care about the price.

I'd be surprised if that ebay PS1 sells at all (surely it won't at the idiotic BIN price anyway). Sure the postage alone is twice what he paid for the unit. Brilliant stuff.

Its the very same one. The tarzan thing confirms it, but the location puts it in stone -

    Item location: Howth,, Dublin, Ireland

Either someone is taking the piss out of us or this is the perfect example of inflated pricing - in just three transactions.

WTF, this very same seller sold a cart only version of ALTTP for 61?!

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/130729949841#ht_500wt_1282

    people are stupid.

Edit ah it came with the secrets booklet and map too.

Still not worth 61 euro though.

I preferred this thread when it was all about laughing at people with their unrealistic valuations on their stuff for sale, now is gone all serious.... No fun!

To be honest when someone comes on the market and sells a large amount of product for a low sum it drives the market value down, this means that those who take advantage and charge big money for these items are, while not breaking any rules, at least guilty of being lousy.

Anyhow, on with the funny stuff!

I expect posts of overpriced Saga Magadrives and Super 64's !

Haha no way! Then my second assumption about the buyer having money to burn was kind of correct. He's got money to burn to try and make even more money. :D

Monkeykube should buy it back and stick it up on Adverts for €400+ or something. :pac:

Or maybe that ebay seller is Monkeykube himself or a friend.

I can honestly say when I bought the 2 playstations I thought I may trade one against some other retro goodness down the line. Then I had planned to downsize my collection. I stated in my original ad that I would trade for some snes rpgs. These have become very sought after and thus inflated prices as you all well know. My asking price was completely open to offers or trades, I had no way of knowing they were still available at the original asking price. You can get plenty of lowballer offers on Adverts, I got an offer and I took it. Sorry if this made me look like a capitalist pig. At the end of the day something is only worth what someone is going to pay for it.
