You know how they go, we get the pitchforks out cause there all on €80k plus goodbye money plus huge pension.
Then some 2nd year clerical officer comes on telling us he's on €22k & has to eat his children.
We back off for a bit then some tulip gets banned.

Someone start us off there, I've to go drinking in an hour.

So basically you are putting the whole public sector bashing in a jokey way. With hopes a full blown bashing fest happens, right?

... looks like you're getting your way too

Man, there are some moans on here. Ever notice the way its always about "someone else" - like a person who has a job moaning about people on the dole - or vice versa - or unmarried mothers getting their allowance etc.

And the place is full of experts on every subject under the sun with instant solutions for the most complex of problems which the idiots in charge don't have a clue about.

Ive said it before I will say it again all public sector works are ...... wait I got banned the last time I called them all scum so better not do that again.

Don't be a hypocrite and make sure you call every public sector worker you come in contact with scum.

Never seen the forum as quiet, thought we'd have hit 10 pages by now, oh it's all the public service workers with they day off so they're not foruming.

Its the only reason i'm on during the day. We can't access boards or any other social media at work.

Us hard working souls are given good Friday off. And its needed to recover from such hard graft.

How is the tax base smaller if the population of the country increased by a million since 1991 and 500,000 since 2006 alone? And the number of people at work went up from 1.2 million to 2.1 million reduced now to possibly 1.8 million. What are the wrong jobs and the right jobs and workers you are talking about? And you must know that costs have been reduced and are continuing to be reduced with an expected €3.5 billion less for wages and 20% less PS workers by 2015 compared to 2008?
Are you serious? If 2.1 million at work is being reduced to 1.8. Then that's a smaller tax base. If you exclude PS workers, 300,000? the base is lower still. We're not talking about 'since 1991' but since 2007.

As for the the right jobs and the wrong jobs. Do you need me to draw a picture? Shortages of frontline and hands on workers yet overstaffing in other sectors particularly in parts of the civil service. Off the top of my head I can think of two people I know who are woefully under employed and overpaid in their jobs. I'm sure there are plenty of others.

As for the expected €3.5 billion reduction and less workers. You can only save so much by natural wastage and early retirement and even then that's to the detriment of services provided. Are you the last person in the country who actually believes the Croke park agreement is going to produce the neccessary savings?

The fact is that targetted pay and job cuts are needed and will come. Anyone who thinks otherwise is living in denial.

Plus what's with the hypersensitivity, I wasn't even bashing the PS. Just pointing out the reality?

or unmarried mothers getting their allowance etc.

Because it's really pleasing to get up at 6am, drive to work watching the petrol needle the whole way there, work in hell, eat your scraped together sambo with soggy bread because you're too skint to head out to the shops and then drive home once again staring at the needle hoping you have enough fuel to get there all the time being screwed by the tax man only to then log on to Book Face and see 5 grouped single mothers chatting about what new tops they just bought whilst co habiting with their partners in accomodation being paid for by the state.......

Hey group, my name is 'Melody Raspy Scalp'.

I'm a public sector worker employee, a lazy bastard, rich and a scumbag.

/Phew that was easy, they say admitting it to yourself is the start of a cure!.

Tell us more about your bonuses & pensions, might kick start the thread:D

You're entitled to it though, processing 3 applications a day is tough going, did you manage to get any expenses on top of it?:p

No bonuses I'm afraid, but I do get a decent pension and for those of us who are killed in action or die in service the widow's and orphans pension plans pay out handsomely.

Oh, I do have free medical (including dental) care - but that's to ensure I stay in good physical condition to serve my state.. God forbid I step on a landmine when I have high blood pressure, imagine what that would do to me!.

Yes but there has to be more perks. Did your department relocate 15 years ago and you all still get a relocation & lunch allowance, or something?;)

I think you are refering to that Medical Card thread. I don't do that type of work thankfully.

Public sector services should be outsourced to the private sector!

You're an example of blind hatered. You have absolutley no clue what you're mad about. It's like you've read snippets from different papers and have decided you now know everything you need to.

Even better than that - we get €75k for six months away, and for each tour away we get €5k per year added to our pension, not bad eh ;)

Public sector services should be outsourced to the private sector!

    Because that always ends well.

How's about we semi-privatise our health service, and outsource the cleaning to a company?

I can see no problems arising from this scenario.
