Arrived in for my first exam today nice and early so i could go over my notes. Produced my id card to be told that they don't accept the old id and I that I had to go to student services and get one of those new ones. Bit of joke given there was no problem with using that card at last semesters exams. On the plus side, the expiry date on the my new card is 2017 even though I'm in 4th year, 4 more years of student discounts :D

The fact that we got a whole new way to get results, presumably because of the same problem every year and it's not working!!!

Just saw I got an email in relation to this thread,
Face lit up thinking perhaps someone has an answer to my question,
    Or can at least relate...
Picture the change in expression when not only did I find my question had not been answered, but I subsequently went on to read this,
Initially sympathizing, which was then overwhelmed by an ungodly shiver down my spine which nearly rendered me paraplegic.

It also put things into perspective that things aren't so bad my end,
And I thank you for that at least,
And wish you the best of luck in your endeavours.

UL really has the worst library etiquette in the entire country. It's like nobody has any idea about how to behave themselves in the library. People honestly seem to think it's a cafe judging by the amount of people talking, eating, watching tv and generally making noise.

I think the library staff are absolutely disgraceful. They do almost nothing to prevent noise levels, do not actually ask people to be quiet and even contribute to the noise themselves chatting.

security are absolutely ridiculous, just sit on their arses looking out the window.

I have spent the entire day shushing people, complaining to the library staff and the security staff and all I am met with is either brazen rudeness or blank looks. It's like I've asked them to refrain from breathing asking some people to be quiet in the library. One cheeky fecker even called me a dyke when I had by back turned after politely asking them to be quiet.

I am stuck at the moment not having the ability to study at home.

    Bloody disgrace.

Studying in the library, you might as well pitch up in the middle of a motorway somewhere and get a little more peace and quiet.

Don't know why but I kind of found that funny :D

Headphones are your friend (provided they're on low volume)

You probably find it funny because you're ridiculously immature and should be working in a field not attending a university. I do listen to music, but the sheer NOISE of some of you people rises above it.

it does seems to be worse than usual today...

ill admit im partial to a sneaky sandwich at my desk, but the volume levels have been pretty annoying today...

if your stuck, classical music is great, or a website - http://simplynoise.com/

ya get use to it after a few minutes and blocks out all the sound without distractions of lyrics or beats.

Ambient music is great for blocking out typical library sounds - occasional cough, someone opening a laptop, someone opening a book. It does nothing for entire crowds of people having full length conversations at the tops of their voices.

Should be a mature student only section in the library.

    +1 one on simplynoise.com

Takes a while to get into it but it does drown out everything everyone else and it's kinda relaxing.

bit over the top, and your releasing a bit too much aggro at us! :(

mature are undergrad, so unfortunately, and quite rightly, should not receive any special attention. postgraduate do get special allocations, and rightly so.

for now your stuck in the library. why not just lob into a study room if its that bad? there usually a few of them free now...you can even imagine its a mature student area if that helps :P

Not over the top, someone should bring a decibel monitor in there and show how bloody loud it is. You probably haven't been in a real library for any extended period of time so probably don't realise how ridiculous the UL one is. Wait til the LC arrive.

How do you know if I'm a mature postgrad or undergrad, Mind your own assumptions.

study rooms can only be booked for 3 hours i think.

So bringing a decibel meter into a library to prove a point isn't?

Didn't you just assume I belonged on a field not a university?

Someones gotten their vagina in a twist.

well before you going making assumptions your self ive been sitting in said library since 8am this morning. and all this week, the week previous and probably over the year more than most.

considering you said their should be a mature student section, i did assume, though did so believing it was safe to do so, that you are a mature student at undergrad. I would have believed all postgrads are considered mature no?

now going back to helping you for some reason, you can book rooms for two hours maximum. But what i'm saying is live a little. Go book a room and chance your arm with 2 solid hours of peace. I've seen the bookings for the day after booking for two study sessions myself. The evening appeared to be completely free. Chances are you could stroll in their and keep it to yourself for the evening. Go crazy!

now fair enough this is a bitch about UL page. But you would want to tone it down when talking to people in here who actually listen and try and help.

i am saying you haven't been in a real library before so you don't know what to expect. UL library is a miserable excuse for a library and easily the worst in all Irish universities.

you have been zero help spearo, i recommend you keep your voice down in the library in the future and study for your exams instead of writing pointless posts on the internet.

I have been in libraries in Trinity, DCU, LIT, Cork, Munich, Hanzehodgeschool Groningen, Rjks University, Milan University.....

UL, while it has drawbacks is far from a bad university, and far from a bad library. I find all resources when I need them. While louder than usual today, I've gotten on with it....and its nearly 9pm...its grand now!

But whats annoying me now, is your assumptions about me! I'm not taking them personally cos i know youre on a rant, but would you kindly keep them to yourself please.

There is a fine line between disliking the people who make noise and the noisier moaners.
