Who do you think Wenger will sign this Summer?

    We've already got Podolski.

I expect a keeper we've never heard of to come in as a #2.

And someone like M'Vila but not him as we won't pay a large amount for him.

All of which completely ignores the massive weaknesses we have going forward. van Persie needs decent back up which he won't get and we absolutely need another option than Ramsey/Rosicky in the #10 role. Which we also won't get.

Had been hoping Wenger had plans to snap up Hoilett this summer. Disappointing news.

On paper it doesn't look a bad team. Not sure about Ramsay, Ox and Walcott are ok, if Walcott could use his pace properly.

    Is Gibbs good enough?

Verthongen wouldn't have been a bad buy for ye, could cover LB too.

Will Wilshire be back for the start of the new season ?

He's a proper talent to be fair and Would be like a new signing.

He was that price because his contract was up and he is under 23 so it is compensation.

He also played in Germany and scored against monchengladbach so they were well aware of him.

Still surprising though that he wasn't really linked to many English clubs lately.

It would have been significantly higher compensation had he stayed in England, so maybe priced a few out.

Best of look to him over there.

He sure is and I can guarantee Wenger will say that come July/August.

How much did spurs pay everton for Saha in January ?

Bit strange that he's been released after only a few months.

I don't think they paid anything

    That would make sense alright.

I'm wondering if the release has anything to do with his tweets after Chelsea won the euro...

He's certainly capable of doing a job at spurs just find it a bit odd he was only given a few months.

He scored a few goals too I think.

Seems they took over the last 6 months of his contract and Everton got Pienaar on loan. A bit unusual.

Wilshere had an knee op there a week or too ago, had a pic up of twitter of him on crutches after it.

Also was Pat Rice assistant manager? Has he been replaced?

He was assistant coach, replaced by Steve Bould.

Give it another month - when the transfer window is actually open.

There are rumours going around linking Michael Laudrup with the vacant Swansea job. They haven't made an official approach for him yet.

Any idea what he's like as a manager? One of the greatest player of all time but his managerial record doesn't seem to be all that great. The only time he seems to have gotten any success was in Denmark with Brondby. I'd have doubts as to whether he'd last in the PL.

I remember quite vividly the Getafe team he coached a good few seasons ago. They were very good to watch and he did quite well with both in the league and Europe. There was talk of him coaching Real soon after.

Mallorca did very well to keep to them up, and worked under very difficult circumstances (this was stressed on Revista most weeks on Sky) both on and off the pitch. I think that was the season there was talk of Mallorca going into administration too. Stand to be corrected on that one.

His time in Russia was his only blot really, wouldn't know much about him during there though tbh.

United have announced agreement with Dortmund and Kagawa, deal will be completed once a medical and workpermit have been sorted. Could be a delay on the workpermit as I don't think he has played the required number of games, but it should be granted on appeal.

Any more on a potential Baines deal Mitch?

Nice one Mitch. He would, I presume, be classed as a special talent for appeals. Or is there easier ways around it?

My sincere congrats to United for getting Kagawa. He is a jewel and worth every penny.

But you won't get another Borussia Dortmund player though ;)

You'd imagine he certainly would. Who was the player a few years back that Arsenal tried to sign but couldn't get a permit for? Even as a special talent.

can someone explain to me the logic of footballers not being given work permits?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,949 ✭✭✭Samich

Mark Gonzalez couldn't get one for Liverpool a few years back, thought he was a good player but turned out muck enough.

A work permit is given to a footballer so they offer a significant contribution in footballing development.

They have to have played in 70% of internationals in the last 2 years and their country has to be in the top 70 world rankings.

Same reason anybody coming into the EU wouldnt get a work permit, there is (and should be) no exceptions for footballers. If they turn out to be crap and cannot be shipped out then goverment will have to support them.

Doesnt give him the right to travel within the EU, its the same as if a Japanese engineer came to work here, if he wanted to visit London he would have to get a visa and if he wanted to get a job in London it is up to the Brits if they give him a permit. Just because the Germans let somebody into the country doesnt mean that another country in the EU should. A player of his standard shouldnt have too much of a problem now!

    England isn't in the EU.
