I just hope the managerial situation is clarified either way asap tbh.

    Sick of hearing about it.

That's the sound of a nail being hit on the head right there.

God I don't know if my blood pressure could take Rafa being back at the club.

If we're not in the top 4 at Christmas, retards will call for his head.

If we are in the top 4, retards will call for his head for not having us top of the league.

yup, never a truer word spoken.

it's only on everyone involved as well, and i'm actually quite confident the owners will make an announcement soon enough - as soon as they've met with Kenny; which will, i assume, probably be this week.

The good news is Rafa won't be back so your blood pressure will be just fine.

FSG do need to make their position on Kenny known pretty quickly I agree. He better be able to give one hell of a power point presentation!

Rafa..... would he really escalate us back to the top 4?

He was pretty good at getting us up there the last time....

Apologies if it's a repost. Nice compilation video of Stewart Downing's goals and assists throughout his 35 games from the 2011/2012 Premiership campaign.

I don't like this manager until he has shown his experience at another top club. Been hearing the likes of that a lot in here lately. Why would the manager come to us if they are doing well at a top club?
I think it's time we tried a non-established manager and not an experienced one. Someone who is showing promise and a real hunger for the game.

I was waiting for Rick Astley....!

Oh I don't know. If Kenny is in charge for next season, then that's fine by me, but if Rafa was to return it would be interesting to see how he does with a better budget than that of his last two or three seasons, and also with his "supposed" internal critics comig towards the end of their playing careers.

If, and it is only an if for the sake of conversation, Kenny is out the door/moved upstairs, then either of the two most rumoured names would keep me happy.

The most rumoured name is Rafa, and I think he would come back a stronger and wiser man to the Rafa of the 09/10 season, plus he would be coming back to a far healthier club with the behind the scenes boardroom/owner problems gone.

The second most rumoured name, and one who was offered the job at one point (something the man himself and his club have confirmed and Liverpool have never denied) is Deschamps. At 43 years of age (turns 44 in late Fall) he would certainly fall into the talented young manager bracket. He has already managed Monaco, Juventus, and Marseilles. He has shown that he is tactically sound at domestic level in those countries and in European competition, plus he knows how to win silverware as a manager and as a player he has no shortage of silverware to his name either including in England. His favoured formations are actually quite close to what Kenny moulded the Liverpool team into from about '87 onwards, sort of a pliable 4-3-3, and all of his teams seem to develop a fantastic spirit in terms of fighting to the final whistle.

For me both men tick a lot of boxes. Experienced, track record of winning silverware, tactically sound more often than not, and maybe both with points to prove.

There are dream options out there like Klopp, but realistically we are not going to get a manager of Klopp's ability to leave Dortmund unless something huge happens behind the scenes there, although there is a little bit of a rumour floating about in the German media since yesterday that suggests that three big names from that team have had Man Utd contact Dortmund about them with the father of one (Hummels) being given the nod by Dortmund to speak with United.

Just to set the record straight, the video is not of Rick Astley! Although Astley might have banged in a goal or two, at least an assist.

    Never gonna give you up
    Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
    Never gonna make you cry

    Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Three improvements on Downing, right there.

true.... said something similar myself a while back. He has had sometime to think about certain things he may have done differently etc etc & I think he would jump at a second chance ...

    FSG's options are:
    • Hire a well-known established manager, and invest all available money in a decent transfer budget instead of building a stadium this year.
    • Hire an up-and-coming manager who'd be willing/able to get the best out of the squad we have now with a few more shrewd additions, and build a stadium.
    • Sell the club to someone who'll do one of the above.

I don't consider anything else to be an acceptable option, except of course for building a stadium AND bringing in the right manager and players (a combo of the first two) or redeveloping Anfield. Neither of these are very likely though.

You are bang on the money. Yes, the team has underperformed, but the glimpses of form we have shown lately make it pretty clear that we are starting to click and that we are going in the right direction. From what I can see, we are really only 1 key player away from making a title challenge.

GK - Reina - easily one of the best in the league.
LB - Enrique - his form has dipped, but he has shown enough to demonstrate he is one of the best in the league at left back.
CB - Agger/Skrtel - when Agger is fit and has games, he is one of the best in the league. Skrtel has the odd error, but he has been immense this season. Both top 4 players easily.
RB - Johnson - top 4 definitely and certainly very close to the level of Sagna, who is the best in the league.
CM - Lucas - best defensive midfielder in the league, bloody key player.
CM - Gerrard - any team in the league would have him, world class.
CM - Henderson/Shelvey - between these two lads for the position. Henderson has been improving gradually and showing real class while Shelvey seems to have more explosiveness. One of these will definitely become a key player.
LW - Suarez - if not for suspension and our poor form, Suarez would have over 20 goals, vital player.
FF - Carroll - really started to link up well with Suarez in a Drogba battering ram role. I feel he will really deliver next season.
RW - Downing(?) - Bellamy and Maxi are too old, Downing has disappointed that is why there are question marks around him. If we could get the likes of a Jesus Navas or a Kagawa, we would really complete the team.

Really, either Downing steps it up, or we bring in a proven winger like Navas or Kagawa. The only other position that needs strengthening is central midfield. Gerrard and Lucas pick themselves, so surely one from Shelvey/Henderson/Adam/Spearing/Aquilani can play their way into the team?

troll? 27 points off bottom , 37 points off top, 17 points off 4th.... unless that 1 key player is Lionel Messi or God then you should lay off the pills!!
You seem to forget that we beat United, City, Arsenal and Chelsea this season. What has let us down is the ability to put the poorer teams away. One quality attacking player could make all the difference for us next season.

You can't honestly believe that one player is going to lift Liverpool to a title challenge.
