    M5 either MM......

    Too big a car, if I needed/wanted a big car I wouldn't be selling the MPS ;)

350Z - too small, engine too big for the power it puts out and I don't like the look of them.

    645 - they're ugly, engine too big

CL - I'm not a fan of Mercs.

I was pushing my own personal boundaries when it comes to engine size by going for an M3.

I'm guessing this is going to be a flat out no but hear me out first....

How about a Impreza WRX STi?

OK, so it might not have that rare or special feeling that your after but I've seen more Mazda 6 MPS's and M3's on the roads here in the last 6 months than I've seen WRX STi's.

It will be cheap enough to tax, if you treat it right it shouldn't give too much trouble, your used to teen MPG's in the 6 as far as I remember and after driving one around the Rally School Ireland track I can assure you they are a joy to drive.

It'll probably be labeled as boy-racerish by some people on here but that shouldn't matter and with the actual boy racers moving to the felt spec'ing VAG world you'll unlikely actually see a boy racer running one of these.

    Just a left field suggestion.

That's no a leftfield suggestion draff, that's in another field on the other side of town :P I don't want a saloon.

The Brera is a good suggestion but again, the power isn't there for the engine size.

    I agree, just get an M3! :D

No, I haven't resigned myself to anything, it's just that the M3 happens to fit my criteria as does the RX8. ;)

While I can agree that the extra tax for a 3.2 litre engine for the Brera etc may not be worth the power they provide, surely the extra running costs of both the M3 and RX8 would offset that?

Not to me. If I got the Brera, I'd be constantly saying to myself "I'm paying M3 tax for RX8 power" and then I'd slowly die inside each time.

Everyone thinks the running costs of an RX8 are unreal but I know the RX8 inside out and I can tell you, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than an M3 to run and maintain.

What have you got against the 335i? They are about 360HP remapped and cheaper to run than the M3 / RX8 and much easier to find one that is mint enough for you

The main problem with it is that its just not an M3 I suppose :) The stance and the revs are epic

Why buy something like an M3 when you can buy an M3 ;)

Go for it man, its one of "those cars" Your young and in a position to buy one. start seriously looking for one and enjoy. And forget about tax for god sake! you had no problem giving the government 3 grand a year in tobacco tax up until recently ;)

Tax is one thing but I don't want to be smothered with loan repayments for the next 2 years which is why it's hard to find something within my price range at the moment plus I have to either sell my own car first or be given fvck all as a trade-in.

There's a few M3s now that are catching my eye but they're very over-priced.

Surely if you were trading in on something as hard to shift as an m3 you would get a decent deal?

You'd be surprised how easily M3's are selling these days. I rang one guy last night and another this morning and both were sold!

I'm not so sure if dealers take into consideration how hard a car is to sell if they are selling it but they certainly would with regards to a car they are taking in.

Problem is you are looking at too new cars therefore they seem overpriced relative to RX8's etc. You arent going to get a late model E46 M3 (2004) in the price range I suspect you are looking at, but you should find a nicely spec'd 2001-2003 model.

The 335i would drive a bit more like the MPS (boosty with torque low down) and the M3 drives like a RX8 (revvy, naturally aspirated racey).

Ignore the peak BHP, the difference is the totally different methods of getting there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,920 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

    Thanks Alan!

No, they were overpriced relative to other M3's. One (private sale) 2004 with 58,000 miles going for €17,500 compared to a beautiful imola red 2004 (dealer) with 57,000 miles for €13,950.

BTW what would you know about driving an MPS? :pac: :P

Why would there be something wrong with it? I got it originally due to my job but someone else has been hired specifically to cover that aspect so I don't need a big car anymore and I fancy a change too! I gave up on the 99 RON long before I made the decision to change ;)

Any car I've had bar the RX8 I've only held onto for 1 year before changing.

    No offence taken man ;)

The change bug visits me way too often! I never have a car for a year without wanting to change it. The RX8 was different though, I loved that car and the fact that it took me over 2 years to repay the loan :o

RWD/4WD are good, as long as it's not FrontWD :pac:

I'm afraid Alan called shotgun a few months ago when I was chatting to him at the meet at which everyone disappeared. He said that if I ever got an M3, he wants shotgun. Sorry Ed!

    I am overcome with joy!

Since two o clock I've washed and dried the glanza, got a mist of detailing spray over the outside of it, a layer of tyre shine and got to clean all the door jambs. Also got to buff my headlights by machine at last to get that yellowing effect off of them. Then got inside got to wet vac all the seats and done the boot carpet again, all dash plastics done and done all the crevices with a cotton bud. Phew :)

Expecting it to piss down any minute to undo all that.

Funnily enough I went outside for a smoke while it was raining last night to watch the beading on my car and thought to myself.... "Yeah, I did that..."

Then I said, "I really need a life" and went to bed :(

If I sold the Jag in the morning I haven't a clue what I'd buy. It's like I've completely lost interest

Would love a Range Rover, alright.

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/3460640

    Not far out of reach.

Generally much better value in petrol Range Rovers; I'll have mine a year next week, Oct 2005 supercharged 4.2. Have done as much driving in past year as over 2 prior years. The 4.4 v8 is supposed to be pretty rock solid.
