Spotted this Dino in the car park under Tesco Maynooth when I was in Ireland at Easter.

The rest are taken in Sweden, most of them today.

There was a green Aston Martin Lagonda clamped opposite Elvery's on Stephen's Green this afternoon. Tried to get a photo but my phone crashed instead :(

Funny looking car (not my photo)

    Lagonda_1842708c.jpg

The nose reminds me a bit of a Jaguar XJ whose design has been "snapped to grid" and extruded in some CAD tool.

    Rare spot that Dino.

They seem to love their yank tanks in Sweden.

I hope to get to the Vasteras Big Meet in the next year or two. Have you been?

Yeah at a guess I'd say that probably over 60% of classics here are Yanks with Saabs and Volvos making you a big part of the rest.

They traditionally hit the road around May 1st. for the summer. That's only a small selection of what I have seen in the last few weeks but now when I say "Oh look!" my 5 y.o. daughter replies, "No daddy no more photos!" :o

The ford scene is rotten with ringers. I wouldnt take much notice of the first Escort though, many rapid ones were built from lowly 1.1 populars.

and there's only 1 genuine Irish reg road going MK2 RS1800 DZP 700

That Escort van is a '79 reg,
I own a car with a WCI reg a few numbers below that one and it's a '79;)

They still look better than ZV 66783 or 78-D-120034 ;)

All Mark 2 Escorts are saloons and that one is obviously a rebuild. Do you know how rare genuine RS 1800 Escorts are?

1 IID Sierra could be a rebuild too. I know of plenty of 3dr 1.6 Sierras that went for such rebuilds. I cant find information on the car to say its a 5 door model also. Maybe you can explain?

Ford Escort van WCI 979 was first registered in October 1979 and its registered as a van.

Get your facts straight before you go accusing people.

I'm well aware how rare they are ;)

So your saying someone converted a 1.6 5 door Sierra to a 3 Door Cosworth? Some skill there :pac:

According to DoneDeal the van is 1971, Appolagises I don't know Irish Reg Years.

This is what I use to check them, http://www.donedeal.ie/donedeal/publish/vehicleLookup.jsp

  • Registered Users Posts: 290 ✭✭Basil Fawlty

I really wouldnt go accusing someone of using a 5 door book on a 3 door car just because of what done deal says. Im not saying that these things never happen but I would give someone the benefit of the doubt. Especially in the Ford scene as it along with others like VW and BMW are regularly modified cars. Ive done plenty of conversions over the years myself. 1.1 Fiestas into XR2 replicas, Capris with cossie V6s Granadas etc.

Anyway could anyone be that stupid to but a real cossie on an old plate? I mean there were so few of them here brand new.

You shouldn't make that accusation. The registration database contains a lot of misinformation.

My own vehicle is listed as a five door, with the wrong model name.

It is listed as a model that was not in production the year my vehicle was produced so it is obvious there is a mistake.

Many of the mistakes are not present on the original brown logbooks. My logbook contains the correct information, while the computer database is wrong.

I think its unfair and unwise to slander people online on the basis of an inaccurate database.

If you are buying the car, obviously you need to clarify any error like that but otherwise I think people should mind their own business.

Right or wrong, Revenue have made this into a quagmire - I've said it before, a mate tried to import a 3dr Cossie before
    '€3k' said Revenue,
'how much for a 4 dr Cossie '€800'
    'Why's that ?'
'Our 'expert' tells us the 3dr is a 'Collector's car' :D

Best bet was get a (rare) 3dr Sierra L and Cossie it up. Built a Fiesta once from a 10mth old write off , no chassis no. on new shell so cut the old one and welded it into the space

If Revenue were more transparent, then I'm sure people wouldn't mind paying a 'fair' rate of tax like the UK.

Ireland is a small country, and 3 door cossies are far and few between.
Its been in the country since 1986, so I'm sure there are plenty of photos of it on that reg somewhere;).

And that rear number plate should be really be black on white for asthetics sake.

the trouble is that so many cars have been ringed using old books (and it must run into 4 figures at this stage I would guess), that the authenticity of any original Irish-reg car tends to get doubted.

It's a great shame that original cars have been ,and still are being, devalued in this way and at the same time all of us being defrauded of VRT etc that rightfully should have been paid. I have paid VRT on dozens of imports and I quite resent others dodging it..

1 IID would appear to be a 'special' request, so possibly it was a Ford Main Dealer ordering one for himself . I get a very Republican feeling when I see the red plates, a time when there was no Euro, and no many other things that have brought the country to its knees :cool:

( In Singapore they use red plates for vehicles that aren't used weekdays ( cheaper road tax )

But it is not just VRT that is being dodged. Newer cars are being driven under vintage tax.

If a tax is 'fair', then people will usually pay it - but people are not mugs and when they see across the border that car import is so cheap and easy then they're going to try to avoid an 'unfair' tax.
Yes, taxes have to be paid BUT Govt. should try to make taxes equitable and TRANSPARENT - not just fritter taxes away throgh waste and mismanagment

It is a fair tax so long as everyone is liable for it and everyone pays their share.

What about taxes they have above the border and we don't (yet)? Council tax or whatever they call it, what I call "Rates" as I'm a bit old-fashioned.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,499 ✭✭✭Capri

Taxes throughout the world are levied on different things - eg Church tax in Germany.
It would be great for Irish expats to contribute a 'cost of living/taxes' feature to the Times or Indo just to see where we stand in the world ( even fuel thru most of the EU is dearer than here )
