Was the whole curry just for you in one sitting? In that case I think it's too much, but if it's 2+ portiona fine. I think thai curry paste would be nicer. The Thai Gold brand is lovely & has no nasties.
I love prawns. 13.4g of protein per 100g so not a huge protein source and very low in fat so you'd want to balance them with a good fat source.

I make a red curry paste with coconut oil, it's a really easy thing to make yourself if you have the ingredients and a food processor.
I've bought prawns this week, don't normally eat them but I want to increase, seafood in my diet, what is the nutrient breakdown of prawns?(I could look in my freezer but the cat's on me:o )

Is gluten the culprit? I mean, can you eat bread if it is gluten free or biscuits or whatever?

No gluten free processed crap is still......crap. Better off without.

Off to Spain in a couple of hours, stay paleo kids :)

Gluten is only one of the ant-nutrients in grains, even if it's gluten free it still has phytates (reduce mineral absorbtion), lectins (irritates stomach lining), protease inhibitors (stop you digesting protein)......

    Have a great holiday DCD!

Haven't been on here in a while. Finished my first Whole30 last week. Feel great! I lost 10 lbs, am sleeping really well and I'm not craving sugar these days. Not planning any major deviation from the way I'm eating at the moment. It's the best lifestyle change I've ever made.

Is almond milk suitable for a primal or paleo diet? Does dairy only mean product of cows?

Have you tried posting on the 'Farming & Forestry' section? There's a lot of farmers on there so one of them may be able to help you. Also if you go to Farmers' markets and ask about?

Almond milk tends to have other stuff in with it, along with almonds and oil... So check the ingredients. Dairy means the milk of other mammals (cow, goat, yak etc)

Hi everyone,I'm new to this forum. I have just started treatment for an underactive thyroid and want to get as healthy as possible as feeling fairly awful at the minute. WOuld a whole 30 get me to a good start or should I ease in to healthy eating a bit more first?I'm a 26 year old woman. Thanks, sorry if this is a silly question :)

Hi, sorry you got ignored, I think everyone went on holiday...

Whole 30 is hard even for those people who eat primal/paleo - you might be better starting out the way Dotcomdolly did and just take one step at a time - the link in her first post will lead you to a list that you can do week by week like these guys did. Best of luck with it.

DCD goes away and we all shut up LOL

It Starts With Food was launched today so I'm off to amazon now to order 2 copies... One for myself because I want to own it and one for the gentleman in my life who is having palpitations about cooking for me :-D I think I might buy him Everyday Paleo too :) I would love to get the copy of EP signed for him so I might send off a message to Sarah and see what we can work out. If I had thought of it last weekend I could have sorted it no problem :-(

I'm going to give this a go. I've struggled with my weight for years and have tried weightwatchers numerous times but I'm sick of handing over money and then just cheating with the points system. I want to completely change my eating habits and lifestyle in general.

Since Monday I've removed sugar from my diet, cut out all bread, pasta, potatoes, white rice and alcohol. It's going ok so far. I've been loading up on veg, lean meats and eggs and I've majorly upped my water intake. I've increased how much fruit I eat but I know you're not supposed to overdo it with fruit.

No massive sugar cravings so far but I'm sure they'll come!

I have a question about cooking with oils. Sorry if its been asked and answered but I've been using extra virgin olive oil. Is this ok? Should I be using something else?

Good for you AIF. I'm an ex WWer too, it can sometimes hard for "us"to up the fat and cut back the fruit so bear that in mind.

Re the fats for cooking - coconut oil or ghee are what I use. EVOO should be used unheated.

I ordered it Starts with Food last night - best price by a long way on BD. Thanks LT!

You could just write "Gotta love paleo..." :)

So yer man has cooked dinner for me a few times and I have to say I am impressed with the passion he has embraced paleo cooking with :) He made a fab mushroom accompaniment to steak the other night. I have bought him ISWF and can't wait to sneak a peak at it myself.

    Dreaded Double

I have an event on August 19th so I'm going to start a Whole30 on July 18th. I want to lose a few pounds but I'd rather just make sure that I'm eating clean before the event & look the best I can :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,934 ✭✭✭Dotcomdolly

Good luck LT. I have a few social events coming up, two end of school year drinks on 22nd and 28th and then my granny's 100th on July 14th, so I can't get a 30 day straight run in unless I forego the drink at one/some/all of the events....Hmmm.
But I could do with a re-set...dreading the summer holidays with the kids of, the stress levels will be through the roof.

Slightly off topic perhaps but is it bad to steam/boil an egg with another food in the steamer/pot with it?

Think I heard it is somewhere, old wifes tale perhaps

Hi everyone - wow just spent the last day or so reading from the start. I am interested in turning paleo. I have just recently gone wheat and gluten free so I think Im on the right track. I quit smoking nearly 4 months ago and have piled on a few pounds despite being really active (running, tennis, gym, tag rugby). Maybe this is what I need!

I am a fussy old eater though and wanted to ask if I could possibly pull off a Flintstone-esque diet without eating eggs (i cant stand them) or nuts. I absolutely love red meat but my iron levels are already higher than normal (but not haemochromatosis) and worry about eating so much meat.
Also as my username suggests i love tea/coffee and i dont know if i could go dairy free!

Also last question - where do you get the time?!!
I rush home from work, grab a bite and am out the door 45 mins later again. Thats most nights of the week and Ive a fairly hectic summer between weddings, holidays, hen parties, weekends away etc. From yer posts it looks like ye have a tough time eating while out and about too.

I suppose I can only do my best and give it a shot!

depends on whats in it, the pot that is, expect the egg to pick up a little of the taste of whats in the pot

Well done on quitting the smokes, a total life changer. You can spend all the money you've saved on meat!

I am a fussy old eater though and wanted to ask if I could possibly pull off a Flintstone-esque diet without eating eggs (i cant stand them) or nuts.

Eggs cooked any way at all?? even in an omelette?
    Do you like nut butters?

I absolutely love red meat but my iron levels are already higher than normal (but not haemochromatosis) and worry about eating so much meat.

Don't worry you'll be fine, add some fish too, and pork etc.

Also as my username suggests i love tea/coffee and i dont know if i could go dairy free!

I found it surprisingly easy to switch to black coffee, it had the added benefit of quitting instant too. I didn't fancy lyons with no milk so switched to herbal teas to replace my evening cuppa.

Also last question - where do you get the time?!!
I rush home from work, grab a bite and am out the door 45 mins later again. Thats most nights of the week and Ive a fairly hectic summer between weddings, holidays, hen parties, weekends away etc.

I'm a stay at home mum so definitely have some more time, maybe for yourself do cook-ups at the weekend, and when you do cook a meal make double or triple portiosn for freezer/leftovers.

From yer posts it looks like ye have a tough time eating while out and about too.

You can work around most menus if you are determined.

I suppose I can only do my best and give it a shot!

That's all you can do, plan to succeed!
