The Bundesliga is streets ahead of Ligue 1, and according to UEFA the Bundesliga is also better than Serie A, and has been for about 2 seasons now.

    It's not though.

It's got a higher co-efficient because the smaller german teams actually give a **** about the Europa League while the Italian teams play their reserves and Primavera squad players, which is why Serie A lost the 4th CL spot.

Good stuff, g'wan you crazy germans with your well organized structure, low ticket prices, low debt levels, high attendances, competitive league, youth development process and high quality football!

I'd agree with ya there Seaneh, I was just making the point that the Bundesliga is far better than Ligue 1.

    Well, that's just plain obvious.

I think UEFA need to make the Europa League worth winning.

The winner should get an automatic spot in the CL the next season, that way people would actually try win it, as it is not, nobody plays a full squad before the last 16.

3rd place from CL groups shouldn't be lowered into it either.

Neither Milan nor Juve are with Dortmund and Bayern as of last season. The bottom half of the Bundesliga is relatively poor so it probably evens up about there, but overall I'd say theres not much in it.

I'd say they are level, and I think Milan and Juve can compete with anyone.
I'd say in terms of over all quality (1-20) Italy, Germany and England are actually better than Spain.

Spainish league = Barca, Real and then 30 points behind them, everyone else.

    It's like the ****ing SPL.

Being able to compete with anyone isn't the same as being at the same level.

Again, agree with all this. There's little prestige in winning the EL these days, the only clubs that seem interested anyways are Spanish clubs and clubs from the lesser leagues. It only cloggs up the fixture list and from what I read there's not even much of a financial incentive, apparently the EL winners only get a similar amount to clubs that reach the last XI of the CL.

It'd be the same in any league, England less so than the rest because of the 2 Manchester clubs. But nobody anywhere has perfected the art of not getting dominated by Barca just yet. A few lucky results along the way don't change that.

Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Malaga and Bilbao or
Inter, Napoli, Lazio and Udinese or
    Schalke, Monchengladbach, Leverkusen and Stuttgart

    I know which I'd have.

If you break it down further, the reason why EL winners get a similar amount to UCL last 16 team in terms of income is because of the amount of extra home games to get to the final whereas its mainly TV money that makes up the UCL income. Basically the Europa League is a fancy way for clubs to exploit fans.

I'm actually pretty sure there is more money from being in the Group Stage of the CL than winning the EL from what I remember reading.

I'm pretty sure it's the last 16 of the champions league. In prize money anyway, I don't know if that includes tv money.

    I mean, in total revenue.

If that Thiago/Ibra deal goes ahead then it'll go down as one of the craziest of all time. Thiago would nearly command that fee all on his own, and Ibrahimovic showed in the Euros why he's one of the best forwards in the world.

Silva is good but jesus christ, he's not worth anywhere near that, not even in today's ludicrous market.

He's one of the top 5 players in the world.

    He is worth that, easily.

He's head and shoulders above every other CB in the world, only Kompany comes close.

Vidic is better than kompany IMO or at least worthy of the same praise.

Hugo Rodellega has told Everton he wants £70,000 a week to sign for them :pac: I'd imagine Moyes and co just burst out laughing in his face when his agent told them that.

He's very average and should only command a wage of about a quarter of that at most.

Vidic of 09/10 maybe, hes not even close to kompanys level anymore.

why's this? Because he was injured last season? Anything at all to back up this claim? No? Good...

Maybe not quite the €65 mark, but he'd easily reach €50 million on his own. A world class centre back offers as much as a world class forward does.

It's a ridiculous sum for two world class players. Zlatan moved for more than that a few years ago. Now he's seemingly valued at about €20 million :pac:.

Well the fact that he was injured last season doesn't help him in that respect.

Ah be fair man, he was injured last season and when united had him for the few games we kept a good few clean sheets in a row. Losing him last season arguably cost us the league.

Vidic has been the most consistant cb in recent years in the prem. Dont get me wrong kompany is top class but let's see if he can do it season in and out like vidic.

Silva and Ibra for 65mil? That would be very very strange......

Last month it was being reported that they had offered 80 million for the pair so how would it get lower with Silva signing a new deal?

Being reported by a few different sites now though, very odd, French papers, Italian tv and the usual rags all running with the story that a bid of 51.3million pounds has been accepted for the pair.

Doesn't sit right with me at all, 50 million for Torres, 51 million gets you both Silva and Ibra! Two of the best in their position in the world, would be stunned if this turns out to be true, Ibra maybe, not for the money, but I could see Ibra leaving alright. His agent is a plank and he hasn't won a French league title yet :)

    Seaneh,

    Few quick questions
are Milan in some sort of serious financial trouble?
are they in need of cash to fund signings (RVP, Ganso that kind of thing)
Will Galliani be hung from the rafters if Silva is allowed to leave after all that has gone on?

Just read another quote from an "unnamed source" aka load of ****, who told L'equippe that no negotiations had begun yet and PSG had no asserted their position on the matter, it seems to have stemmed from some comments Galliani made where he said anything can happen
"Everything is possible in life; the market is ever changing," the Rossoneri chief opined. "That is not to say they will leave. I am just saying that anything is possible - things happen that you don't expect.

"The transfer window is very long, who knows what will happen?

"Last year I never imagined that I would be able to sign [Antonio] Nocerino [on deadline day]. Anyway, the AC Milan squad on August 31 will be competitive."

Sounds like a lot is being read into his comments for the sake of creating interest tbh

God, I hate Ibra. His stupid d'Artanian moustache and his slimy sumo polytail and the smugness. He BELONGS in Paris, to be fair.

    Sorry, Parisians...

So what I'd say. I quite enjoy the compeititon. Just because the big boys don't care for it doesn't mean it's not a big deal for other clubs and leagues.

It's really not a big deal for anyone in Spain, Germany, Italy, England, France or Holland, and that's the problem. They need to make is actually worth winning, as it is, it's like a sorry consolation prize for teams who finish 3rd in the CL groups.

The fact that no teams from major leagues play their full teams before tha last 16 is a joke and even then some of them still don't play full teams.

    Sorry, my bad!

Ok, so Tony Evans (Times Footie chief) says Liverpool are trying hard to move Carroll on, which would suggest Pool are in the market for 2 strikers. Borini looks like one, does Dempsey count as the other? Or is there a surprise to come?

    Huntelaar please (and Kuda)...
