Getting rid of the diving!

Lads, I really thought the dive by Perch yesterday was a disgrace.

Do any of you think he will be suspended for it? What should be done to stop this horrible art of play acting in soccer these day?

He wont be suspended for it, and Liverpool will not be appealing the decision. Unfortunately nobody seems to care about players who make themselves look like big girls blouses, and ANY contact seems to justify their actions. Sergio Busquets has made a living out of it. (That was a joke, before the La Liga purists eat me alive)

The real disgrace was Andy Carroll's dive, what made it worse was that he seemingly had an open goal to roll the ball into...

But I think the play acting is a lot worse than the diving. It makes footballers look like complete pussys!

Referees shouldn't be able to send a player off for a dive (in case he gets it wrong)
Players found to have dived after reviewing footage (after the game) should be a minimum 2 game ban

Suarez can also be bad, I'm not talking about diving, but if he gets touched, which he does alot, he makes the most of it. He also wildly gestures for handballs in every game.

But I still love him.

In relation to Andy Carroll, he actually falls like that quite alot, this time it was in the area in a high profile game for him.

What Perch done was horrible, but he had to make it known to the ref that he was touched. The rolling around like been clothes lined by the Big Show and then up straight away injury free thing grinds my gears.

players that are easily spotted diving/play acting ...should get a minimum 5 game ban and months wages fine !!

only way to hurt them is let them hurt on both financial and pitch.

Until there is the technology to be able to know with 100% certainty that a player intended to dive I don't think it's possible to legislate on this. Even with Carroll yesterday, Dalglish claimed that he slipped. Can you say with absolute certainty that he didn't.

Bale seems to be the worst culprit to me this season, and yet he claims he's not trying to get a favourable decision from the ref, but just to avoid serious injury from the incoming tackle. Can you blame him ? Should he be booked for wanting to keep both his legs in one piece ?

As much as I'd love a free dig at criticising a Newcastle player, I don't think Perch's can really be called ''a dive''. Reina struck his head into his face and by the letter of the law it's a sending off offense. If Perch doesn't go down then Reina probably gets away with it, so you're faced with players needed to go down for a player to get their deserved punishment. If players knew that referees would give the correct punishment and they didn't need to go down to emphaise the contact then I think that would cut most of it out.

As for actual diving, Carroll gave a perfect example of it yesterday and that should most definitely be cut out, but won't. It's the way the game has gone and won't be changed in the foreseeable future, unfortunately.

Yes I guess it is just as bad, but I would agree then that heavy bans should be dished out after the games are reviewed. I remember rivaldo's playacting against turkey in the 2002 world cup.

Haha he really does. Himself and Robbie Keane as a front pairing would give a ref a heart attack!

Half agree with you, Carroll got his punishment so there shouldn't be such a big deal around it, he made a fool out of himself, and I got a fantastic laugh out of it, but he was punished.

Yeah Perch did something stupid as well, but I don't think he deserves to be punished cause of the contact that was there. I'm not saying what he did was ok though.

I think Carroll thought he had a better chance of getting on the GB Olympic diving team, then the Olympic soccer team, hence his 10 out of 10 dive.

Nearly(if not all) clubs have players who dive. I'd love to see it got rid of from the game and hopefully at some stage it will happen but I won't hold my breath while I wait.

Looking at that Carroll gif it really looks like he misjudges the speed of the ball as he jumps to avoid Krul. I don't think he should have been booked.

This is why diving, simulation etc can't be wiped out.

Depending on the player involved people's reactions are massively different.

You're basically saying its ok when there's any contact, irregardless of how minimal it is, to throw yourself on the ground & roll around like a bitch?

Does anyone wanna tell me if it had of been Ballotelli, Suarez or someone of that ilk, the big story wouldn't have been the cringeworthy theatrics?

People either need to accept cheating/simulation/diving as being part of the game, or they need to be equally critical across the board when it happens.

As an Arsenal fan I always have a chuckle at **** all being made of the likes of Carroll and Bale (to name just two recent exhibitions) diving after Eduardo was publicly strung up on a cross by UEFA for diving against Celtic.

The authorities will take action when it suits them, like they do with almost everything else in football.

Anyone who needs medical attention has to be subbed. If they're out of subs then they play with 10 men. Anyone other than the captain speaks to the captain, yellow card. That would stamp quite a lot of it out.

What happens if someone clashes heads then needs medical attention?
