Is it worth getting a blu-ray player? My dvd player is a bit dodgy, is €50 a good price for a blu-ray player and do they make a difference in the quality?

assuming you have a HDTV and plan on buying or renting blu-rays then yes, i'd say so as it will still play all your DVD's and will likely do a better job of it than your old DVD player.

I got a HDMI xbox 360 in the last one I went to for €99, with a post-Jasper chipset (i.e. less likely to overheat and cause the RROD - http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081201130404AASO96k).

Anyone looking for a cheap console should definitely go along, even if it's not in that list above. There'll be a big pile of XB and PS3 consoles and you'll likely not find them cheaper anywhere. I also got some fairly recent games for quite cheap - Ghostbusters and Bioshock 2 for less than a tenner for both as I recall.

Anyone know if they'll take Credit and Laser cards at this?

They did for me. They'll have a few tills set up, just like paying for something at a regular Xtravision.

It's a big room with loads of people wandering around. It's open all weekend so it won't always be wedged. That said the stuff is mostly set up in big piles. First there will get the best picks. I went on the Sunday previously and there were dozens of PS3s and XBoxes left, hundreds of games as well.

The Green Isle Hotel is located approx 1km on the Naas side of Newlands Cross.
Driving along the Naas Rd towards Dublin after junction 2 you will pass the Green Isle on your left just before you reach Newlands Cross. After the hotel take the first left turn and immediately left again. The entrance is on your left at approx 500m.

Driving out of Dublin simple way is to go through Newlands Cross, pass Green Isle on your right, take next exit at junction 2, take 3rd exit off roundabout, cross over Naas Rd, take 3rd exit off roundabout, follow road and hotel is on your right at approx 500m.

Xbox from €149 refurbs, new €199,
    PS3 €149 for 60gb refurb

I there more or less when it was opened, all the 40" TVs were gone when i left, I was going to get the last one but didn't, 32" was the biggest remaining size in known brands, there may have been some of 40" hanspree units, there was 32" Sony and Samsung units at 270 euro left.
I didn't see anything interesting on the games side, lots of copies of batman as stated above.

Lots of DVD and BR players left too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,260 ✭✭✭donnacha

any idea of the makes/models of blu ray players?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,952 ✭✭✭✭Stoner

not models sorry, but they were good makes but not packed with features like dnla or netflix ready. I didn't see any network ready samsung or sony units, I think nearly all the current generation of blu ray players have these extra features, but they were nice players

plenty of Sony and samsung. There were some network ready LG units there too, i dont remember many prices but something like 60 Euro for a Sony

Looking for a panasonic - but I think they only started selling them recently so unlikely to be in clearance. thats a good price for a S370.

    Price list for TVs

    Are those TVs still available?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,699 ✭✭✭samhail

myself and my girlfriend picked up 2 32" Sony tv's, by the time we came back around they were all gone and they were bring out fresh stock.

Couldn't see any sony tvs bigger than 32in (unfortunately) but did see alot of some 42in tv that wasn't listed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,282 ✭✭✭BlackWizard

    Are those TVs still available?

There were a lot of TVs still there at about 12pm. But I don't know now. Not many 40+ inch ones down there. Lots of the rest.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,056 ✭✭✭✭BostonB

I was over about 2pm, some TVs left, but I'm really looking for one with a proper Saorview EPG and DVR and none had that. By the time I left most of the TV's had gone. I couldn't see any games or DVD's I would be interested in. I picked up a couple of blueray players, but one is missing a remote. I'll have to return to get a remote, or a refund. They looked like ex demo, or refurbs not new. As such you couldn't be sure what you're getting in the box. So check before you leave.

I wonder wil they have more stock, they bring in during the day, or tomorrow. As a lot of stuff was gone by the time I left.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,825 ✭✭✭Mikeyt086

Can anyone shed some light on the DVD or Blu-Ray offers? Not the players, but the actual movies. And also are there no decent games?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,528 ✭✭✭TomCo

Gah, picked up an 80gb PS3 only to realise afterwards that it wasn't backwards compatible. Box was also missing the games it was supposed to have, and to top it off I was over charged 50 quid (€200)!

Going back tomorrow to trade it for a 60gb refurb (and €50 quid).

No blu-ray movies, lots of ok-ish dvd's but you have to go rooting through boxes with loads of other people.

Loads and loads of copies of bayonetta and army of two 2, nothing else of note.

Did the ps3 include a controller?

    Edit: The boxed 80gb I got didn't :(
