hi, i need to drink a lot of water in my workplace, but I am really really bad at drinking water (if i drink just water from a glass, it takes my breath away - no lie). But to increase my water intake, I started using mi wadi no added sugar.

I have been using mi wadi for almost two years now - and it has to stop. I am aware of the amount of gunk in it; Art. Sweeteners, preservatives, colourings etc.

So can someone recommend another way for me to flavour water without using these nasty cordials?

    Thanks in advance,

Did you try just squeezing in some lemon or lime?

I know it's a cordial but M&S do an Elderflower one with no artificial colours or flavours and I'm sure there are others out there which are similar.

dont knock it til you try it, but dilute it with Milk. F'n delicious! Same mix ratio as cordial.

how about some fresh spear mint leaves or grated frozen ginger( yummy with squeeze of lemon!).... both good for digestion and tasty!
You just need to train your tastebuds away from that cordial stuff! good luck! you can do it!

Volvic have two flavoured waters that are sugar free.

One is citrus but I avoid citrus fruits as they seem to make my nose run. I drink the other flavour which is strawberry.

Just checked a 1.5l bottle there, it has 2 calories. it also lists acidity regulator, flavouring, a preservative and 2 sweeteners.

The colours and flavours aren't the problem. It's the sugar.

i already use sugar free; the problem is the artificial sweeteners/colourings and preservatives (i drink a silly amount of the stuff - cannot be good for my body.. the body does not like all these processed substances).

must look at the robinson's ingredient listing..

i also had a look at the nuun hydration products there..

could one use the U natural product as a hangover cure i wonder? i currently use dioralyte.. but it might be too much...

I often use Biocare Mixed Ascorbate powder. It's relatively expensive though for the amount you get.

the nuun active are very popular with the cycling/running crew as the electrolytes are great for hydration and it is very easy drink/light on the stomach while on the move. i'm no doctor but it seems like it should help with the dehydration aspect of a hangover alright, YMMV though

the all dya drink i was referring to is slightly different to the active tablets, it doesn't have the sodium or electrolytes as you don't need them if just drinking at your desk, i don't think regular consumption of the active tablets on a daily basis is any way advisable

i must check ingredients of dioralyte and nuun active.. at the moment i use dioralyte for hangovers and it does just that - i don't get hangovers.I must also compare price.

i drink that mi-wadi no added sugar aswel and use it as a mixer for vodka are you sure its that bad? the lablel on the back says its really low on everything including sugar

Soda water with a wedge of lime - delish, really refreshing, and almost zero calories.

Then, when you want to go boozing, add some vodka - the lowest calorie alcoholic beverage you can drink, afaik.

the amount of mixer you would be drinking here would not be very much and not very often so i would not worry about it if i were you..

Are the Nuun type drinks bad for you if you just have normal hydration needs and arent particularly active? Can you do yourself harm with them?

OP I also suggest the Elderflower cordial from M&S, its quite different. There are quite a lot of sugar free drinks out there too though, like lucozade sport now do a diet version that I think is sugar free. I always find the taste to strong but you could add a dash to a drink of water and it might "liven it up" a bit.

A few slices of cucumber is really nice, odd I know but really tasty .... Ok really tasty might be pushing it a little.

I personally find tonic water can have an offputting taste due to the Quinine, so I'd go for the soda water, but that might just be me.

I absolutely love tonic water - I buy the slimline stuff and I could happily drink gallons of the stuff. If you add a slice of lemon/lime and some ice, you could almost be drinking a vodka-tonic! (Of course, adding vodka makes it even better! :P)

That said, as the above poster said, it does have a "taste", which some people find a little bitter, due to the quinine. It probably also has artificial sweetener etc. if it's the slimline one, and sugar if it's not slimline, so OP may be better off with straight soda (which to me just tastes like a slightly fizzier version of sparkling water).

    .

the nuun active are full of electrolytes/sodium, which wouldn't be good for you on a regular basis. i use the nuun actives for running/cycling

what i recommended above are the nuun everyday, which i've never tried, (why i said i was considering giving them a go). they have the sodium+ other taken out, and are specifically designed to be used on a regular basis. given that is what they are designed for i imagine they are fine for non active people.

To help me drink water i use innocent orange juice (smooth)
one 330ml bottle will last me 3 days with 4 pints of water per day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,358 ✭✭✭sporina

i started using mint and lovin it so thanks heaps for the replies..

tried lime but I found that if i leave the slices in the water for too long, there develops a bitter taste; probably just to some compounds leeching out for the skn or something..

i might get some lime juice - that might be good too.. but the mint is a winner in any case..

    so cheers..

no more mi wadi for me..
