they can yea. I actually have taken them both out already :P my SSD is in a ghetto velcro strap and my HDD is velcrod and braced in my 5.25" bay.

I just think going for a 360 (albeit skinny) is the best idea financially and future proof? what you think?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

A thick 240 and a 200 would probably be better, but it depends on how noisy you can stand your computer being.

A 360 will cool stuff, but be noisy. You'll need at least 1500RPM fans, maybe faster.
a 240 will cool your CPU fairly well on its own. Probably 1000RPM or less.
a 200 will do your CPU passively. It would probably do your GPU as well, and be less noisy.

You have to remember that the thing 360 is going to be pulling warm air from the case, the 200 is going to be pulling cold air from the outside, and that'll make a big difference. Getting the 200 also means you have room in the roof for expansion if you need it, though you could get the 240 and go the other way too.

Now, there's nothing stopping you from going with a 360 and a 200 as well, but a 240 will be cleaner, easier to install, and probably cost about the same, so why go to the trouble of hacking such a lovely case to bits?

I cant thank you enough for this. I honestly don't know much about WC.

by my measurements, I can get a 30mm thick rad in the top.

OK so how much would it cost for a loop with that 200mm rad and a pump that'll see me through a GPU later?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,979 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

apparently an RS240 rad at 35mm fits. still though, I'm gonna go for the 200mm rad. will the pump you specd already do a GPU and CPU?

Is that 30mm for a 360 rad with fans / without fans / 240 rad?

    Item|Price
XSPC Laing DDC 200ml Reservoir Pump Top : Plexi|£22.00
    Laing DDC-1+ Ultra Pump 600 L/hr 18W (MCP355) : DDC-1+ T|£59.95
    6 x 1/4" Thread High Flow Barb Fitting for 1/2" (13mm) ID Tubing : Black|£9.58
6 x Zinc Plated Worm Drive Hose Clip for 3/4" (19mm) Outer Diameter Tubing : Jubilee|£2.95
    Thermochill 1/2" ID - 3/4" OD (13-19mm) Flex Tubing : Clear|£2.99
EK Supreme HF Easy Mount Universal CPU Waterblock : Copper Acetal|£51.49
    Phobya Xtreme 200mm Radiator|£53.99
Pulse Modding 99.9% Silver Kill Coil|£4.00
    Shipping|£ 0.00
    Total|£ 206.89

That should be everything you need for a CPU-only loop (not including the top rad, if you decide to add one) with a pump that'll handle pretty much any amount of blocks for the future.

the fans are mounted outside the case (under a shroud). the 35mm is for the rad only if you get me?

I'm going to go over my budget to see if I can pay rent and get this at the same time without going bankrupt :o

    thanks for all the help.

this has become quite a bit more expensive than the h100 lol.

I know right. my PC won't even be any quieter :o

how much does specialtech charge for delivery?

Yeah, just had a quick look online there, and I see what you mean.

I'm really interested to see how this turns out, because I've always loved the 600T. I think it's by far the best case Corsair has ever come out with. If I could stuff enough rad in one to cool a 2500K and 780 with sub ~800RPM fans, I'd be happy as a pig in poop.

You'll want to double-check the numbers of stuff and the like. Not sure if the correct number of fittings is there, but that'll add only an extra €5 at most.

Edit: £15 to Ireland, I believe. To ROI, courier is the only option.

dude, all that water sorcery is the reason you dont have money for new build! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

LOL, could well be. I think come the end of this year, I'm going to scrap my current build, and shoot for a small, internal, as quiet and passive as possible, very clean looking build (with a lot of inspiration taken from this!).

