All this talk on what to call the next one!

I reckon, on this one, I'm going to be all non-democratic and just think of something all by meself.... unless one of the other mods of this forum gets there first... :(

Oh, and this is a nice tee....

Holy crap, ever see this guy? In this video he's built a room for Neo Geo AES collecting - just 10 games away from a full set.

Almost finished a Megadrive full set. His NES and n64 ones are complete!

I think he may an oil baron...!

Seems he also has crap loads of cabs. Lucky git!

Fecking Australian upswing at the end of his sentences would drive you insane. Everything is a question!

I vote "5 Star General retro discussion"

if I can bring the thread back to the issue of Lara Croft and depiction of rape and sexual assault in games for a moment...

there is no reason why such topics can't be addressed in games if handled maturely and sensibly just as they are in other forms of media, equally when they are salacious or offensive they should be called out on it, just as other forms of media are. As ever the problem here is a lack of understanding, it was clear from reading that metro article that no one who commented had seen the trailer in question so literally did not know what they were talking about. furthermore the perception that games are for children or underdeveloped man-children still abounds, even dare I say it, amongst developers and publishers of games. We've a long way to go.

For what it's worth my own opinion on the trailer is that the scene in question is unnecessary and bordering on the puerile I would think that it is intended to characterize Lara (or Laura as the seem to call her in the trailer) as weak and vulnerable so that her moments of bad assery and triumphs over adversity are all the more impressive. I think it misses that target and to use something as serious as rape and sexual assault in such a manner is inappropriate when considered in the context of the consequences such crimes have on their victims.

I don't think games should shy away from broaching such topics - but it should only be encouraged if it's handled in an intelligent way.
    +1, just like RoR

Why the ****ing isn't anyone talking about soccer games? It's Euro 2012?

The first soccer game that seriously impressed me, was genuinely challenging to play

The commentary was the best part.

"THAT BOY HAS A STEEL SKULL."

    Also.

Brilliant intro. Great idea. Until it got down to gameplay, when it was just poor. Bring one country all the way through the qualification process to the World Cup finals in France. Me and a friend of mine played this religiously for about 2 or 3 years, always trying to take Ireland to the final, and we did it once and won. The fact that you can't put life achievements like this on a CV makes me bitter about life in general.

    Football games?
None of your PES/FIFA whatever rubbish
Microprose Soccer on the C64 is your only man!

(some people will tell you it's successor Sensible Soccer is better. These people are wrong)

What about the super r@re Actua Soccer?? ;)

Sensi Soccer is an easy choice, but I strangely have joy-joy feelings for Fifa on the 3DO... used to use it to show off my Dolby Pro Logic amp.... good times....

Marco's Magic Football is still probably the only remotely soccer related game I've ever enjoyed.

I've reached a zen like state where I have learned to appreciate the football simulators role in the world. Doesn't mean I have any interest whatsoever in actually playing them, of course.

Remember that Mr Posh Spice piece of tat they made, think it was on the GBA...
I only own a few Fifas by accident now, for the various 16 bit machines, same with the PS, I think I may have one.
Also have Pro Evo 6 for the 360, but that was bought for two reasons, a misguided attempt to "man up" and it was selling for 6.99..... never played....

Sensible Soccer is still one of my favourite games, though I still play ISS Pro on PS1 and ISS 64 and they still play great. FIFA is undoubtedly king these days, though had a lot of fun playing Pro Evo in Japan last year against people around me and via net play. They sure do love their football over there!

They do indeed. I heard the best Japanese soccer game ever made never got released here though. Well, maybe not the best, but very realistic and good rival to Pro Evo/FIFA, came from Namco.

Sony had a few attempts to break into the soccer market, This Is Football was a series that was flogged til dead on the PS2, tons of money spent but always outclassed by Evo and Fifa.

Microprose Soccer on the C64 is the best football game ever made.

I always wanted Oman to win the world cup. Never won it with them though. :(

TBH the only copies of FIFA I've bought have basically been for the replacement clamshell boxes (or ps3 boxes for when I get review copies of ps3 stuff in a dvd slip and want them to look nice).Never more than a quid.Zero resale value have sports titles, especially 'disposable' ones like FIFA.
I remember my brother got the original FIFA for Christmas back when it came out on the megadrive , and it was great , until we realised the 'keeper bug and could pretty much score at each other at will...

TBH the only reason I knew Oman existed was because of Microprose!
