    Pardon my ignorance, but I'm new to Minecraft and not that computer literate! Can anybody tell me how to set up a game where my 10 year old son and his friend can play one another. I looks as if I should set up direct multiplayer (how?) or is it better to host up a server just for the 2 of them?

    I presume by Direct Multi player you mean Server Multiplayer? Well your Son would have to go onto the internet and find out the "IP Address" or "Domain name" of the server he wants to play on - The boards ip is 78.137.161.116

    His friend would have to do the same. Once you have found the IP go to multiplayer and add server. Put in the Name and below enter the IP or Domain name.

    HOWEVER some server such as the Boards server require you "whitelisted" to play on them ie - you post your in game name asking to play on it here in the thread, an Admin should reply to tell you you have been whitelisted and you can play.

    For Playing Locally, ie on the same network you would have to download the necesary software from the Minecraft website, and create a local server. The ip should be to whichever computer on which it is created ie 192.168.1.1 and the friend would need to be on your network to join it.

    To join and internet server is easier imo

    It seems someone has raided my chest in my little underground starting bunker at X45.6 Y70.6 Took some stone pick axes, stacks of cobble and iron ore as well as 2 or 3 steaks and wood planks. Can't really say much though as I didnt have it locked. Just thought I would inform you.

    Nevermind they have re-appeared after I logged. Strange.

    The next version of Minecraft (updates are free) will allow you to set up a multiplayer game on your computer and have your friends easily join you.
    The disadvantage of this (as opposed to the Internet-hosted server like the Boards.ie server) is that both players need to be online at the same time in order to play.

    Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago , said no flying allowed, Didn't think falling to your death counted as flying :P
