Scott(y) Parker is one of the most over-rated midfielders of his generation. He's a decent solid player.

Here are some form the top of my head who have been better.:

    Yakubu
    Mata
    Jelavic
    Aguero
    Cisse
    Ba
    Crouch
    McClean
    Graham
    Sigurdsson
    Santon
    Cabaye
    Arteta
    Pogrebnyak
    Clichy

Ok well 4 of them weren't signed in 2011. Santon was injured for about 5 months, came in, looked ropey, got dropped. Gael Clichy was signed on massive money and has been in and out of the team.

It kinda seems like you just named 15 footballers and hoped for the best.

    Must try harder.

24 appearances for Santon after being injured and looked good too when he came back.

Im still laughing that you think Parker was the signing of 2011.

    Cringe.

Haha, do we need to go through your list again? Comedy.

There were actually some good signings there, but on the law of averages there kinda had to be. I really don't think you woulda done much worse if you had picked names out of a hat. Gael Clichy! He probably did well in fantasy football I suppose.

    Hang your head.

Is he a good midfielder? I know he can score goals, but is he just another Tim Cahill/Clint Dempsey type?

What? Really good player type? Yeah he's one of them...

Great at making runs into the box but contribute sod all to build up play or basic midfield work type?

I'm not saying he is, just wondering. Haven't seen much of him apart from his goals.

Been saying this for awhile now. Puyol can't be depended on to stay fit. Pique has been a bit all over the shop this past season at times. Maybe they are holding out for Fontàs, Muinsea and co. to eventually take over but I don't think they can take that chance.

If by some chance he does sign permanently for them, I expect him to move to a bigger club for at least double fee that next year.

    Better signings than Scott Parker.

Excuse me while a hold no place for your sentiments on this matter. It's scary to think that some people actually believe that Scott Parker was the signing of 2011.

Ba went on a good goal streak before Christmas, then did ok in a wider role after Christmas. Time will tell. His knees are dodgy.

Hasn't had a single injury this season.

Benfica have confirmed the signing of Ola John from FC Twente. Five year deal, undisclosed fee, €45M release.

Rumors are that the fee is between 9-12M euros. Exactly what Benfica need ie: some pace and a final ball from the wings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,754 ✭✭✭SlipperyPeople

sounds good. he has been tipped in the past to be a good player ola john

I don't know why but I have a soft spot for benfica in the last couple of years since di maria was with them and have been looking out for their results.

Still glad we (chelsea) knocked them out of the CL though :p

Bayern have made a bid for Matias Suarez of Anderlecht. Nice signing for whoever gets him this Summer!

I am surprised one of the champions league clubs didn't go for him. I think he even qualifies as a home grown player.

Such a big transfer for Swansea, I'd say it's a calculated risk knowing they could double their money.

Gylfi Sigurðsso to Swansea on permanent deal it seems.

    Swansea agreed a £6.8million fee for Siggy . That's a bargain IMO

They sold him for exactly what they paid 2 years ago, maybe even less.

    F**king idiots they are.

Lads Sigurdsson has only played 18 games for Swansea, yes he's looked very good but I'm sure there's plenty of players who have played well for half a season :P

Not sure if mentioned, but Valencia have signed Guardado from Depor and Atléti have picked up Cristian Rodríguez on a free. Both potentially good transfers in my opinion.

So. He has been brilliant in those games. 7 goals and 5 assists in 18 games is great. Also he only started 13 games for Hoffenheim and he was given their POTY a year ago.

He single-handedly won them games away from home. Up until then they were rubbish on the road. I know they played the top teams towards the start of the season but he brought a more attacking dimension to the team.

He has one of the best strikes of the ball in the league and he has very nearly perfected the late run into the box from midfield. He only played half the games but he had more goals from outside the box than almost every other player in the league.

This is a brilliant piece of business for Swansea. They needed him to really make a go of the league next year and challenge for a top-10 spot at the least.

With a full pre-season behind him he could be a real force next year.

I can't believe Hoffenheim have let him go so cheaply.
