I put 4 new tyres on the Avensis today and dropped it off with my mate to get the anti roll bar bushings done and a few other bits..

Its quite smokey on hard acceleration, any cure for that???

Might just be the way they are, the Mondeo I had was unreal smokey on hard acceleration, the diesel rover wasn't even with the fuel pump wound up and the W124 was practically smokefree.

I think you might be right, its been a while since I drove a old skool daysul. Actually the lad thats doing it has a gorgeous 75 in the yard thats there 5 years parked up. The owner got him to do work on it and never paid him and then left it there. Such a pity to see it rot....

I was looking at that alright, I'd suspect that car could almost be prohibitively expensive to restore properly though.

As for a complete major car rebuild/restoration.......watch this space;)

My memory isn't that bad I remembered what car it was :p

Good to hear, solid engines as far as I can tell - seems to be why they're used so much in drift cars, they can take a fair amount of abuse.

Even still, looking forward to the build thread ;)

Got a nice call in bed at 9am this morning, friend stuck on the M1 20 miles away in his girlfriends Fabia, full to the gills with his E39s wheels and tyres on his way to Dublin for a refurb.

Needle hit the red and not a drop of coolant in the tank. I arrived up with a drum of water which got him back home, we thought there was a leak in the expansion tank, turns out the headgaskets a goner. Bye bye Fabia! Always a shame when the car's not worth fixing.

I'd happily take on a project with the mechanicals blown to bits....but bodywork is beyond my skill set, and those Firebirds can suffer badly with rot.

How are you on electrics, ECUs etc ND? Ever think about doing a crazy engine transplant project?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,924 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

Lads, are evo 7 really that bad on petrol?! Friend told me its 20mpg normal and it can go stupidly low as 5mpg when pushed hard?

The idea of fitting a GM LS series V8 to the S14a was being toyed with we decided to keep it completely factory.

As for other one off electrical work, I wouldn't have done much of it TBH.

I'd have paid you a considerable sum of money NOT to put a V8 in an S chassis, especially an American one.

If there's one thing that pisses me off about western drifting, it's that.

You're more than welcome to slip in an RB mind you. :D

    You've a 1.9TDI B4, right?
If I were you, I'd sell up and buy an IS220d. If you like that idea, get the 175bhp version. :)

I drove an evo 8 for a day, 170 miles to a full tank, wiki says it has an 11 gal tank, so 15.5 mpg. Fun though:D

    Lads,

Dearest brother is looking for a reasonably priced jammer.

Does the 407 (2.0 and/or 1.6 diesel) engine have the same famous reliability?

    Cheers.