I'm just really liking the idea of a black 600T, black sleeved tubing, silver fittings, black board, black card, black block, passive PSU.... Damn it! No! Must not spend more money! Must save for house!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,979 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

I've worked on quite a few cases, and I still love mine the most. the build quality is second to none, the door hinges, everything. the price is damn competitive too. my only regret is the size. if they made it full tower to the 800D size I'd buy it.

and yea, it looks great with everything black. that's the main reason I got the asrock z68 gen3.
I want to swap Psu out though. its a really great psu but the capacitors on the cable make it impossible to sleeve.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,911 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

i dont really care how it looks inside. as long as it looks neutral and good from outside, keeps it cool, not too loud, then its good for me.

its not like you put your case on table and enjoy the view for 2h of your inside :D

i havent even sorted properly all cable managment, spare psu cales still inside the case, not hidden in the back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,979 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

it's workmanship. And its a CV for your ability ;)

I'm always tinkering with something. most of the time my side panel isn't even on. lately I've been playing around with fan arrangements and I've dropped my CPU temps by 8C for free, which is nothing to be sniffed at when I'm trying to push a 5.0Ghz OC on air.

Interesting article on RMA rates of different brands:

    http://www.behardware.com/articles/843-6/components-returns-rates-5.html

    - 3.65% Western Digital Caviar Blue (WD10EALS)
Oooer... I have one of those.

... And that's the end of that drive. :-/ Only lasted a year but it was actually a drive that I got from the them after sending back another.
I've had good luck with all the WD drives I've had in the past. I'm not overly upset about it as anything important was backed up but it still proves that the lower warranties isn't really enough - i.e., 1 year for Seagate and 2 years for WD and Samsung (as far as I know but they'll soon be under the scope of Seagate).

Guys, as a potential, after-or-during-Summer upgrade, what do ye lot think of this?

    Item|Price
Corsair Graphite 600T, ATX, ohne Netzteil|€137.74
    Super-Flower SF500P14FG 80plus Platinum fanless|€130.79
    ASRock Z77 Extreme4, Sockel 1155, ATX|€123.41
    Intel Core i5-2500K Box, LGA1155|€188.78
    8GB-Kit Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 MHz CL9|€41.93
    EVGA GeForce GTX 780, 2048MB DDR5, PCI-Express|€695.19
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€1336.83

I'm really liking the idea of running everything cleanly in an internal loop, so I'd be going for an RS240 in the roof of the 600T, with a 200mm rad in the front as well.

    Thoughts?

I just stuck it there as a placeholder. The link is for a 680. Sorry for the confusion. :P

No one has any alternate suggestions? I figured one everything suggesting parts.

Not really, you hit the nail on the head IMO. PSU is sweet!

The thing is its hard to **** up these high end builds. Not much other options :). So as long as its gen 3 2500k and 680/7970 it will work as a charm.

Just a tip: try to get normal ram this time, not overpriced as **** ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Thanks for the tip! The only reason I have Vengeance there is that this time I'm going for an aesthetically pleasing build as well; not just a mish-mash, but at €40 or whatever, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than the €150 I spent on the 6GB of Dominator ****e in my current machine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,979 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

wait. I got that 780 thing. knew it was a place holder like. but I didn't see you changed the price too... you added €200 when you could just as easily add €200.17

my 2cents.. its a little off putting that the z77 extreme4 is so cheap. I know you're going to want to push serious OC, so it might be worth your while going for the extreme6. likewise, I don't see anything less than a z68 extreme4 getting 5Ghz.

I haven't looked into Z77 boards very thoroughly yet, but I take your point. Will try and figure out what overclocks people are getting and go from there.

As for the total, well I wasn't really paying too much attention. I just remember seeing early pricing info that the GTX 780 would be around $750.

... or maybe that was the 690, and the 780 was the $1,000 unit... Balls...

Any progress with the WC stuff Tea?

was there ever a replacement for the LG W2363D after it was discontinued?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

I believe LG shifted focus to 60 Hz passive 3D.

On the other hand, there's speculation that the LG panels in the Catleaps are prototypes for forthcoming 120 Hz IPS panels, so keep an eye out for that.
