Dinner prep - a veritable pile of pulled pork. Many pieces did not make it to plate!

    Bon Appetit Dotcomdolly!

I just checked the ingredients on the olives I bought and there is sunflower oil. That's out I presume?

I thought so but maybe I was mistaken. Maybe it's like palm oil.

Thanks for that Dotcomdolly. Glad it's not excluded. Won't be using it in cooking anyway.

I also had another read of the Whole30 guide and they say sunflower oil is too high in fragile polunsaturated fat to be stable when used in cooking at high temperatures but the olives aren't being heated in it-just some of it in the marinade.

Pfft, that is home made BBQ sauce! :D
I posted the recipe link earlier this week, I left out the stevia.

Jesus - that looks amazing DCD!
What's the taste rating - is it worth the effort?

It was I think, particularly as if wasn't actually all that work intensive, just required some forward planning.
Yesterday I bought the pork and put it in slowcooker from noon till 8pm. Took it out & left to cool overnight.
Then this afternoon I made the sauce - 5 mins to make & 45 mins simmering.
Then near dinnertime I shredded (and sneaked bits of) the meat, threw it in the sauce & simmered it together.
The meat was €10 but I'll get a 2nd dinner for us all out of it. The kids weren't crazy about it but tough titty :D
They had it in crusty bread rolls with corn on the cob, I had mine with spinach as you can see, there was a small sweet potato in there too.

So I checked out the stock in m&s today. Sadly the jars of concentrate do contain sugar. But the pouches of fresh stock do not, sadly they are almost €5.

Hello folks, I used to eat primal for ages but then moved abroad and kinda floundered a bit. I miss Aldi!!

I have settled in by now though and want to get back eating properly and not just for convenience. Well done to everyone so far - Dotcomd - your recipes / photos are fabulous - thank you for sharing! I love cooking too so will try and share some of my own to help with the inspiration.

Quick question if I may: I have a spinach smoothie every morning as I find eating too early doesn't agree with me. Right now it's just spinach + mango - but mango is pretty sugary right? I wonder should I change it to raspberries and throw in some greek yoghurt too. Any suggestions welcome! :)

Are you actually hungry in the morning?

I'm going to channel my inner Jason & say "don't eat til you are hungry and don't drink your food" :)

Thanks kimia :) tbh i think the mango/spinach is the wrong way to go entirely. No protein, just sugary carbs. Try and stick to the rule of thumb of protein+fats+healthy carb. If you can't face food in the morning why not try leaving it till later, intermittent fasting style. Or are you hungry when you wake? Something like softly scrambled egg would be easily digestible.

Funny old day, family went out for the mother in laws birthday. I cried off, I was the only one not there! I thought they were going to the bar restaurant of the hotel but they went to the posh bit, so I probably could have eaten safely. Boo. Oh well I listened to some paleo podcasts while doing some long overdue decluttering. And made some more mayo :)

I had planned to do this awesome looking recipe
    http://fastpaleo.com/primal-meatloaf/
But got a text to say they had a huge lunch so no dinner required. So I adapted an idea of LT's and made egg cupcakes with seranno ham and a layer of fried mushroom and onion under the egg. Served with spring salad from well fed and home made coleslaw.

    3fe97ffb.jpg

    Very tasty.

Thanks everyone. I was drinking the smoothies because I found it an easy way to get more veg into me in a palatable way. It's not that I'm hungry when I wake up but if I don't eat I'm starving by the time I get to work.

I went shopping today and stocked up on SO much meat. I think I'll be changing to cooked chicken for breakfast with a big cup of broccoli soup.

For dinner, I'm out so I'm planning to have a salmon salad with spinach leaves and an avocado salsa. Yum!

Ah didn't think of scratching, definitely jerky. I also said well priced nuts & nut butters. I can't rem what else I said , but it was nice to blather paleo to a strange man with a lovely accent :)

Might be good to do the nut butters with soaked and dried nuts.
Maybe almond milk I've seen it in the shops here and it's pricey. Nuts in bulk so you can make your own nut butter, almond milk, nut flour.
Vacum packed game meat?(might be legal issues selling game meat, you need a licence or something to sell it here) vac packed offal? Chopped thigh bones for broth (probably have to be vac packed too

Unfortunately the cost of mail order becomes a huge issue once shipping is taken into account.

Yeha we talked about that too, told him there was no way I would buy something for £2 for £5 shipping!

    YAY ME!

W30 #2 is over and I lost 7.2lbs and tipped under the next 10lbs :) I have lost 30.2lbs since I started this paleo nonsense on Jan 4th

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52 ✭✭Vooice

Over 2 stone in 3 months - flipping hell LoTwan - that's brilliant! You must be chuffed. You should be! :)

No snack/online food requests from me, thanks, can't think of anything I would need. Kinda thinking along lines of stock cubes or a bbq sauce - but then think I should just make myself! Easier and cheaper. He might get some business from paleo spice mixes though. I make my own batches and store in lunch boxes but there might be a market for it, especially as light so postage would be cheaper.

I've a new snack habit for the past couple of weeks. I buy a box of chicken thighs (think about €2.80 in Lidl), cooked them up and eat cold from the fridge when I fancy it. I've always preferred the taste of cold roast chicken for whatever reason.

Happy 1st day of summer to you all! The rain is splitting the rocks here.
