Hmm I made a build last night on amazon.de and it was €70 more than hardwareversand. Amazon.co.uk was €110 more :(

Well after a couple of days of careful consideration and looking at a lot of reviews I've just ordered these so now it's time to find a decent sound card. I was looking at something like this, I have one 5.25" bay left and it's crying out to be filled with something!!

I get the distinct impression that you disagree with my decision?? Any particular reason(s) why? (*hides under desk*)

He's just pissed because it's a name he recognises (and can pronounce) therefore it's bad. :P

The speakers should be very good but that sound card is awfully over-priced. You could look at something like an Xtreme Audio that would give you all the same features, and cost a good lot less. You could also look into a Xonar as well. Anything else would probably be outside of your budget.

Give decent speakers a listen, then we'll talk. :)

It's like saying you can't imagine spending €20 on a piece of meat when you've been eating pigeon crap.

On that point I was at a friends house last weekend I he had the Z906s and have to say they are impressive alright. Watched the crane chase scene from Terminator 3 (you know the one) a couple of times to give them a good work out :D

My 5yr old Lidl speakers do feel a bit like pigeon crap now :(

Would something like this do the job? There seems to be a lot of choices out there and it's hard to know which suits my needs the best.

Putting budget aside what would you go for on a 2.1 setup used mainly for gaming and music?

    Cheers.

Well AFAIK, those speakers only have analogue out, right? (3.5mm jack)

So something like the DX would be fine, probably.

    Or maybe this.

I am fundamentally opposed to spending more than €20 on a product made by Creative.

I read this review of the Corsair speakers, they seem all right. Still way more than I'd be willing to spend on a non-audio-centric company's products though.
