I live in Mallow.. I happen to know a lot of people in this videos.. A lot of people from around the country are acting pretty bad towards this.

I would just like to make a quick point. We see this everyday and are completely used to it. This one did honestly get out of hand but these races are quite common.

Also, the majority of Mallow people found this hilarious.

Ohh yes hilarious.... all it needed was someone to come the other way OBEYING the speed limit in a perfectly legal car and we would have seen many people dead

These people are below contempt to be honest , they bleat on and on about their ' rights ' , what they should realise that with rights comes responsiblities .

    What should happen....

Sulkies should be removed from those responsible and destroyed.
Horses removed from those people .
Cars , if not taxed insured , should be removed and crushed
Drivers , if they have a licence this should be revoked. If not then they should be jailed.

    What will happen

Token arrests..... released on bail , they disappear .
    Legal bills paid by us
Bleeding heart liberals bleat on about their ' culture'

I would agree, I ride a sports bike and wouldn't stand a chance if i came face to face with one of these going around a bend in the opposite direction..

It needs to be seriously regulated, a time and place designated for them and full cooperation with the law. If they can hold motorcycle road racing events I couldn't see it a problem this. Unregulated it should be criminal with animals impounded before someone gets killed. ..

Article in the examiner today saying they have identified many of the people involved, and that arrests will happen over the next couple of days.

Hopefully they are all rounded up and locked up.

I know what I would have done if driving one of those artic lorries. I would have creamed the van on the wrong side of the road too if possible. Scum of the earth there.

You can be sure they would make an insurance claim using their insurance provider - the Motor Insurance Bureau of Ireland - and probably win!!

At the very least your insurance policy would be tied up for 2-3 years whilst the claim is processed regardless of whether the ultimate claim is successful.

Oh and AGS will probably prosecute for driving without due care or similar...

They will just head to a horse fair and get another one and if introduced licences to own a horse they would just ignore that law too.

I live in dublin , and driving around the place is like something from big brother , if I'm 5 mph over the speed limit , fine and points - a few minutes late on parking , bang - ticket or clamp - so yeah i find it funny what happened in Mallow , we are in the same country ?

I agree I used to live in Dublin and recently moved to Limerick - the roads are lawless down here compared to Dublin. No garda presence at all!!
Major differences. So much for zero tolerance.
I think an earlier post pointed it out - Ireland is full of double standards when it comes to the law of the land and until Judges wake the hell up we're going down the route of other lawless 3rd world countries.

Sure we are a 3rd world country - look at the mountain of debt we have now!!!
This is the beginning of the end of a lawful Ireland - time for us all to bolt up and load up - we're all going to need to defend ourselves. Vigilante stylee!:D

please let us know when these arrests happen. I'm not sure if i can hold my breathe much longer tho  (not a dig at you by the way, have just lost any faith that anything will be done about this)

Culture my arse. Get real lads, do what ya's want on your campsites, but leave the rest of us out of it. There's nothing i hate more than this "ah sure i don't need to worry about that law" attitude.

I think its quite funny how far chariots have fallen in social status from historic times.

    This.

People who say, "if I was driving the artic I would have....", yeah right. No you would not in reality. I know the point they were trying to make and I know it was used as more of a figure of speech but the cold reality is that the travellers probably didn't even have insurance in the first place.
This is where you crash the car, get sued and pay for someone else's claim all in the space of one minute when you see them coming around the corner on the wrong side of the road.
As for the other lad saying that the cops couldn't arrest them, ffs.
All those cars should be impounded too.
    CAB - don't discriminate now!
Where did they get the money to buy all those cars?

Ah, in a perfect world eh?

According to Pavee Point ( ) sulky racing is traveller tradition

They condemned what happened on the video and said there were facilities elsewhere in the country to accommodate the racing.

The racing isn't the problem, it's everything else that happened around it, location, dangerous driving etc. I don't give a toss about peoples traditions as long as they don't infringe on others.

This was linked on the closed thread on the Motors Forum:

    http://www.youtube.com/user/MrHot2trot/videos

One vid shows a race on the inbound Naas Road near Baldonnell with a backlog of cars being forced to stay behind the race by the rear guard.

If these feckers can get up at 7am on a Sunday morning, have the ability to organise and manage race surely they can get a job. Put the same amount of effort into breaking the law and avoiding taxes and anyone would yield a decent job.

The Media loves the Travellers because only bad news is good news .Travellers sell a lot of Advertising and do they not deserve a part of the revenue ????

One of my first posts in the thread said it would not be long before they were out defending their culture.:D

On a side note what ever chance the Gardai had of making charges stick went out the window when they released the buck they had in for questioning.

Good to know there are facilities available to accommodate animal cruelty.

Ridiculous comment. Maybe instead if blaming the meeja for reporting on things which sell copy, ie their job, you should be asking the majority of the travelling community to tone down their dangerous criminal parasitic scumbagery?

The travelers can be smart when they want to be.

They are well able to upload video footage and place it on UTube.

I wonder how many of them are currently earwigging and participating in this thread. :)

I got caught in the middle of one of these races just outside Carlow town a couple of months ago!

They were racing in front of me, behind me and overtaking me on both sides - all while screaming abuse at me to get out of the way - as if I could! (and me with a 2 year old in the back of the car).

Couldn't even overtake for ages as infront of the race, there were load of vans with young lads hanging out of them recording the whole thing - with the best of cameras!

Reckless endangerment of life? Complete disregard for the law?

    Wow, colour me shocked.

What does it matter how good the cameras are?

I'm always terrified over-taking these feckers on the road, for fear that the horses will spook and crash into me.

A few times I've had close calls when they come flying around dangerous corners and almost crash into me.

There's videos of these people racing 10 month old horses on youtube. 10 months old! These horses will be absolutely crippled from arthritis if they get the chance to reach a decent age. Who cares if the horses have tendon boots? That's to prevent short term injuries - trotting them this fast down a main road will mess them up further down the line - and never mind the risks of them being hit by a car.

I'm sure if they wanted, they could get a little racetrack for themselves made on some common land. Although I'd much rather it be completely barred and have these horses put in good hands.

It matters when its our tax paying for their cameras. Dirty parasites is all they are and they prove it over an over again.

Those horses must be in terrible pain racing on a hard surface too. Then again, animal cruelty is part of their "culture". Scum.
