Thanks. Saves me asking the question in a few weeks time. Also looking forward to visiting the BrewDog bar that has opened up recently, but somehow I think I'll enjoy your suggestions more.

Had the Moonraker by JW Lees last night and really enjoyed. Especially as I found a whiskey to go with it that perfectly complimented it.

Very tasty if a bit on the sweet side but suited my mood perfectly and the single cask Springbank that I had to accompany it.

This is a very dark beer and to me resembled a Stout. But I have to admit my beer knowledge is very basic.

So question, what is the difference between a Dark strong Ale and a Stout?

The label ;). They're all just marketing terms when it comes down to it.

 Thanks, thank god for Marketing men or we'd all just be drinking beer ;)

Old Engine Oil is the classic example: it went from being a "Dark Beer" to a "Black Ale" to a "Porter" over the course of a couple of years. These would have meant different things once upon a time but modern breweries regard them as totally interchangeable now.

drinking a bottle of Birra Rossini and not enjoying it. Sometimes a gamble on Aldi beers pays off but not this time I'm afraid. Tis like old washing up liquid :(

If you're in Manchester, then a visit to http://www.portstreetbeerhouse.co.uk/ is essential. It has a huge beer list and they'll probably have some stuff you won't find elsewhere. Around the corner from it is the Marble Brewery bar which carries loads of Belgian & German stuff along with it's own cask and bottled beers.

I have now had 64 different beers since arriving in New Zealand. I am getting extremely fat.

Highlights have included 8 Wired iStout, Garage Projects Trip Hop, 8 Wired HopWired IPA, Renaissance Elemental Porter, Moa Methode and Tuatara Pilsner

I'm in Szechuan in China at the moment and they have all sorts of weird beers here. Came across this beauty last night. I think it is having an identity crisis. :)

It was actually cheaper to buy them both from the online store. Still not cheap but I got both for less than the price places charge for STB over here.

It's my second time having TNP but first for Sink. Looking forward to opening it.

    Awful shit.

    This week I'm trying:

Flying Dog's Raging Bitch 10% (60 IBU) - Very tasty, hoppy and light.
Great Divide's Double Hercules IPA 10% - Lovely hoppy start, chocolate toffee mid tones/finish. Well worth the €5 per 330ml.
Flying Dog's Classic IPA 5.5% - Nice, but not tasty enough imo.
Confab's Chilli Ginger Beer - 5.6% - Lovely, but not for general release.

Mostly from McHugh's - GB from Confab's Brewery.

Brewdog Punk IPA in a can...can't explain it, but it somehow tastes better IMHO ?!

Tried some "Badger Fursty Ferret" last night.

Not very impressed at all. Shame I bought 5 to be honest. Still have 3 to drink today

Because cans are better than bottles for beer. They keep the light out.

Terrapin Hopsecutioner India Pale Ale loving this hoppy beer in draught in the US at the moment.

At 7.2% I have to be carefull to just have 1-2.

Just finished a Thwaites celebration ale, nice but lacked something. I seem to much prefer the extra hoppiness of the American IPA's

Fully agree there, I much rather American IPAs to English ones. Though BrewDog(Scottish) make some very good ones.

Had a bottle of Knockmealdown Porter earlier and it was way over carbonated, a mate was complaining about this recently, disappointing but ok once you leave it sit for a bit.

Have a Samuel Adams Noble Pils, slightly heavier mouthfeel then expected, good clean flavours and a decent european hop bite. None of the after taste I associate with some other pils I've had. Nicer than expected, a decent summer beer even for someone who prefers ales.

Got a gift of an Innis and Gunn Irish Whiskey Cask (which Ive had before) and an Innis and Gunn Rum Cask (which I havn't) which I'm looking forward to.

Just noticed someone mentioned Harviestoun beers on the 1st page of this thread. Had a few of the lager last night, really tasty.

Off to a stag in Edinburgh in 2 weeks. Hopefully a few of the pubs stock it.
