Considering it was only €3 last night.... Yes I do. It'll cost around €5.50 from a mobile now

Just got an e-mail from them aswel explaining it

Just add €5 to the asking price of the car if you're that upset about it

It's still cheap for what it is... but its a fair old jump in price at the same time. Still though, its the only way to sell a car.

Carzone charge 30 euro don't they?

Jese, I know its a recession but seriously, they are still cheaper, by a huge amount, then any other car sales website and are still the best place, again, by some distance to get your car viewed.

    Its a moot complaint IMO.

    What do adverts.ie charge?

Jesus lads, I know it's a great site and all but to suddenly jump 66% in price without any improvements on the site (Such as removing retards who use search terms)

If they may sort out that ****e, I'd have no trouble paying the extra... BUT charging more for a service which hasn't been improved?

But on adverts all you're offered is a stick of juicy fruit and a Rover 200 as a p/x on whatever you're selling.

which is better than what you would be offered on donedeal in my experience!

indeed, which is why donedeal can up the price, I thought adverts is about 3 per car add too but wasn't sure.

Could be the beginning of the end for them. There is always someone else to take over if you get greedy. Sure its cheaper than others but thats a major jump in price and given the format, its not directly comparable with normal car listing sites - your ad falls down the order in quick time and so becomes less visible.
As someone said above, with the price increase, you would like to see major improvement in the search facility. If I search for a M5, I dont want to look at a page of bangers.

It might mean less crap ads and pisstakes now that it costs the price of a pint.

Its only cars bikes , caravans and larger vehicles that have raised in price, so in comparison to others just doing cars their pretty on the money cost wise.

They have also Dropped the price of advertising in near 90 sections to €1
Cant argue with that, I have sold a couple of cars of it and plenty of other stuff, regardless of its issues (of which there are a few) , Imho Its the only site worth advertising on if you actually want to sell something.

Well I think they're getting greedy uneccessarily. Has anyone ever done the approximate maths for what donedeal.ie is making on cars alone? It's raking it in and all they're doing is running a website.

The reduction is pricing for other items is a fair point. I wasnt aware of that. Still, in the times we are in, any business needs to be making themselves more cost efficient and as competitive as possible. Perhaps this is what they are doing, it just seems like a bad move for me as the public perception can be an important factor. I dont know the % breakdown of DD ads in the various sectors so dont know how this move affects DD revenue but it is well known for its car ads and as such this price increase might be more noted than the other reductions.
An opportunity for Buyandsell to hit back perhaps with a slick campaign?

Carzone had the market cornered for a time. Everyone thought the price reasonable and the ad stayed there until sold. They changed the pricing structure and was never the same again.

This. It's very, very annoying. What do they think it will do?

Oh. I've searched for a 2011 BMW but I think I'll buy this 1996 Civic instead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,911 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

Well as much as I LOVE to bitch, I can't here. 5eu is still small fee to advertise in the biggest and only place where you can buy or sell car.
Carzone and autotrader is just an AD graveyard. I don't even bother anymore after calling to ask about car and just to be told that cara was sold month ago...

I was about to have a rant about this being a 66% rise in price(Assuming the c ost of all ads had gone up to €5) but seeing that they've dropped the prices on other things to just €1, it starts to make a bit of sense. If you're selling a car worth thousands, €5 isn't too bad for such a popular site IMHO.

They're doing a small bit of advertising on the television as well so I can only see donedeal getting more popular.

Not so long ago, practically the only place to sell a car was carzone(Which used be about €30) but donedeal changed that.

Plenty of other sites where you will sell your stuff too.

You will sell you car on carzone.ie
You will sell stuff on adverts.ie and buyandsell.ie

Funnily enough, with buyandsell looking like donedeal they must be seeing an opportunity here.

It depends which you consider more greedy though, charging two more Euro on some of your advertisments, and 2 euro less on others. Still being cheaper that most your viable competition.

Or is it greedier for someone not to want to spend a fiver to sell their car.... ?

I advertise the same things on Adverts, Buyandsell , Donedeal, Gumtree and a couple of others. Donedeal sells about 6 or 7 times more than the rest of those sites Combined (if not more).. so there's no comparison for me.

Lads, this is really simple. If you feel that another site offers better value for money then use them instead. If you feel that donedeal still offers the best value then pay the €5. The fact that it was €3 yesterday is entirely irrelevant.

Yeah, put it this way, this is bad news for some one trying to sell their €600 car, but very good news for someone trying to sell their €600 iPhone :)

For most people selling a car worth, say, several thousand euro, this is just the cost of a coffee down your local garage. Donedeal has been the only place to sell cars for a couple of years now, that increased popularity will inevitably lead to price increases obviously, I think the new pricing structure makes perfect sense.
