Tell dearest brother to just bloody well stayed away from those 1.6 diesels.

They're are just not worth the hassle/maintenance required.

They are fine once the DPF is given a chance to regenerate. I would have no qualms of buying a 1.6 that has spent most of its life on the motorway. Its the ones that have spent a life pottering to the shops and back are the problem ones. Much like any new diesel in the last ten years.

We've had two of them in our family with a combined 350k miles and nothing beyond the ordinary has gone wrong. PSA know how to make diesels, people don't know how to drive them.

    TL;DR
They are as reliable as any other modern diesel with a DPF

The turbo units are a common enough failure even with service histories.

A couple of us here have ST's, and yes with a remap and nothing else you can get 270BHP Throw in some induction and exhaust mods and you'll be pushing 300. ;)

Turns out my 8er is down a full bank and at least one cylinder on the remaining side.

Surprisingly it still pulls very well.

Looking at a fairly hefty bill but it is going to be sweet as a nut when its done.

Anyone recommend a good valet service company in Galway that don't charge an arm and a leg and give the fabric seats a good clean and the car a detarring ?

Want to clean the Auld Octavia up real nice before i try selling it.

Lads if anyone has a spacesaver wheel to fit an accord you wana offload gimme a shout :)

Or know where I'd find a set of Dc5 wind deflectors either :)

Melted coil pack identified. Number 6 still has factory plug in there despite an invoice 12 plugs fitted among all the paperwork. Number 6 is famously hard to get at. No faults stored.

edit: I hope its just the coil pack, leads are 360 per side plus vat !

I get 25 normal daily driving, that's some city and some motorway. If you stay off boost you can get more out of it I'm sure, but why would you want to do that. ;)

A friend of mine, got a 1.8D ford fiesta car, on NI reg.

Its like 400 or somthing to change over the plates.

What hes going to do is convert a 5 door fiesta into a van, by welding the back doors shut. Taking out the back seats, welding panels to the back windows. I thought you could only do this to a 3 door?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,721 ✭✭✭E39MSport

Nah. Plenty of the commercials are converted 5 doors.

    Really, oh dear :o

So does that mean when he has it converted, he canchange over the plates as a commercial and pay the 50 euro, I think its 50 euro.

Or must he change the plates first?

afaik, make all the required changes first then get it inspected and hand over the shillings.
